Great video! helped me figure out how to slow mine down with the combination of the servo motor and the pulley system. Did you fab the pulleys or was it that way when you bought it? Looks like about $50-$60 in parts and a day to play around with placement. I would think the motor needs to be moved a bit to keep the second pulley in line with the hand flywheel on the machine.
I just got a second hand Pfaff (I think it's 14th hand, actually... looks pretty ancient, but at least you've given me an idea of what I'm getting, since it's the first time I'll be working with an industrial, so... thanks
Thank you so much for sharing. I was given a lovely gift of a Singer 211A, and I need to get it up and running. Your video is helpful even though we have different brands. I may end up watching this a number of times. The explanations of how things work is really helpful.
This may sound really dumb, but what's the difference between a lock stitch and a straight stitch? Every time I speak with an "expert" I am told exactly the opposite of what the last guy told me... I would like to create leather dog collars/leashes... Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Oh, and where are you located and do you currently have any machines available?
@raysofgreys - All sewing machines use a lock stitch. Google "how a sewing machine works" and then click on HowStuffWorks to see the difference between a lock stitch and a chain stitch. Some toy sewing machines do a chain stitch, but no real sewing machines do. A straight stitch is a type of lock stitch, as opposed to, say, a zig-zag stitch which is also a type of lock stitch.
@raysofgreys For dog collars and leashes.. ask for a walking foot machine with a large bobbin size. have it setup with leather point needles. many points are available for different effects. e.g stitches can be set at an angle.
@raysofgreys Straight stitch = stitch is straight and in line unlike zig zag. lock stitch uses a bobbin unlike chain stitch which does not. chain stitch will run undone if cut. lockstich will not. Chain stitch will stretch with stretchy fabric. lockstitch will not stretch and therefore will snap if stretched. btw. i used to work for pfaff uk
Very well done video. And a cool machine too! I was considering a "Sailrite" for the heavy duty home use stuff I want to do. But now I am leaning more toward a used commercial setup like this. I would LOVE to have that machine!
This video is awesome! Thank you so much for posting it! That slow speed you can get is just amazing. The Singer 111 I bought doen't have the knee lift or reverse, or that high lift....which now I can appreciate! But that servo motor...wow....*that* is worth the money!!!
Hey. Thanks for posting the video. I have an industrial sewing machine right now that I cant get working. It's the same table and similar machine. It's a Nakajima 181L-2. I have it threaded properly, I just dont know how to set the bobbin and rotating hook underneath. It keeps breaking needles and wont actually sew anything.
Looks exactly like my consew I inherited. I just need a servo motor for detail work.

Did you add the pulley system yourself? I have one of these machines and it is too fast. I need a setup like the one you have.

@HungryGuyStories . Wrong. Chain stitch is a popular type of stitch in many garments. T-shirts, Denim Jeans an so on.
