  • Fantastic! I have been struggling over Kate Rusby songs for a while, this clear instruction is most welcome.

  • Thank you! =] x

  • This is brilliant!!! So easy to follow :) Thanks!!!!

  • Just watched her live in Leeds DVD. Was dying to find out the tuning she seems to use over and over. This could not have been better or clearer. Awesome job! Thanks!

  • please please please can you do a video of you just playing it so I can use it as a backing track - I will send you me singing it if you like, Im desperate for the backing and you play it so, so beautifully! Just you running all the way through it would help me soooo much! THANK YOU :) xx

  • Awesome. Great work Stratnut! Gonna have to dig out me 12 string now.

  • Really stellar video. Well done.

  • Listening to you play that was magical. Stunningly beautiful, and such clear instruction! Thank you very much.

tutorial was the best i've ever seen, THANKS =]

  • Great .. :D

  • Thank you so much for this video/tutorial!!! You explain the tuning and playing so clearly...I love the song and never thought I would be able to play it, but now I can play along with Kate's video [singing is another thing!!!] But thanks again for the instrumental...it's beautiful in itself!!!

  • thank you so much my friend :O) its such a beautiful chord sequence!.. :O)

  • This is beautiful, even without the lyric...in this tuning, can all the strings be played [if you were playing another song with the same chords] or would it not work with all strings sounded??

  • Fantastic work Stratnut!

Now if you can just work out the guitar part for Sir Eglamore...

  • Great teaching. Now playing this while my daughter sings. Fantastic, thank you.

  • Execellent job! You are a certified guitar player. Hope you post more clips. By the way I noticed Justin Sandercoe subscribes to your channel which is quite the endorsement.

I f you are looking to cover lessons no-one has on you tube Come and go blues by G. Allman (open G version) would be killer or Stills live version of Tree Top Flyer.

    Absolutely phenomenal playing on Sultans.

    :)

  • Excellent!!

You are so easy to listen to and a very good player.

Love the Mark Knopfler stuff too!

  • Thank you. Great teaching.

  • Amazing, you have made my day!!! Please please post any more Kate you know. Thank you

  • Excellent!! Thanks for this!!

  • Great tutorial and introduction to non-standard tunings. great vid, keep on picking!

    Michael

  • Thank you !

  • nailed it

  • Nice bit of teaching. Well done sir!

  • Fantastic. Thanks for that.

  • thanks for the great lesson..... perfect

  • Mate, this is brilliant. I'd got used to playing a simplified version with standard tuning (I'd not considered using another) but it sound far more like the original in DADGBD. Cheers!

  • You're a fabulous teacher! Awesome!

  • This is really great and now I can play it. Please post more teaching videos!

  • thankyou! :D this was great help!

  • Thankyou! I've been practising all afternoon and now have blistered fingers ;)

  • Thanks. Not used to dadgad and this was very easy to follow. I'm off to practise.

  • very nice , have you done a how to of you belong to me

  • Nice Job, very helpful and easy to understand.

    Thanks from a "Yank".

  • This is a terrific help. I loved this song from the very first listen. Although I reckon Kate Rusby used a cool open tuning, your double D explanation is clear as a bell. Thanks and best wishes in your playing!

  • That was a really great lesson, well done mate.

  • Well done mate its a great video very informative. I'm trying to learn Old Man Time, its got a similar chord sequence and its in C.

  • MORE OF THE SAME PLEASE

  • You tutorial is just wonderful. I've loved playing the song and exploring the DADGD tuning. What an incredible help. I certainly hope you'll be able to do more like this. Thanks!

  • Great stuff, especially the tuning info. Thanks. I would request Who Will Sing Me Lullabies by Kate Rusby, if I was bold.

  • that was superb - thankyou very much. More please! Over the Hill maybe etc. For once you have pinned me down to learn something rather than just doing my usual exptemporisation.

  • Thank you so much for this gift! Brilliant work! I only recently discovered Kate Rusby. I hope she comes to California someday! I'll go and throw roses at her feet!

  • Great lesson. Very clear instructions and a great sounding song to introduce people to alternate tunings! When's the next video?

  • First class demo - much more of this please

  • OK so we need some more KR stuff. How about Dire Straits 'Romeo & Juliet'?

  • Absoloutly stunning. You should do much more of this sort of thing - set up your own website, I would happily pay for this sort of tuition.

  • Thanks very much - that's praise indeed! I love to share guitar knowledge where it's taken me a bit of a struggle to suss it out. I like to try and work out songs with non-standard tunings because you have to try and work out what tuning it was done in (which can be quite challenging!) before working out the song.

  • Very clear and helpful - and a great song to have chosen. Thanks

  • I am inspired to learn guitar!

I love Kate's music and was bought up on irish tunes... Thanks for sharing your time, to teach.

  • please do "fare thee well" by her, thanks.

  • Thank you so much - I hope you are able to do some other Kate Rusby songs!

  • Thanks so much. A beautiful tune very well taught.

  • Great Thanks , more kate rusby if you can, I tried learning from the video , didn't work so I'm very grateful , sounds more like the real thing now!!

  • Thank you for the instructional. Very helpful. Will you do more Kate Rusby's songs?

  • Since I love both playing the acoustic guitar in alternate tunings and Kate Rusby, you would have thought that I would have noticed this before. Very well talked through. Thanks.

  • Superb! I'm trying to learn guitar again. One of my favourite songs, very well explained.

  • This is great thanks!!!! Any interest in doing "who will sing me lullabies" next??

  • I know nothing at all about music but I still found this interesting. I had no idea so much was involved - I just love the song and will appreciate it even more with my unmusical ear whenever I hear it in future. Well done you!

  • Sir, simple and well explained, fantastic!

    Many thanks

  • Actually your tuning is better. I just tried it!

  • Nicely played. I play this in DADGBC capo4. I think the trick is in the ringing open strings (an old Ralph McTell trick!).

  • Thanks for this! It's a brilliant tutorial. and thanks for explaining the variation too. It's much easier to follow than any of the tabs i've found x

  • Thank you for this excellent tutorial. Very much appreciated.

  • Nice work. Thanks!

  • Excellent, thank you so much for this!

  • really really good. I have been trying to find a tab for this for ages, and couldn't really helped me out.

    Thanks

  • Other than justin Sandercoe's stuff, this is the best guitar instruction on here, really well done, you should have taken a bow.

  • thanx, I've been dying to learn this song!

  • What a great song and a brilliant explanation of how to do it

    Thanks
