Proof yet again that vicious behavior is related to nurture, not nature. I had a 93 lb pit bull named George - never cut his ears or tail, but his wide head, large, muscular body and thunderous bark was enough to intimidate most people on sight. He was a total cream puff. The only way he ever hurt anyone is when he would try to crawl into their lap - George didn't understand how big he was, but was aware of his strength and always practiced restraint. The most gentle, loving dog ever.

if you raise hens and the chicks and sharky, why is it that the chicks would follow sharky? i thought that chicks only recongize the first thing they see as their mothers, so shouldn't they only follow the hens?

I've NEVER had a problem with any of the so-called "vicious breeds" (pitbulls, rottweilers, etc). On the other hand, I've had small dogs snap at me. I feel safer around pitbulls than almost any other breed, truthfully.

My neighbor has 2 PitBull's that are only rough lovers and family protectors, plus they just recently added 2 stray cats into the family without any problems with the dogs. Years ago the "problem" used to be with German Shepherd's and Doberman's. What breed is next?

All pit bulls are really sweet. If one flies off the handle just turn your head towards the owner. I hate when people label pits as monsters they just have powerful jaws and so people breed them to fight. They are sweet dogs i have plenty.

"lovehandbags06" Sure, PitBulls and cats can get along, but like with ANY breed dog, it's as much luck as how they're brought together and the dog's temperment. Some dogs don't do well with temptation, and you can't trust them with anything that might take them over the edge.

When chicks and ducks hatch then first few weeks I keep them in a little cage. Later when they are stronger and healthy I put them with other older birds in a fenced yard for them.
