please can you download the movie, i had before but i lost, is really dificult to get it, not all people now that exist this movie of the nutcracker of warner bros. Share with us please, was an accident i see this video and i recognize the movie!
This is SO beautiful, I can't believe it! Balanchine's choreography is marvelouuuuus!!!!!! So musical! The scenery is awesome too, it's like a movie! Wonderful performance !!!
@Marielena5058 I do love ballet indeed... you know, a snowflake, is by itself, white... so when a ballerina performs a snowflake, she can't be african... secondly, in a "white" ballet company, an african dancer is designed to stick out... that's what I mean by "question of aesthetics"
@nonnoricky Having watched this film for years and seen many American ballet companies over the years, I've never been bothered by seeing a black performer in the snowflake scene. If you find it unwatchable, it is a reflection of your own provincial hang-ups. After all, Balanchine's original Sugar Plum Fairy (Maria Talchief) was half Native American. And that was in 1954. Get over it.
P.S. I also love it when it's actually "snowing" on the stage- I realized that some companies' versions don't use snow at all, & some wait until toward the end to start sprinkling the stage w/ snow. Judging from this, NYCB employs the snow effect from the very beginning. Gorgeous.
I've enjoyed several different companies' versions of snow- but from what I've seen, NYCB's choreography may be the best. That Balanchine...wow.
Beautiful. Lately, this part of the ballet has sometimes brought tears to my eyes- don't know what's gotten into me b/c I'm generally not one to get "teary" over things like this (even if I recognize the beauty). I think a big part of it is Tchaikovsky's music- it evokes something out of me. Amazing how he was able to capture the purity & mood of a beautiful snowfall.
I watched several different versions of Nutcracker on TV recently, & found myself looking forward to the snow scene the most.
My God, I watched it so many times when I was a kid! Still love it!

The ice-blue lighting and crisp ensemble movement are sensational. One of the film's best moments.
