Personally I feel Chains was 50% Layne, and 50% Cantrell vocally. Any fan knows that. But the band will never be the same without Layne. The man was a powerhouse of raw,honest, expressed emotion. His life poured into every song with suicide, pain, addiction, and inner struggle. That is what real music is in a NUTSHELL. The artist trully expressing their demons and feelings through sounds and words. Nobody can replace Layne, and the greatest vocal cover I heard was Staind doing AIC songs.....
You are correct on that, Opeth is my 2nd favorite band next to Pink Floyd. But I really expected more from Opeth's cover. I thought they would make it their own but, they did it almost exact and I was left feeling a tad bit disappointed. I love all their other covers though. Expessially their Purple,Trower, Maiden, and Frost covers.

ive never heard them with the new singer but on 96.5 some dude for GnR was on there and a few other guys and they say they still sound relle good. BUT AIC isnt AIC without layne.

Correction: Layne wasn't Alice in Chains, he was a member, Without him AIC as we know it is not the same, however they are still AIC with a new singer.

Ya know what, I'm tired of people sticking up for this post Layne AIC. Why couldn't they have done what Led Zepp was going to do, Get all the original members together minus Robert Plant and start a new band under a different name. Layne kept Jerry's mainstream/douche-ness in check. And with out Layne, he is free to ruin a legacy. AIC IS FUCKING DEAD AND WE ALL MUST ACCEPT IT.

I was never the biggest AIC fan but I just discovered this song and think it's great. Encouraged me to get into more of their stuff, they're better than I first assumed (only listened to one album in the past). A real shame about what happened to Layne.

Alice In Chains shouldn't have replaced Layne with that black guy.
I find it a bit self-disrespectful of them to do, Layne can't be replaced.
They could have just used Jerry if they knew they were going to reform, he sang in most of the songs anyhow.
But Layne and Jerry's vocal harmonization = epic.
