George Lazenby may not be the best Bond of the series, but these opening titles ARE the best of all. Cool imagery of Britannia with trident, imperial crowns, and the Union Jack. Great use of clips from earlier films, showing the best of the previous Bond films. Then couple these elements with a terrific, driving instrumental theme, and you've got a real winner!
Don't see why this was so hated, its a good film, nowt wrong with George, he at least could do all the moves off his own back, and this is easily the best theme of them all
I think people got so used to Sean Connery that they felt dissapointed with OHMSS because ths was without Connery, but then again people did enjoy Live and Let Die which was also without Sean Connery.
@ELPaso1990TX This movie wasn't the worst, but one of the worst 3 imo (TWINE, QOS, OHMSS). It has a good story which could have been improved a bit. But I think the main problem was the fact that it repeatedly refers back to Sean Connery's films. Observe - Sean Connery was introduced in a casnio (like George), 'This never happened to the other feller' (meaning Sean), used music and gadgets from previous films + opening titles show previous bond girls. This was never done in the Roger Moore films
I know why everybody hates the movie....because of George Lazenby. He sux. I know a good actor when i see one, but this....is a dissapointing! He might be new and fresh....but everything he does (except for charming the ladies) doesnt give you the "Bond-aoura" So....with other words, the movie itself rules...but the Bond, UH-UH! :/

@Remington61189 Sorry, i was trying to make a subtle reply to your comment. What i should have said straight off was, "Wow, it`s not often you see the words `charming` and `Australian` in the same sentence. No offence intended........Oh, and by the way, most Bond fan`s really rate Lazenby`s performance. G`day.
@Tvirus - Agreed. Its my favorite Bond movie also, Diana Rigg as the "Bond Girl" was wonderful. Lazenby is a passable Bond (Connery was always my favorite - but I'm not sure he could have really played that part in that movie). The Assault on the Mountain Top would set a standard for years (and movies) to come. One of the only Bond movies with an unhappy ending.
@vv55sst Yes, an unhappy ending, but it was faithful to the novel!!! After this movie, the rest of the Bond movies tended to have very little to do with the books. Casino Royale, in a weird way, was pretty faithful to the book also. And it, too, had an unhappy ending.

@VIKINGxDNA Think all the Bonds did at least one movie without gadgets.
Dr. No didnt have hardly any save the geiger counter
The Man With the Golden Gun, other than the fake nipple, all Bond had was his PPK
For Your Eyes Only, Bond pretty much survived on his wits, yes you could say he had the Lotus, but that was blown up and he got another, but hardly used.
The Bond openings are so hypnotic, especially Lazenby's one, the music is fiendish, I just snooping around to this wonderfully concocted theme courtesy of John Barry (rest his soul), and the irony is, it's like something created by a Bond Villain to entise you - thes best opening by far is Dr No, I could just watch Maurice Binders dots flicker around all day and not get bored
Boy, I remember when this blockbuster first came out. These opening credits were incredibly avant-garde. Especially showing bits and pieces of the first 5 Bond movies. Interesting that all of the people highlighted from those first 5 movies included just about all the villains and girls, but none of Connery, M, Q, nor Moneypenny.
@sugreev2001 While not my favorite definately underrated. The scenery which is always amazing in the Bond films more then makes up for Lazenby. Telly Savales was awesome and Diana Rigg... well what else could be said?
People always complain about Daniel Craig, but Bond how he plays him is actually much closer to the character in the books than Sean Connery. Sean Connery is still the best Bond by far in my opinion but Craig's still good.
Pierce Brosnan is also good but the Bonds he made were quite crap.

@MAN80085 actually this is one of the more realistic and better James Bond movies. the worst bond movies were with timothy dalton as bond in two forgettable movies from the 1980s the living daylights and license to kill. BOTH OF THESE WERE HORRIBLE!!
Number three on my list and sadly either the last on everyone elses or completely forgotten. Lazenby would have been second only to Connery (obviously) had he been given better advice by his FUCKING agent.
Greatest theme and matching visuals EVER!!! Don't care how much technology we have today. That score evokes something in me. One of the best Bonds in the series along with License to Kill because they dared break the mold. Bond gets married and goes renegade. Respectively. Long live Lazenby and Dalton. The pics make me sad too as we look at the time past and those classic scenes of Connery's days. Reminds me life moves on.

i dont understand y it george lazenby..this guy made me hate james bond...all sean connery movies were great, then he came and ruined the james bond series..motherfucker
If any instrumental inspired me most growing up.....I would have to put OMSS original title score (this one) on the top of my list...simply genius (John Barry)...it also happens to be my fav Bond fick!!!
I remember watching this classic on USA last summer on a weekday morning in August, and those sexy female silhouettes on the blue background (0:40, 1:33 & 2:30) were censored by the network. They put up blurs! I couldn't believe that shit!!! And the movie came on at 6 a.m.!!! I don't know, I guess the models who posed for that opening back in '69 were actually nude. I wouldn't be surprised with a 007 flick. ;-) Anyway, this was a good 007 movie. But my favorite is still "Live and Let Die." :-)
George Lazenby was an excelent choice to play Bond, it's a shame he only did one Bond film. In my opinion, Sir Thomas Sean Connery the origional James Bond will ALLWAYS be the best. Magnificent actor!!
This is my fav Bond, because its the only one that is remotely close to the books and the only one were Bond is played as a real human being. Thanks for the post.
SPECTRE fires machine gun burst at phone booth where 007 is trying to call "M". Tracy screams "Jaaaaaaaames!!!!!" and races to rescue 007 - relentless theme for OHMSS starts - I am again sucked into the vortex of OHMSS - what a great heroine- what a romantic scenario - maybe Connery could have played this - but Lazenby already did - and did a great job!! This is the Bond movie where I actually worried about the characters - and stil marveled at the special effects. Great flick!!!
One of the best Bond openings. The music is haunting and alluring. Plus the images from past films gave it a sense of continuity that was still possible with only 5 films in the franchise history at that point.
this film was one of my favourite, definately in the top 5 james bond films of all time. Wonder if it would have been even better with sean connery in the role, seing as george lazenby wasnt the best, but he did an ok job
Connery was already tired of Bond by 1967 and it really showed when he returned in 1971 for Diamonds are Forever. So I think Connery probably would've turned in another tired performance. I don't think he would've handled the Tracy subplot as good as Lazenby did.
@ELO1138 despite his performance in "You Live Only Twice" being better and his in "Diamonds Are Forever. Lazenby seems out of place when Connery was the original Bond. The movie itself was good, but IMHO would been better with Connery who the plot would been perfect with had he not been tired with James Bond.
Awesome instrumental soundtrack to this, gritty sounding bass and early synths throughout. Clearly trying something a little different and suceeding majorly in my eyes.
@gurpst I thought that the two last movies were pretty good especially Casino Royale. But the theme song from Quantum of Solace was horrible. Had nothing to do with Bond. Probably the worst Bond song of all time.
@gurpst the fall of james bond is solely the peoples fault. you want a Jason Bourne they will give one. personally i thought this was a great film and Sean Connery should of not returned, I am happy to see people still talk about the "great films" this avatar shit is sicking, a rehash of Pocahontas with 8 foot blue people and bad acting...
@darthmonkeyman878 Really?? Quantum of Solace 2nd best?!?! Why did you like these 5 movies best? The only one on your list that might be on mine was Casino.
Probably the worst Bond flick of them all. Yet I think it is John Barry's most ambitious and most experrimental music on the Bond series ever. And Diana Rigg may be one of the hottest Bond gals ever.
THIS is your worst Bond movie?? R U kidding us?? You must hate incredibly suspenseful ski scenes, a villain that is threatening to contaminate the world's food supply, with undetectable "angels" that might even get by today's airport security. And Bond falling in love .... and losing ... one of the very few special gals in his life. Oh, and don't forget the incredible bobsled scene near the end. Yeah, you're right ..... it was terrible movie.
hate to nitpick but were you aware this isn't proper widescreen? The 4:3 letterboxed image was just stretched to fill the screen, the black bars are too thick.
The gunbarrel is the real giveaway as what should be a circle is an oval.
I like this in particular because its very faithful to the book. Especially the ending. I like Geogre Lazenby I thought he did a good job, and that alot of people called him stiff and this. But he allowed me personally for the bond character to care and have feelings. Which obliviously had effect for the current Bond Daniel Craig
People don't hate on it, it's actually the oposite of that, Bond fans consider this movie to be one of, if not the best Bond film ever made. The popular notion is that this film wasn't very popular when it came out because it was the first movie without Sean Connery and people were iffy about that. There's still a couple of gripes people have with the film, like Lazenby's stiff performance and John Glen's s lazy editing, but the story and Diana Rigg's performance outshadows all of that.
because the main guy is a bit of a wste actor but becuz of that they had to try and make everything else really GOOd it you know what it has, everything else in this movie is SWEET
the best bond

1) goldfinger- hes so calm serious and suave in this one and the part in miami is sweet. Classy
2) ohmss- SKI/CAR CHASE, mixed with xmas and romance
3) live and let die - its unique to the others and really summery. Cool boat/car chase
4)casino royale - its intense but the new bonds are no fun:(
5)thunderball - under the ocean and at a time when james bond was SUPER popular = lots of budget
6) goldeneye- a decent comeback

There's only been four good Bond movies, From Russia With Love,On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Living Daylights, and Licensed to Kill.
Daniel Craig looks like he should be in a Mickey Spillane movie.

Probably the worst Bond flick of them all. Yet I think it is John Barry's most ambitious and most experrimental music on the Bond series ever. And Diana Rigg may be one of the hottest Bond gals ever.

6 thumbs down say it all!! best theme ever.......;)

Favorite Bond List
1. Goldeneye
2. From Russia With Love
3. OHMSS
4. Goldfinger
5. License to Kill
Zhugeliang31 2 years ago
hate to nitpick but were you aware this isn't proper widescreen? The 4:3 letterboxed image was just stretched to fill the screen, the black bars are too thick.
The gunbarrel is the real giveaway as what should be a circle is an oval.

Best. Bond. Movie. Ever. My top 5 list (just my personal favorites):
1.) On Her Majesty's Secret Service
2.) Live and Let Die
3.) The Living Daylights
4.) From Russia With Love
5.) The Spy Who Loved Me
Don't hate me, but I'm not really a fan of the Brosnan Bonds, but heck, I'll take them over no Bond film any day. And Goldeneye isn't half-bad.

I never seen this movie. Why do people hate on it?
sheemobile 2 years ago
People don't hate on it, it's actually the oposite of that, Bond fans consider this movie to be one of, if not the best Bond film ever made. The popular notion is that this film wasn't very popular when it came out because it was the first movie without Sean Connery and people were iffy about that. There's still a couple of gripes people have with the film, like Lazenby's stiff performance and John Glen's s lazy editing, but the story and Diana Rigg's performance outshadows all of that.

George Lazenby was offered the next bond movie after OHMSS, but he thought that the bond series was over, and he turned down the offer
ecafracs10 2 years ago
George Lazenby WAS offered the following Bond film after On Her Majesty
Secret Service, but he turned it down. In an interview with him that I saw, he said the the character James Bond was too violent for him to play.

The best bond film ever. Pity George didnt make a couple more to allow him to grow into the part.
