nice work mike, all your videos are very informative and you have great sense of humor. what do you think of those new school all purpose ropes that can be single, half and twin, such as the beal joker? worth buying?
You point out that a rope's dry treatment is basically a waste of money for top rope and sport climbing but what about for multi-pitch routes? Isn't there the possibility of getting caught in the rain while your halfway up a particular climb?
@Kylesfd If your rock climbing the dry treatment isn't going to last anyhow. Anything is possible but I wouldn't lose any sleep over that scenario. You'll manage, it would have to be a hell of a rainstorm to get your rope soaked and then you most likely have bigger issues to deal with.
@Kylesfd for those few that top rope multi pitch.. the average kid heading out to buy a single line for top roping isnt gonna need much more then a standard 60m.. now depending on your location and type of rock you could be in a dry 50m .
Mike! I think you are calling me a fat pig and telling me to reduce calories when I think about dinner! Just kidding. Great Vid! I have some old rope from when I used to live in Canada thirteen years ago. Think I should retire them now?
@perrasles You moved to the USA from canada!! I suggest finding a sunny window to store that rope in, close to bleach or car batteries. You should now get another 20 years use out of that old rope. If you don't follow that sage advice then cut it up for haltershanks.
@jimwalt0r your right! I didn't notice the flaw till after I had pretty much cut the whole thing. This video would have been out weeks ago if a 3.5 year old did not have access to my computer. In the end I figured folks would figure it out. to much to reshoot the the whole green screen sceen for what I am getting paid. your right I will make a couple notes pointing out the flaw. I'm sure no climbers will get injured cause of it.
Awesome! Been waiting for this one for a while. One thing to add might be the difference between a static rope and a dynamic rope. Also, how do you know when to retire your rope? I have a single that's got a pretty beat up sheath (core isn't exposed), but the core feels fine. Had it about 1.5 yrs. What do you think?
@fearthespeed I can see ropes part 3 in the making. I can't really answer your question. Far to many variables to consider. However you seem to have the one thing they can't teach in school, common sense.
So there are two circles joining each other (symbol) for twin ropes Mike. Not an infinity symbol. Also this video is all over the place.
