  • This is why I have a Honda not mutch engine problems.. and I have a 1983 XR 200!!

  • @JamesR3d Yeah Honda's are much better, I bought a Honda after this bike went :)

  • 1:33 <<<<< and thats your problem, old bike dude PS whens the next sr125 vid coming ??

  • IF YOU NEED TO HOLD IT ON FULL THROTTLE, YOU NEED A MORE POWERFUL ENGINE...

  • @ismokewead420 Redline for a good time! :)

  • @gpzDave REDLINE FOR A GOOD TIME!!!

  • i like the vids and im not trying to be a prick be I deffinately wouldnt pin the motor for very long in anything, not even my tough old quad ( which is a kawie )

  • You have an extremely thick accent.

  • Hey! I am having exactly the same problem now...Its really upsetting to hear it dyeing on me :( I was wondering if you sorted the problem and if so HOW????

I really REALLY need my bike back! :S

    Thanks

    Cassiex

  • @cfaasyse Hi I'm afraid that I sold the bike a few weeks ago, I still hadn't got around to solving the problem. If I was to fix it I would have needed to strip the engine down completely, or replace the engine. But are you sure that your engine is that bad? Sometimes an engine can sound bad, but not have too serious a problem.

    Cheers, Dave.

  • the oil pump drive on the gpz305 is nylon and prone to wear and shearing......it was running ok till you put that fuel additive in lol !

  • @MrLaydownsally Haha no no the fuel additive helped, but not with the lubrication ;) Now I know about that stupid nylon cog in the engine, what were Kawasaki thinking!!! :0

  • My Gpz 305 is 22 years old with 88,001km on it and it’s never had a rebuild, I know the guy who had it since he bought it, he always thrashed it because he was waiting for it to crock, but it never did, so that’s how I got it, it runs smooth and pure. Fixed the valves, Good compression, spark still strong and it’s just a really good simple bike.

  • @razorwre Hi mate, I did like this bike a lot... until the big ends went. Even so, if I had the time I would have rebuilt it, the rest of the engine was fine as far as I know.

  • The bike is what, 27 yrs old? Try pushin' your grandma to redline and see what happens...

  • I bet it is a lubrication problem. Either not changing the oil enough or pour quality oil or a clogged oil line.. My first bike was a Kawasaki 350 triple ( I guess that showed how old I am.). But now I ride Hondas. Currently I have an 1800 VTX and love it. It's not a knee dragger but I am a lot older now.

  • @sanity599 Hey mate, I changed the oil and filter about 500 miles before the trackday, and it was Valvoline oil so pretty decent quality. These engines were notorious for the oil pump letting go or the pre-pump gauze can clog easily. I also now ride a Honda! :) An SLR 650, a lovely torquey single cylinder. And Honda know how to build engines, they last forever!

    Take care, Dave.

  • u mnie to samo :(

  • Push a 305 engine hard, a lot, and you get what you get..and it ain't always good, unfortunately. Yoo want to push hard or carry a passenger on the highway, you need a biiger bike. I ride a restored 84 GPz 750 and that thing is a rocket and stone cold reliable. I do all my own work on it, keep it pristine and run only Shell Rotella oil. I got it with 28,000km on it, now has 46,000 and purrs like a kitten.

As allready mentioned, its all on how you treat a bike and look after it.

  • The 305 was a decent motor, but 45,000 miles on a 305 cc engine can be a lot, depending on how it was ridden. Unless you race it, no engine should be pushed to redline or driven at constantly...period. Racers have the luxery of rebuilds after every race, we do not.

Also the aotumatic cam chain tensioners were crap. They caused all kinds of damge to the old Kawi air cooled engines. Plus you have to keep up on oil chages, valve adjustment and carb syncs.

  • @simplybeadifuldesign It's true but I reckon a Honda would have taken it without damage, a friend on a CB500 was there and it's still totally functional. Don't get me wrong mate I love my bike and look after it well but I still think it shouldn't have blown up.

  • i had a gpz 305 back in 1995 lets say one thing about it not the best bike to own. i did everything too it wireing timing chain.it was the only bike i did not miss.

  • that engine noise is not a big deal, since u "know" alot about these things u should have no problem fixing probably a dropped valve? and dont blame kawasaki for this, no engine should be redlined unless your ready to do a rebuild aftr every race. but u shoud "know" this right?

  • @04mxz440 It's not a dropped valve, performance is still as good as it was prior to the increased noise. And no I'm afraid it is Kawasaki's fault, I'm not sure who told you that you can't redline an engine regularly without rebuilds as that is not the case. I can say that as a friend of mine was there on a Honda, thrashing the guts out the thing and it is no worse atall.

  • Dont blame the engine. My brothers zzr (same engine) has done 80,000 ks and runs like a breeze. It all comes down to maintenance. Whens the last time you flushed the coolant system?

  • @brendonv101 errrrr..... its air cooled :D

  • @brendonv101 Lol, thats right mate! Probably hasnt even cleaned his injectors or upgraded the firmware for the EFI. Bet he is still running the factory headlight fluid too! Gotta change your headlight fluid every 50,000kms or it will over heat and throw a rod.

  • It's sad when things like this happens, but you can fix it yourself pretty cheap, most people would have to use a workshop.

  • @kiarra00 yeah, it would cost hundreds of pounds if I was to get someone to fix it for me. Knowing a bit about engines really can save you money.

  • Great vid, mate! 5 stars.

  • Or it hadnt been maintained correctly so the engine would not last as long. 45000 is quite a bit for a bike to be honest. It probably just needs a bottom end bearing and it should be fine.

  • @bev1806 yeah, I think its the bottom end. I have looked after it right, I put new oil and a filter in it only a month ago. Owners before me on the other hand...
