Actually PPL the firefighter did actually pull the boy out of the building, and the man helped get him down the stairs. I know this because i saw the same video somewhere else on youtube, except the video statred earlier.
You really need to change your opening description. No doubt the civilian "helped" but the OV FF from the first due truck gets the credit in anyones eyes who know antthing about the job. A tip of the leather to my brother (or sister)!
Wait, this guy is actually saying he went in that building and made the grab???? HAHAHAHA...It was fully charged! He woulda been covered in soot and completely black, not to mention probly unconcious as one deep breath of smoke that thick woulda done him in!
Gotta agree with firemaster granted that guy did help but the FF had to push through the smoke and drag that lifeless body out beleve me having done that before the civilian definatley had the easy job. Good job to that firefighter!
As a NYC firefighter since Feb 1st of 2001 Id like to say something here as well. To the credit taker mr cretan--- EVERY fire Ive ever been in if my facepiece is dislodged or not covering exposed skin- even for 30 seconds- that spot was then filthy- Why were you squeaky clean if you had smoke inhalation? Your face would have been BLACK...Also if you vented that window- howd you do it with your hands- the new windows in those buildings are double paned- we have trouble breakin them with tools
@JimmyR1rider continuing- if you did go in and save that boy like you said and took a feed like you would have in that room why were you so full of energy and moving briskly down the escape when the firefighter that supposedly didnt wasnt responsible for the grab was so exhausted after crawling out the window that he didnt care he was right outside that window that could have had flames vent out at him he just needed to take a blow?<that means a rest.
@JimmyR1rider continuing-- and let me tell you that we NEVER get off the rig without our tools so where the brothers tools? INSIDE THE APARTMENT THAT HE PULLED THE KID OUT OF. And the kid wasnt dead when he was on the stretcher- there would have been medics and firemen doin frantic cpr on him if to revive him if that was the case. So kudos to the brothers in 47 Truck and congrats to mr credit monger cretan....Hope you enjoyed the 15 minutes of fame.
@JimmyR1rider One more thing rebreathers- the oxygen delivery mask on the boys face we only use on breathing patients- if not breathing theres an OPA so the tongue doesnt get in the way of the windpipe and we bag them- use a BVM to force oxygenated air into the lungs.
The grab was made by the the truck company who handed the boy out. The man then carried him down. No doubt a brave act by the man BUT the notice the room that boy came out of, nobody was getting to him but a FF.
Did this guy really go on air and claim he saved the kid?! Mr. Cretan if you know firemen you know we don't take credit or go on tv to claim to be a hero. Everything we do after we take our oath is part of the job after that. To the brothers of FDNY, 343 never forgotten from a Colorado brother.
as far as the cashing of checks every other week it is our job so yes some of us are paid.. but we dont do it for the money(what little it really is in NY fir the FDNY). So next time your on a talk show just remember why you dont see anyone claiming credit with you.
It is kind of funny how everyone is calling you a hero when you clearly did not even pull the kid out. Then you go on air and claim all the credit?? REALLY! you have to be kidding me! i am with 47fdny as well as every other brothers idea on this, your a joke! Let me ask you a question why is it that the firefighter who actually saved the boy was nowhere to be found on the talk shows with you while you were being applauded and proposing?? i bet he was working like the rest of us.
first i would like to say that was a nice save i have to give him credit where credit is due good job.. to the firefighter! second dude your a joke yes you happened to be on the escape and yes you carried the boy 1 flight of stairs i give you credit for that.
Continue- I just hope that when u are trusted to put fires out in apartments, u keep your hands to urself next time with peoples property, talk about humble, what's humble about u in ur message? You guys were attending ur fellow firefighter, sry about that, my deepest sympathy, but is not as if u dont know what u sign up for when u become a fighter, and is not as if u forget to cash ur check every week either, i volunteered, and the real question is , what do i owe u, what did i ever do to you?
Judging by ur name, "47fdny", it tells me that you probablly work for ladder 47 in Castle Hill, that means that, the things that ur are posting here, are the very same words that everybody shares in that fire house, if that's the case it is kind of messed up , having that everybody there shook my hand with a smile on their face, i probablly shook your hand 2, i hope you are not the same guy that opened my check at the luncheon meeting,
furthermore, u have no class and have no idea what the meaning of the word humble is. the firefighter went in and rescued that boy and u know it. most importantly, the people that really matter, other firefighters and that firefighters friends and family, know what happen that day and that boy is alive because of it
continuing-u did not have smoke inhalation..u received oxygen and went to the hospital to ham it up and u did. u also did not break a rib. do u know where that firefighter was while u were on the ellen degeneres show? he was attending the funeral of another firefighter who died in the line of duty. so u complain ur broke and had to close ur store for days...well then maybe u shouldnt have flown to california!! u wanted to be a celebrity and made a mochery of this whole thing
to mr cretan...maybe if u showed any class or dignity after the boy was rescued people wouldnt be giving u such a hard time. instead u acted as if the fdny wasnt even there. THE FIREFIGHTER climbed the aerial ladder 4 stories in the air, THE FIREFIGHTER broke the window the boy was in, THE FIREFIGHTER jumped off the ladder onto the fire escape 4 stories in the air, and most importantly, THE FIREFIGHTER went into heavy black smoke and high heat to rescue that boy
Continuing- What i gave back to the other firefighter was an alive boy, did anybody see anybody else such as a professional go up to help Jimmy Senk, but let's back track a little, if anything would've gone wrong, does anybody in their right mind here think that, i would still be a hero, or i would be at my own hearing in front of a judge facing manslaughter charges for not minding my bussines! Keep hating but use some common sense, that could've been ur baby, i didn't ask to be filmed !
I see that some people had nothing better to do, but hate ,it's easy to stay home and write garbage, but let me enlighten you now and forever, i went up there 1st, i broke the windows, and i was engulfed by smoke several times, i did have smoke inhalation and suffered a broken rib, the footage that you witnessed was about half of what really happened, what i've gotten out of, all this, was the hospital bill of $ 610, for 2 motrins and a glass of water, what i had in my hands was a dead boy!
I watched an interview with this guy and according to the news cast, he had gone up and into the building and got the kid ready to go before ladder 47 had even gotten to the boy. trust me ill be the first to credit fellow firefighters on a job well done. but this man deserves respect for his actions.
Thats just it, we dont do it for the credit. We do it because its our job and a honor to help those in need. Im sure that firefighter doesnt give a damn who got the credit, just that the kid was saved. Much Respect To him.
@firemansta30 you got the words, no firefighters complain about the money they are getting from the job. they do this because firefighters rescue and loves the job.
The firefighter DID save him! and took a beating from the smoke and heat. The other guy has no smoke in his nose, his hair was not even messed up.All he did was go up the fire escape and grab kid from the firefighter. I will debate anyone that thinks otherwise with actual fire science facts.Umm ya im a firefighter.O well another fire fighter not getting the credit he is due.
i really hope that if your ever get put in this situation on scene that you dont get pissed off because you didnt get the glory for it.. i agree that credit should be given wherever credit is due. but that firefighter probably doesnt care at all about what credit might or might not be his. only that kid made it out.
Why is this guy accepting all this praise and honor? What he did was great, but the fireman made the grab. He was the one who went in and searched around the apt in smoke and fire, found the kid, brought him to the window then out the window.... How come this guy not once even acknowledged that!
The OV (outside vent Firefighter, a job on the Ladder truck) made the grab! Then handed the boy out to the man. Let's give credit where credit is due.
He doesn't need a bvm if he's breathing adequately. He might just be unresponsive. Breathing is fine.

What kind of piss poor medical care is that? The mask isn't even on his face properly. He should've had someone assisting ventilations with a BVM!!
