  • Fuck me!! the Clag coming out of the class 52 !! better send it to Zontar for a spot O Radweld Treatment LOL

  • Diesel loco fans 1, Environmentalists 0 lol

  • thumbs up if this gives environmentalists a well deserved boot in the balls!

  • ooooo smoke i think im gona cum! lol

  • Poor british crap.

  • that sound is immense! why do i like it so much!

  • lol it thinks its a steam engine lawl!

  • That`s what I call Clagtastic! Love it! More Clag!

  • sultan was parked at truro for days when i was a boy on holiday.

  • 0:26 to 1:02 now that`s what I call torque. Incredible. Never seen a train get up to speed that fast.

  • cleaner than steam :)

  • Very badly maintained or worn out engines here, clogged injectors etc. All the black soot and smoke is just unburnt fuel.

  • @Draxindustries1 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @shoptothecaf You either have no interest in diesels or your knowledge is very limited.

Either way, you obviously have no care for environmental impact. Seeing something like this only hammers home why these things were scrapped. Its either a very badly worn/badly maintained unit but its definetly being over fuelled most probably caused by worn pump/injectors as is obvious by the huge amount of unburnt fuel being exhausted.

You may it boring but far more impressive would be a clean burn..

  • @Draxindustries1 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • would it be accurate to say that the harder the pull the cleaner the burn??? love this stuff.

  • Oh god! thats a pollution nightmere

  • @Blocklandbrian498 Good init!

  • oh you stinky bitch,

  • Hellfire! Sod the Environmentalists! More clag :)

  • I've seen many trains in my life, but i've never seen a diesel train that was not diesel/electric... Diesel Engines powering electric wheel motors... I live in the US, is that the reason? Did we ever have non-diesel/electric? other than steam?

  • The Western Sultan clip is simply perfect.

  • Superb stuff, really enjoy your DVDs

  • Woohoo! ***Clagariffic!***

  • my wifes got claggs around her ringpiece.

  • The acceleration is unbelievable. the wheels on the loco at 1:38 seem to be huge...like 3 feet in diameter!

  • The first one sounds like a F4U corsair or a bomber starting up and idling

  • HOPE IT RUNS OVER A TOYOTA PRIUS on level crossing.

  • I think it's unlikely, as the Toyota Prius will be accelerating suddenly out of the way.

    :-)

  • Great locos. Sounds just like good sport car.

    P.S. Greenpeace shit bricks.

  • 37,s rule

  • Wow! I just loved Western Sultan's contribution to the ozone layer at 1:37, THAT'S the way to accelerate . . .

  • HUffffffff!

    My lords!!!!!!!!!!

  • I FOOKING LOVE CLAGG!

  • Superb video!! What a machine!!! Listen to that monster diese roar!!

If I were a passenger on that train, I would have my head out the window listening to the diesel chug, smelling the diesel, and watching the smoke blow the whole time!!!

    Amazing vid!

  • you would have been as black coal had you been hanging out the window, the napier deltic engines expelled a lot of oil droplets in a very fine mist especially when the engines were under pressure.

  • Even better!...not kidding.

  • And to think they called Steam Engines too dirty !

.. you gotta love the noises too.

    nice footage

  • that lsat loco did a superb alco impression

  • Wow, what a unique sound these things have. Unfortunately, I am limited to lestening to them on my computer. There aren't any of these in the USA, or at least none I am aware of.

  • Clagging = making lots of pollution?

    Why so much smoke?

Why do the semaphores not operate?

  • theirs so much smoke cus all of those engines are very old and not modern enough, and back in the 60's and 70's when these were made, people were not as aware of the damage the smoke was causing

  • I've worked on Diesels many years.

These seem to be emitting EXCESSIVE smoke.

Surely that is not normal for them.

How can their combustion be that bad?

  • hmm not sure. thinking about it, i at was bristol temple meads the other day and had a good hours wait for my train home and was at platform 13 one of the hst platforms, and even coming out of the supposed "environmentally friendly" MTU engine, their was thick black smoke coming from it on idle.

  • oops just noticed ur from the US so u might not understand a singal english train term that i posted oops soz.

  • @robertgift

    no smoke no poke! lol

  • its not exsessive in the world of BRITISH BRUTE FORCE AND EGINEERING

  • Clagging comes from the aviation world, it means thick cloud.

  • what is Clagging? this video does not explain it

  • i beleive that clagging is when the engines are burning too much oil. but dont quote me on that..

  • notice at the beginning the engine lists whenever it clags.

  • i wish they had those here in the USA

  • Yer but what a way to go!

  • maybe, but they are still magnificent

  • but still everythings going to die cause of that

  • The sight , the sound , the smell of diesel ... awesome

  • thats one I'm going to have to buy!

  • HAD NO IDEA THOSE TYPE WAS STILL IN USE?

  • dont tell al gore!!!!!!!

  • I recall seeing in an autobiographical work by RAF Air Vice-Marshal Sandy Johnstone the term 'clag' which in this case was extremely thick fog. The Scots have their own way of speaking HM English, God bless 'em! Too much smoke is bad PR for enthusiast organisations and operating museums. It indicates lack of maintenance and unhealthy operating practices. Two-stroke cycle plants are expecially prone to dirty exhaust, if not worked hard, and frequently. Doing so is npt always practicable.

  • the engine at 0.29, is that clagging? sounds a bit too smooth

  • That's a class 55 deltic. they had twin two stroke opposed piston engines. clag was par for the course with these, they did it even in good condition

  • What exactly is clag? Just curious as i can remember clag from the old HSTs

  • Unburnt fuel or oil.

  • pkrieter to answer your question yes clagging means smoke i think, and the engine your refering to is the deltic, it was basically the highspeed train of its day untill the Hst's came out, reason its got a high RPM is because its got 2 engines.

lovely engine to drive i might add.

  • No, it sounds like high RPM, because it's a 2 stroke (makes power twice as often)

  • That second one had a very high RPM. Are they small engines? Also does clagging mean smoking? I've never heard that term before. ( I'm american)

    Nice video by the way.

  • When the "deltic" loco was introduced, it was by far the most powerfull diesel loco in the world, at 3,300hp. it has 2x18 cylinder 2 stroke engines.

Check out the YT video called "deltic locomotive diesel engine moving parts"

to see a really cool animation

  • Deltic sounds ace!!!

  • thats what i like to see, lots of thick smoke, more so with that western :D

  • I love the Rat on the corrugated track 8-p

  • !!!!!

Those trains are looks like steams!!!

  • 1.30 - 1.44

  • Great clip of the 'thousand'

  • They sound like Alco's.

  • Nice claggings and engines...

  • Whats clagging?

  • I think it's a railway enthusiast term meaning that the exhaust billows out lots of smoke on startup/under application of power.

    What's this loco's number?

  • Similar to: - Spluttering,

     - Blistering, - motor choking...

... and lots of other sound and view effects of diesel engines...

  • CLAG!!!!!!!!=P 5 * Fave!!

    Danny

  • Dont let environment lovers see this! 5* + fave

  • well i would hope we all loved our environment......its what keeps us alive.

  • ha.. well lets see the american talking this is nothing compared to a lot more harmful stuff

  • i'd rather run these beasts and die in 20 years than leave them to rust and live for another 80

  • Cool Clagg

  • Wel thats a deisel for you

  • Heres a vid ive put up of some CLAG at ELR!

  • Clagtastic!

  • I don't think the white smoke is a good sign...

  • White smoke is a good sign. Black smoke isn't. When the smoke is white, most of the fuel is evaporated.

  • no black smoke is good fuel overloaded white= loss of power

  • 1:46 Stop Look Listen small print says but for god's sake don't breath in lol

  • Carry on Clagging 3 will be released on 13 September 2008.

  • As a non spotter but a lover of all trains whats this term "clagging" can any one explain to me ...??

  • It's a term used for all the muck coming out the roof.

  • @Bevoin1970 All the diesel smoke i guess. The Alco locomotives that still run here in the U.S. do the same thing.

  • Love the sound of the Class 37 starting up. It reminds me of an ALCO 244.

  • The Deltic and the Western looked like they had crack stuffed in their engines as they were very smokey!

  • Sulzers are class 25,33 i think 37?

  • 37 is an EE, but 25s and 33s are Sulzers, along with the 47 & peaks.

  • and 26/27s

  • That Whizzo is the best thing in the world ever!.

  • Sweet - I'm coming over to the UK in July..any of you boys recommend a good days vintage diesel or steam watching??..cheers all

  • lol jesus wept......and so did i...

  • the deltic sounded like a cross between a EMD and a Kenworth.

    AWESOME!

  • Do these locos have Sulzer diesels?

  • Is the 1st 1 a 37 at the Glous. Warks. Rly?

Loved the shots of the Western and 33!

  • classic deltidc sounds brilliant 5 star

  • I'll fly in from America to see this in person.

Damn the inflationary US currency for making travel so difficult.

  • I just cant stop watching this video. I have watched it about 20 times now. I love that sound of start up !

  • It sends shivers down my spine!

  • Totally cool. Sounds a lot like my Harley when it starts up.

  • Awesome!! :)

  • even though i live in the us. those brit trains sound good.

  • I LOVE those 37s!!! They make the best noise!

  • Fantastic!!! I'm off to buy the DVD!

  • driven it in 1973 i love all those deltics. forget the sand jaust ind open the controler (wakefield station is the worst for wheel spin )

  • thats awesome, one of the only things i didnt like about this one is the horn, I think they should use some k5la's!!!

  • Awesome big diesel locomotives!!!!!!!

  • that 55 sounded beautiful!! it looked like one engine was worse than the other for the clag!

  • lovely bit of 33 thrash, hurrah for the crompton footprint

  • Nice, I love diesellocomotieves, This are nice British Locomotieves. The Dutch 2200 series are to very cool!

  • holy shit! those diesel's look like they have a part of a steam train in it (the smoke)

  • hellfire!!

  • Wow that 37 was a fucking beast, she must have thought she was an A4 Pacific!

  • guilwarss, your loco's are cleaner than ours for only one reason, you have better diesel than in the u.k, your diesel is better refined than our crap. :-)

  • Amazing stuff, and F Off the politically correct with their carbon footprint bollox, and politically incorrect cars. Living in boxes? Erm, I think so...

This is preservation at its best, and no harm done by a bit of clag. Ironic though, that the smoke emission is at least that of a Black 5 en route from Rochdale to Auntie Manureiels (she lived by a farm) in Bolton!

ELR do a fine job for enthusiasts, pity the line doesn't rebuild the severed Rochdale and Bolton links.

  • Well that Class 52 @ 1.35 is powered by a pair of German Maybach MD 655's... But in the main these are loco's on preserved lines which are life expired and kept running by dedicated enthusiasts. Some of the class 37's (the first one) are still in service and much cleaner, and the one @2.22 is an Italian Sulzer..

  • Having travelled behind over three hundred Br 232's, I can personally attest to the fact that some ARE as dirty as that, and that was indeed the lure :-)

  • 1:42 i thought smoking was banned at stations

  • Growler with the shits !

  • I am an American who grew up in Britain. British diesel-electric locomotives are the BEST!

  • The Class 55 and 52 have gotta be mt favourites

  • Oh well excuse us for being British then, all those that think english locomotives are crap.

And whose country is it that is one of the top 3 polluters and are doing bugger all about it?

    USA-thought so!

So stop with the making good old english loco's look rubbish and stick with your bleeding other rubbish.

    Finally, good video 5/5!

  • Holy smoke!!

  • no clag lol

  • 5/5

  • best of the brittish!

  • Those EE Class 37's sound absolutely amazing! Now, that is what i call British engineering at its finest!

  • Not shit, my inbred friend, but locomotives with character. BRITISH built not your GM/GE/EMD crap. Character - a word you'll sadly never understand. Boooooooooooooooo.

  • that thing is a total peice of shit. and im german you retard. nothing compares to german engineering. that thing is a total piece of shit

  • ooooh! Get you with your attitude! I'm literally shitting my pants. All hail german engineering (I've just got rid of an Audi A4 - it was fucking shit - German engineering, my arse!!)

  • Well MTUs are heaps of shite so unless you can replace a paxman valentas scream to redeem yourself I'm not conviced!

  • That smoke is killing our kids!

Excellent! keep up the good work!

  • and in the future our children will look back at what wiped out the human race (an over-enthusiastic driver that had been told he's loco clagged)

    lol

  • I bloody hate kids anyway, har!

  • thought this was well good,I must get the video

  • you cant beat that!

  • Pure hellfire! Can't wait to get hold a copy sometime soon. Cheers visionsinternational.
