You've pretty much got it. Paramount is a studio AND a distributor, so often they are the company that produces a film. But sometimes they just buy the rights to a film, or "acquire" it. That gives them the right to distribute it, or sometimes even remake it. My film was acquired in a similar way, so there's probably a 10-12 year deal, and then the movie reverts back to the producers.
I kept falling asleep. The movie wasn't scary. I mean sure, it made you jump, but other than that, it's not that big of a horror movie.
Sucked.
