I like the connection between Supernatural and the song...I love both very much, but I'd never think of the combination... It's great!! I cried during listening and watching but don't tell anyone ;) ;)
I will not say if this is better than the original Billy version, because they are very different things. They are differently styled and cannot be fairly compared. But i love this video, one of my favorite TV shows. I am a musician, male lead in the school musical without fail, and lead tenor in the chorus. We actually wanted to do this version of this song, but didnt have enough people. But at some point i might post a video of myself singing it, not to show off, but as a hommage.
@xCisco1 No, he doesn't, as a matter of fact. I wonder if you're being sarcastic here? I hope you're not, because otherwise you come off as no less of a "stuck-up arrogant little bitch".
@blazingcold22 You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree with xCisco, firstly on his point, and secondly on his use of expletives. It seems to be a sad trend on Youtube video comments that such obscenities are used to reinforce one's point.
How can anyone argue that any version is better than the original version, sung by the man who wrote it and gave the words and the music meaning! This version by the king singers is nice, sure, but nothing compares to Billy singing it because it is his creation!
I love this song this is one of my favorite arrangements. I mean the Original is great but i think this version gives the lyrics more meaning . Just how the song moves and stops gives me chills
Nice vid! :) Concerning the song, I think I like this version almost as much as the original. Definitely more than David Archuleta's version. But, I gotta say...I feel that the Marianas Trench cover is much more dynamic and beautiful. The versions are obviously quite different--this cover is sang in a fairly straight tone, while the Mtrench version is vibrato. I just happen to think that is better.
ok for the ppl hating on me or if ur gonna hate on me, just wanna say that i was kidding. i wanted to see what ppl would do if i said that. i didnt mean it. peace and love...
I'm really sorry, but fuck this! GO WATCH THE MARIANAS TRENCH COVER OF THIS SONG! I'm not even joking, it is so beautiful. after hearing the Marianas trench version first, I hate how these ppl sang this -:/
@MyP0cky first of all, sure you can go ahead and like mariana's trench, I don't care. But the king's singers are one of the most prestigious a capella groups in the world. They know how to sing this far better than that other band, whether it be to stay in perfect pitch or to make it musical
Everytime I listen to this tune I think of a friend that no longer seems to stay in touch :( I miss him terribly much because... The feeling of seeing him at certain few times i get butterflies in my tummy and a sucking feeling... Wolfbeast.. I have not, and will not ever have a friend like you again </3
@mistatomsom They are brothers who have been through hell and back - literally - and who have saved each other countless times while losing their dad in the fight against evil.
well there certainly is a homoerotic connection between them... I've never had a borther so I don't know much of brotherly love, but they apear as lovers more than brothers....
@TheEarthgirl61 I don't think any of the King's Singers look at it that way. They have great admiration for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and have performed with the group several times. The same goes for Chanticleer, who the King's Singers speak very highly of.
we sang this at a music for youth festival we had the full choir version (sopranos altos tenors and basses and it sounded epic i loved it and being a tenor i got to do the solo whoo epic song amazing version
@aipomms I hear you- I sang this as soprano when I was at university also with full voice parts...Still have goosebumps as it was so beautiful . I still sing along when i hear it.
@kaffelatte2 actually it is the king's singers... my choir at school is thinking of singing this for a concert and our director showed us this youtube video to show us this song. he said it was the king's singers.
@kaffelatte2 i don't know how they can be far better than The King's Singers when they are the performers. Just listen again I believe you will hear it next time.
I heard this live from the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. That was even better...not the cheesy overdubs and extra tracks with echo-effect, but simple and pure and direct from the heart.
@MyMusic0201 this IS how they sound live "simple and pure and direct from the heart", the "echo effect" is because this was recorded in a concert hall, so assuming this was done with overdubs and multiple tracks is a very big mistake.
Oh come on, listen closely. The second verse is really more than 6-part voicing. And when you record a small chorus in a room with a lot of echo, it does not sound lilke this. You cannot have the direct sound of the soloist and the echo of the hall thàt clearly at the same time. I do not want to downgrade the wonderful King's Singers, it's just that , having recorded a lot myself, the edits and sound effect are pretty obvious to me.
@MyMusic0201 Yah your right and the soloist part. But these guys can actually do this with perfect pitch anyways...like legitimate perfect pitch...and depending on the hall...it would sound a lot LIKE this...I do a little recording myself
@MyMusic0201 they record all of their albums in empty concert halls, which greatly enhances the echo effect. That plus a really nice solo mic will get you this kind of sound. No doubt there's probably some reverb added, but there are no structural changes to the sound, the singers would never go for that! they usually never even use mics in performance if they can help it.
I'm currently learning the tenor part of several songs by The King's Singers (meaning their ARRANGEMENTS), and this is one them. Simply wonderful! A practically lost art these days.
This is one of the greatest songs ever. Just listen to the harmony there are some trully beutiful accords. Those who dont get goosebumps listening to this music are tonedeff. Not that they dont like music. They just dont respect and aknowledge a great song when they here it.
Simply amazing, we are doing this piece right now for choir at Vancouver Collegium Musicum. This is just amazing, the harmony, everything! It just strikes your heart like BAM!
@TheEmmaii ... i dont really think you know what you are talking about, most people that dont like this kind of music, do not have any knowledge in music... therefor ... they *technically* dont know music .... spiderspider8 is right ... you are wrong ...
Hm.. If you say so. Let me try and explain again.... People who say that if some people dont like this song, they dont like music.... Wouldn't that be like saying "If you don't like chocolate then you have no taste in junk food"? Am I not right? Just Saying, BTW. :)
@spiderspider8 If you think you are both the last bastion and final arbiter of musical taste, not only don't you know music ... you don't know people and don't believe they should be free to form any opinion in variance to yours ... I would suggest you don't know life at all - but considering you are only 8 years old, you will probably learn to be more accepting as you grow older.
@damens I have been studying music for a long time and I respect every musical genre for what it is, expecially when you take the time to look at the musical theory behind it. Sometimes It is supprising to see how musicians of all generas and ages shape their music... I am not an eight year old, and I think that the fact that you think you can "suggest I dont know Life at all" is an unfair and Ignorant observation. I dont know how you can take my statement and believe you are somehow above me.
Beautiful. Tho as a singer of this style myself I'll admit it's comforting to know that even the vaunted King's Singers have trouble staying on pitch! (they wind up somewhere between a quarter and a semi-tone sharp--which is much better than going the other way). :-D
Eric Alatorre of Chanticleer can fill a large room with his low C, sans mic...in a forte section of 16-part Gabrieli texture. It's really quite remarkable. Russian groups like Chorovaya have lots of pedal-tone specialists too.
Download it, load it into a DAW suite (as I did) and loop the end to the beginning, or check it with a pitch plug-in. It ends a good 30 cents sharp of where it began.
it's kay though. they're still great haha. it's 3 minutes with no one to play off of but themselves. They're probably pushing the pitch up to keep from going flat, so it's understandable.
Oh, absolutely. I'd never even have noticed if I hadn't been trying to loop the audio for a project of my own. It's lazy, unsupported singers who go flat--it takes real concentration and effort to actually go sharp! :-D
Honestly, I've no interest in disparaging the King's Singers; it's just nice to know that one's heroes are human too, and have to work at things sometimes.
The song is great. I'd have to completely disagree with breaux2000 though. The series has so many deep complications between the two brothers that I think it fits perfectly. -Favorited-
Don't take my comment serious I just said that because I don't know how the clip relates to the song cuz I haven't seen the show b4. Lol!!! 4 all I know ur probly right.
Hahah.... man, you gotta get out more! There's a million videos on youtube of some of the most unholy basses on the planet. My personal favorite bass of all time is Richard Sterban of the Oak Ridge Boys. I've heard people sing lower, but nobody with his resonance and power. Check out this for examply.... it's a live recording of the ORB performing and Sterban hits the pedal G (a perfect fouth below low C) around 2:20. It's youtube video: watch?v=w_WVvViDdaM
Great, the guy can sing the note. Truth is, it sounds like a really disgusting belch. This is an exquisite low C which not only carries quite well (without mics), but sounds exquisite.
this is the most beautiful song... sung by anyone, it's wonderful. by the king's singers, i get chills and i start to cry. they are the epitome of perfection.
There is this A'Capella band by the name of 'Groove For thought" . The kings version is pretty good, but just check out GTF's version. They're really stunning. And I personally like it better.
I was blessed enough to sing with the King's Singers, and did this very song with them a few years ago. They are an AMAZING group, and this song is insanely good!! There is nothing that the King's Singers touch that doesn't turn to gold.
Interesting that you end with wanting credits for yourself, but no mention at all of the talented King singers group who makes this presentation work brilliantly. Credits should go to the singers, not the person who "borrowed" the video and put it on youtube.
we did this arrangement with our youth-choir. i never heard the "original" King's singers version. this is unbelievable good. got me tears in my eyes...
I know what you mean... if you're not used to the timbre of adult male counter tenors and their speldidly, completely perfect blend and harmony, it sounds, well... PERFECT! Almost inhumanly so... you should see them live! It's such an amazing experience :-)
2:36 pro.

Check out this for examply.... it's a live recording of the ORB performing and Sterban hits the pedal G (a perfect fouth below low C) around 2:20. It's youtube video: watch?v=w_WVvViDdaM
Enjoy!

Woow you're right! He's singing a low G‼ That's unbelievable..
saschamuecke 2 years ago
Great, the guy can sing the note. Truth is, it sounds like a really disgusting belch. This is an exquisite low C which not only carries quite well (without mics), but sounds exquisite.
ged424 2 years ago
He has a mic tho, although its already outstanding, but i bet he wont be able to project without a mic.

And again at the end :) I love Stephen's bass :D

There is this A'Capella band by the name of 'Groove For thought" . The kings version is pretty good, but just check out GTF's version. They're really stunning. And I personally like it better.

I was blessed enough to sing with the King's Singers, and did this very song with them a few years ago. They are an AMAZING group, and this song is insanely good!! There is nothing that the King's Singers touch that doesn't turn to gold.

What is the relevance betweenthe music and the video? I ask because I don't know the show the video came from....
Woundtootight 3 years ago
The King Singers . . . are the most incredible, fabulous group of singers out there. They are everything any true musician wants to be.
Love this song. Love this group. Like this show.
SilverIlly 3 years ago
Interesting that you end with wanting credits for yourself, but no mention at all of the talented King singers group who makes this presentation work brilliantly. Credits should go to the singers, not the person who "borrowed" the video and put it on youtube.

this sounds like MIDI voice... is that possible to put the lyrics in like that? It really sounds electronic
nanoquaver 3 years ago
that is really the king's singers! not midi.

I know what you mean... if you're not used to the timbre of adult male counter tenors and their speldidly, completely perfect blend and harmony, it sounds, well... PERFECT! Almost inhumanly so... you should see them live! It's such an amazing experience :-)

luv it...we r singing this with our choir ensemble...
i was on a concert 4 days ago...it was..AMAZING...it was in a very big church...the sound was breathtaking... *goose bumps*
