Oh yea also if you are being pursued and your group sufficiently large some of your marines won't be aggrowed and will continue to move out of range-- but if they hold ground for the split second they need to attack then the ones up ahead will stay with the group and have extra attacks for things that come in range.
@Adovid If you can a-click then right click fast enough, then there is no reason to use hold position or stop instead. ^^ I agree that some might find it easier, however I find it more intuitive to a-click. It might be possible to H,click,H,click faster than using a-click, right click, however this doesn't help you once you can stutter step as fast as marines attack with stim, past which point going faster would lead to the marines not firing.
@iStarKast clicking is still an extra action. More actions to do the same thing lead to more chances something will go wrong. Murphey's Law or whatever. Pressing stop is not the best idea because unit's will not instantly turn to attack. A-move will not always work because you might have obstacles such as overlords in the way.
at 23:30 i dont think you need all the force fields entirely around the army, you would only need the ones in the back of the army since you have zealots acting like a wall at the choke point. so none can go forward or back away fromthe choke point. that would save nrg for more force shields later on.
@TheSmokey2312 If you message me I can explain Micro if you want me to.
I don't play StarCraft, but I do play other RTS games, and generally every RTS game shares basic microing capabilities, although depending on which RTS it is changes it.
Great video. I'm a mid level masters player and even I found it interesting. You have a good way of explaining it to new players while still microing in a somewhat advanced way. My only suggestion for future videos is that you should try not to smack your lips as much as normal. If you watch your video you'll notice that you do it alot, and it's distracting! Other than that, great vid. I look forward to the more advanced ones.
i don't suggest this patrol moving tactic once you get used to attempting to split them in that way a bit(you get in the marine splitting mindset) because if you get surprised by your opponents units, all of your shit is dead immediately.
@downsideCSS I totally agree that patrol moving isn't the optimal way to split marines, however, for newer players I believe it is easiest, yet effective, method. I plan to make a more advanced micro video at some point in the future, which will demonstrate more advanced tactics like preventing overshoot on units, and use of terrain.
Thanks for your feedback! It really is appreciated. ^^
well generally when you shift que your units to do something you're a little bit more relaxed on watching to make sure they're doing what you told them to be doing. if you shift que your units and you do get a little bit lax on watching what they're doing, and your opponent is microing his units back, your units will take a large amount of unnecessary fire if you're lucky, and a lot more if he realizes what's happening
@downsideCSS I'll respond to this the same way. ^^ What I said in the video isn't optimal, and I agree that good habits should be instilled when trying to get better. This video is meant to be an aside for improving players. A lot of the micro topics I focused on in the video are targeted at players whose priority when improving should be to look at their macro. A basic micro video is still relevant, as there is no reason they shouldn't learn some basic micro as an aside.
Having said that, maybe in the video I just showed a bad example. In early game PvP you won't be shift-click target firing stalkers that way. It simply isn't necessary, as you should be microing and watching the battle the entire time. When you get to a later stage in the game in PvP, and vs. tanks in PvT, you DO want to be shift clicking to target fire down stalkers or tanks with your immortals, as these are the units they perform best against in most battle situations.
the reason you target fire with a-click rather than rmb is that if you missclick, you add a move command into your queue, so your stalkers stop attacking for a while, while a-click makes them still attack
Great video man, I hope you don't mind but I linked it to reddit. It's awesome to see someone helping new players. That's what's going to make e-sports accessible and that's what what will make it huge.

Hold ground is faster than attack click. Save yourself a click and hold your finger over h instead of a.
