Is really sad this happens next time someone goes and the police tries to do this they should secretly film it make sure the face is well recorded and post it! hell, send it to President Garcia and put on 24hours peru.

That's really sad, but the problem is money because I know if they would get a better salary their acts wold be better as well. Their salary is 180 dollars per month and with a family is difficult, I'm not saying that they have tio be corrupt if they don't have money but most of them do their job busting drug dealers, thieves and other assholes. Besides that there's is no problem if u go to Peru just ask at your hotel where u shold walk by and where not.
Well I most say I feel sorry for government workers who don't get paid, but its a very short term solution to treat one of the countries biggest and most potential incomes they way they do. Also as I walked in the "safe turist area" called MiraFlores in Lima I was arrested for no reason, handcuffed and driven around town for 4 hours before they finally let me go. Of cause the two uniformed officers with guns robbed for all my cash. So anyway just watch it in Peru!

Sorry but my hard disc crashed some weeks ago and I lost about 50GB video. Luckily I still hvae the digital DV tapes, but the have been shipped to Denmark and have to be edited again!

1.some tourist go to Peru not to visit but to get drugs and these people the best way to get the police off their backs is to bride them.
2. their pay is not the best, so to increase it they solicit money from tourist and nationals.

hey mates sorry to heard that i was in ecuador and the police there were okay i am planing to go back to travel again around south america but i wont pop around peru in my bike have a good time mate say hi to the danish bloke too.
I am the Danish bloke ;-) But I´ll say hi to John. He´s flying to Miami today and I just fly my bike from Columbia to Panama today. What a hassle...puhh. Anyway Columbia is the best in South America by far. Peru is good in the mountains (Machu Pichu is a MOST), but fucked by the Pacific coast, so if you go take care!

Yeah, its been some very (almost too) exciting weekthe last 2. The police arrested me in Lima and put me in hand cuffs, drove me around for almost 3 hours, before the kicked me out of the police truck. And oh yeah the stole all my cash.
