I can't buy anything at present, but I did plenty of looking for the 945GM chipset and MXM II cards, I can upgrade from the PDF manual specs for the 4710 model Acer according to that, T7600 top Core2 Duo, and 4GB max for XP or 32bit, I've heard, I run 3GB to avoid BSOD
My friend had a DV series HP with the remote, I don't recall the model, but I'm surprised any thing can detect it on the Acer hardware, BUT, my 4710 looks highly similar, wondering about the palmrest, I use the left side MOUSE touchpad button a lot and now it's indented and barely working these days, I feel I'll have to remove the palmrest to see what's what or replace it. I replaced the VGA video LCD cable and that works from the White Screen of Death problem it had, and a new keyboard needed
basically you changed the laptop completely.... I have the same laptop an haven't changed a thing apart from Upgrading from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate
hehe...i have the same remote for my 5920g and it really works perfect as u say...i got it for the same situation, a friend didn't want it :-D....i hope i can modify some things too
where did you get the synaptics driver for the touch-pad and the luxe-pad you are currently using?
because i currently have the driver for the touch-pad which supports multi-touch etc but it doesn't support my luxepad (play, pause etc) in any kind of way and i would really like to have that.
Saw the link to this video on the acer guy (I've been speaking to you as dreadlock_alex) but didn't realise your modding was this extensive; I absolutely LOVE everything you've done in this vid, especially with the touchpad and HP remote! Was the remote hard to configure, or was the mod mainly to make it look like it was an acer remote?
All I did was put the acer sticker on the remote :P, the main buttons that worked in the video did not require any modding as they use standard IR signals. Other signals might require some HP software to work.
I have a 5920g, and it has been a great laptop. Got it back in 2007, and used it mainly for gaming. Nice 8600m gt w/ 256mb vram. Only problem I had with it was vista and the Mobo crapped out on me a few months ago. Expensive mobo as well, 275 bucks. Could have upgraded my graphics card for that much.
I love the idea of the hard drive caddy you got going there. The 5920g I have only comes with 160 gigs, and its not enough. Love the touchpad mods 2.

@stoufzilla The remote was not really modded, only the HP logo was covered up by the sticker from another old acer laptop.
