MUITA CRIATIVIDADE, MUITA COMUNICACAO, DISFRUTAM ATE HOJE A MUSICA IMPROVISADA... ISSO E TUDO PARA UM MUSICO DE VERDADE...

  • +++ amazing ^^ :+++

  • is there an official album of this exhibition??

  • @TheStormFinder The "Metheny/Mehldau" album is with exactly this quartet, and this track is included. It's a great album!

  • @JanusJaau yes, I bought it last week, very good album!! thx a lot!!

  • WOW!! mehldau and metheny together are awesome!

  • i feel like seeing a wide and opened distant view from a higher place.

  • No problem to miss end part, because part already played is excellent , my friend...

  • I love Pat

  • Pat Metheny - A Night Away (Live.Cover) Please watch

  • my favourite part is when pat's so happy at what he's contributuing he's jumping up and down at 7.20, but listen to that, he has every right to be happy about that :)

  • Magic!

  • 6 Justin bieber's fans/retardeds watched this video

  • this is literally better than sex

  • at 7:22 Pat enters the flow and is completely in song thus jumping

  • at 3:15 bad proves to me again why he is my favorite pianist right now

  • ...around 3:03 I had to stop what I did (.I just wanted to listen to "some Metheny" while working...haha) and stare at my monitor...Brad Mehldau, man!

  • really nice groove with the bass at 2:12... and beautifully when it changes in 2:26 :-D

  • fill @ 1:13 is so sick, jeff looks well chuffed too. niceeeeeee

  • one of the best line ups of the past 20 years in my opinion. i think that these guys best exemplify the true meaning of jazz music at its finest. they break their own comfort zones at every moment they can in order to learn more about themselves and the style they play. i wish there were more out there.

  • Mehldau performs improvised melodic solo with each hand concurrently.

  • Comment removed

  • very HOT!

  • they straight kill it

  • I thought the best part was between 0:00 and 9:25, with the bass, drums, guitar and piano all playing at the same time

  • @gorz33 Yeah, that nine and a half minute bit where they're playing their instruments in a typically skillful manner is very impressive.

  • @gorz33 ? its called music retard

  • @jazzguitar1221 Oh, I'm sorry, God, I didn't realize I missed Sunday school. I hope you're a better musician than you are a comedian. Now, I shall stop here and deny you the satisfaction of a flame war.

  • @gorz33 fuckin' awesome comment!

  • what the size of the guitar has to say about the music?? imho stupid cmnt!

  • amazing Pat is great brad is just breath taking

  • As usual, Mehldau KILLS! ;-)

  • @JacobShulman

You're kidding right? Shulman you got pitts!

  • It's not too big, the people are too small.

  • You must admit Larry and Jeff bring it...and keep on bringing it!

  • i love this one!!

  • brad on 3:34 until 3:50 !!!

  • ...Awesome track !! Awesome talent !! wow !!!

  • Wow, Brad's lick at 3:52 is so striking and beautiful.

  • 4:11 also I think

  • Holy shit, I just started really getting into Brad Mehldau a few days ago, and listening to him is changing my perspective on how jazz piano should be played

  • Sensacional!

  • im playing guitar..........

but i like mehldaus performance more than methenys here :)

  • @dr4ncer music is music, instruments are just tools

  • Yes Ladies and Gentlemen: Brad Mehldau- :-)

  • brad is the best of all

  • What a group!

    Thanks for you!:-)

  • heh of course.....

  • Hahahahaha compare Steve Vai and Pat Metheny... my god... Try to compare Alice Cooper and Pavarotti too...

  • Comment removed

  • go listen to steve vai then and quit opening your mouth when you have no idea what the hell you're talking about

  • GENIUS

  • Together they are poetry in motion, with skills that cannot be duplicated, imitated or replicated by anyone that tries.

  • This song is the best.

Bass, Guitar and the battery. Sounds great!

  • This is something called MUSIC! ;)

    Thanks you very much!

  • Amazing!

  • oh wow they have a few albums, thats cool. Im just getting into metheny but i have been into jazz for a while but hes quickly turning into a major influence for me

  • I think i prefer the some parts of the solo on the record the beginning but some parts here are wicked, live music is so great

  • did they make a record with metheny?

  • Yea man they have an entire album together, very good album, I LOVE IT, haha just as much as meshuggah and gojira :P

  • two albums

  • Pat just kills on that solo from 5:40 on for the final four minutes. Amazing!

  • i think that just might be the most incredible piano solo ive heard in my life!! who is this band?! hahaha

  • It is the Brad Mehldau Trio with special guest Pat Metheny on guitar. They did a world tour together about a year and a half ago. I saw it and I can't stop wanting to see them again.

  • 最高!

  • Definitely great stuff. My fav PM of all time is "Are You Going With Me?" on Offramp. Favorite album is "We Live Here."

  • I absolutely LOVE the songs on this album. Unique collab between Metheny/Mehldau. The only thing that I noticed about this first track (the recorded version), is how the tempo speeds up drastically. Not that it's a big deal, but I listen to this in my earphones when I exercise (walking); and by the end of the tune, I am practically running! :0P

  • this is one of pats best song period. easily in the top ten, maybe even top 5 but i would need to give it more thought.

  • I would have to disagree that Jeff Ballard is a "meat head"... I think he plays beautifully on this track... but that's my opinion.

  • I must agree this song is very good:)

but my favorite from album is tierra que no olvida what means place which you can't forget:) beautiful

  • I love this song. M favourite y in that album

  • best clip on youtube, more more more!!!

  • Mehldau has never been known to be a ripper like Metheny. They are both sick musicians in their own right. Mehldau has great melodies and never gets in the way and Metheny plays some sick nasty lines. They are a great combination together for this reason alone. Great group.

  • Hey, check out the clipp with Mehdlau, Redman, Blade, McBride. Brad is like 24 and tears the stage down with his chops ;) Best Sandemose

  • I agree with the living dream... mehldau has a very unique soloing style that uses a lot of dissonance and patterns that you don't hear out of other jazz pianists, especially older ones, most of the time. In an interview with Metheny, he said the first time someone gave him an album with Brad on it he actually had to pull over his car when he started soloing because he was so astounded. They're both excellent musicians.

  • the soundmix on youtube makes him sound smaller - dont judge theese recordings too much, just enjoy it

  • Yes, I never said Mehldau wasn't a great musician. He is one and I definitely like him!! He has great melodies and he's a master but metheny expresses something more than just notes when he plays. It's magic... Hence my comment. Oh and by the way, I'm not relying on this clip to write my opinion. I have their album and I have seen them live here at Lisbon ;)

  • More from this show please!

  • listening to them is simply an orgasmic experience

  • Buenísimo!

  • all over him and give him awards. We'd all joke about it ("Uh Larry...can we get something for you? Would you like to come for dinner tonight?",) and laugh, including Larry.

Here's the best part about him:

He was the nicest, sweetest guy on the planet. I don't mean,"I'm great and I know it and I'll be nice cuz it's the right thing." The guy was nice. Nicest guy...semi-quiet.

Ok...thank you for letting me gush. I'll shut up now. (I'm just so proud.)

  • I'd really love to meet him some day....he's my hero. So good.

  • I'd love to run into him too. "Hey Larry...'member me? Jeez...look what you've done..."

  • I can't believe this. It just now occured to me to punch in a guy I went to highschool with, and there he was: Larry Grenadier...with Pat Methany. I am floored. (I knew he was playing w/Pat...saw in paper once. But seeing on YouTube?! Another trip.)

Had the honor/pleasure of playing with Larry in highschool jazz band for one year. (Him senior, me freshman.) Every practice was a treat. (He would play electric.) Yes we knew he was great. All the jazz edudacators would gush...

  • Incredible.

  • Fantastic! What a meshing of great talent.

  • さいこーっ

  • damn I'd love for a DVD performance by metheny/mehldau to come out

  • I was there!! and it was great!

  • stunning.. just wow

  • Wow, simply amazing.

  • Pat Metheny never studied with Jim Hall. He did study briefly with Joe Diorio in Miami. Many of the tunes from his first album grew out of interval exercises by Diorio. I know because I studied with Joe myslef while at USC.

  • MEHLDAU IS AN MONSTRUO OF PIANO!!!!

  • damn good tune...i never thought metheny and mehldau would work well when i first heard that they were going to record together...thought their ideas would conflict but it syncs real well

  • Here in Brazil when one wants to see strippers on stage he goes to any carnival dance halls. When you want to listen good MUSIC, you go to see guys like these playing live. Does anybody have a better idea?

  • yeah shutup and play guitar

  • id say this is better than strippers.

  • word, brotha.

  • metheny is boring? huh? are we watching the same video? what do you want strippers on stage?

  • hah! Yeah lets get some strippers out here. We need a new era of jazz that has strippers come out during 'boring' solos.

  • Metheny is unbelievable, I read some of the responses on this page and I was rather shocked at some of the comments. Metheny is up there with the best of all time jazz players, his ability to think over changes is unreal, and has a sound that is unlike any other player.

  • dude, accomplished jazz players don't think over changes. they have already spent time internalizing all the musical knowledge through constant, constant, constant practice.

  • Brad Mehldau's solo at 4:09...wow.

  • Mehldau's hands - Wow

  • Yes guscaldas, it's really anoying to ear that left hand....it's really a shitty hand. I like much his right hand. As for Pat Metheny solos, you are also right, boring....I never understood why he is one of the best jazz guitarist and musician....it's really strange, so many people in history wrong....well...it happens.

  • Just your opinion. I love the way he plays

  • Men...Obviously I was joking...

  • I didn't know you were joking when I read it, I forgot to turn up the volume on the text to hear the tone of your sarcasm.

  • clearly you have issues

  • I really like metheny's solo in this video. Yes, he does employ some of "old tricks" but he's got some really interesting stuff going on over these changes.

  • boring? you must be huffing glue. Jim Hall is great but doesn't come close to Metheny . No on does .

  • don't be silly! what you wrote is completely ridiculous. Jim Hall is a fantastic player. But of course you don't know him. I mean, you think you know, but big heads like you exist so then wrong ideas and stupid comments can exist too.

  • ask metheny what he thinks about that stupid comment. Jim Hall is great, end of story. Without Hall, Metheny as we know him ceases to exist.

  • shutup and play yor guitar

  • I'm going to have to disagree only on principle. Pat Metheny, though well-taught by Jim Hall, would no doubt be an incredible player no matter who he studied with. Who you study with is nothing if you're not willing to put in the work and dedication that it takes to become as much of a virtuoso as Pat is. That's what I'm thinking anyway.

  • I read a review of Metheny that said he has lost his creativity, he has no more tricks up his sleeve, so to speak. After listening to this very introspective CD, I beg to differ! And I think the collaboration with Mehldau is refreshing and really cool. I feel the 'blend' of their unique styles is almost as good as the Metheny/Jaco Pastorius collab. from the late 70's!

  • man who would say hes lost creativity? thats rediculous. the metheny mehldau combo is absolutely amazing. same with his work with michael brecker on pilgrimage.

  • I wish I could remember...basically the author highly praised this CD, and said the collab was refreshing and unique. Then he discussed how Metheny is getting older, more stale, losing his spark. The author was pleasantly surprised by this CD. Maybe I read it in Rhapsody??

  • Now I dont even understand that. Any rock musician can take three chords use them over and over and people love them (look at acdc) but when pat plays two solos that sound the same he is "loosing his creativity"? what is with that. Metheny is a brilliant musician, I am just happy to have lived at the same time as him and was fortunate enough to meet him.I will never get tired of listening to him

  • Man, music critics are morons, NEVER read what they write. Listen and make up your own opinion.

It pisses me the &*/%$ off that those guys get paid to write their crap.

  • Hopefully that reviewer has changed his mind after hearing the new Pat Metheny Trio record as well. What a fantastic release from three amazing players. I love the energy that Antonio Sanchez has brought to Pat's playing, they have a great rapport together.

  • I agree. The new Metheny trio stuff is amazing.

And Sanchez is great. I saw him live with Pat a few years ago. And later with Chick Corea, and both times i was blown away.

  • But Jeff Ballard is also a great player, I've heard him the first time on this CD and he sounds great, he has his own voice.

  • exqusito sonido en guitarra asi como piano el conjunto resulta fenomenal

  • Larry Grenadier: Acoustic Bass

    Jeff Ballard: Drums

    Saludos RobertoHMV

  • That was simply amazing. I saw them on one of the first dates of this tour and they seem to have gotten even tighter. Simply amazing.

  • i bet the trio just loves playing with Pat. I look at him, and his love for music is almost overwhelming. You could just smell it, eh?

  • Son dos genios.Yo tambien me pregunto porque no se da una vuelta Pat por Argentina.

  • i am a huge fan of metheny, and i always will be. personally i like more his stuff with Lyle Mays, but this two have made their click to. i realy like this stuff!!!! tanks for posting

  • Brad meldhau has a beautiful touch.. This guy makes me want to be better each day im listening to him !

  • Melhdau is awesome. Paired with Metheny is a match mad in heaven. God this song is amazing, the whole album is great.

  • Feels like floating... :)

  • the pianist is soooooooooooooo good!

  • hes alright

  • Whom do you like more?

  • That we might expect for another thing from these weones if they touch his instruments atoaraja

  • shhhhh....geniuses at work

  • Good answered

  • this performance, matheny&meldau is one of the best with metheny, and this song is greatest one from their album

  • Great video! Where did you get the concert? :)

  • I'm trying to figure out the progression of this song, it sounds like the first two chords are D minor, followed by a G/C, but I'm not positive, anyone have a better idea than me? Thanks

  • My guess is Dadd9 no 3rd (but minor is implied in some parts of the melody and some of mehldau's voicings) then an Ami/C as the A note stays in the progression like a pedal tone.

  • mehldau doesnt know what chords are.

  • hum..; is that true?

maybe "knows but doesn't think about it"

    would be more right..right?

  • by the way,

    It's amazing watching

    metheny,mehldau's current playing.

    Getting better and better,

    totally mind blowing!

  • you got it bro

  • Awesome performance, Metheny & Mehldau are great! Thanks for posting:)

  • Where did you get a full 2 hours of this amazing group? I missed them when they came around and have regretted that ever since.

  • It would be incredibly nice of u if you can post more of it, because its very hard to find that tour online... plus im sure youll make a lot of people happy, starting with myself. So if you want to spread the joy around, posting would be the right thing to do. Thanks a lot man for that vid and can't wait for whats coming next...

  • Hey Guys!
