Here's the deal the Behringer DJX 700 SUCKS! Not just the BPM counter. I had it & I thought I got a good deal for €300 cos it had 4 channels fx etc. 3 weeks after I got it the fx button got stuck down into the body, 1 of the channels stopped working, the knobs & faders felt cheap, the phono/line switches started coming apart & it had TERRIBLE sound. I'll never buy their stuff again. PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM BEHRINGER...THEY'RE CHEAP FOR A REASON! SAVE YOUR CASH & GET SOME QUALITY GEAR. Peace.
If you have the time, maybe another good way is to throw the track in question into an audio editor & look at the spectrum and place markers exactly in the middle of the beats then you'll have the exact values. You may need to round for values that might have false precision.
just to add to my last comment, if your having trouble counting beats for drum and bass try this. Ignore all the beats entirely, and count evenly between bars, use your imagination and listen for the *bang*. That bang at the end of a bar is going to be your guide. there are alot of extra beats in drum and bass that are confusing at times, but tempo is not reliant on the beats, listen between the mess of beats and you will see it is quite slow.
From my experience all BPM counters are useless at counting drum and bass, easiest thing to do is count the beats by ear for 15 seconds and multiply by 4. Which is not very useful for on the spot mixing, but rather used as a guide when putting together a set.
Drum and bass average bpm is around 80-100 bpm, so the behringer mixer was probobly right when it said it was roughly 80 bpm.
i have to disagree about behringer bpm counters there actaly quite good if you no how to use its all about matching both of them to the same numer mayby 136 on both of them then lock them by switching them onto the non active channel:)
using bpm counters is cheating lol what do you call pre listning to a tarack b4 a crowd hears it imagine your playing cards and i look at your hand b4 i give you them im always gona win lol do not pre listen then you can claim to be good:)
hey, to all of the behringer user, here´s a tip for you, do not pay attention to the numbers the mixer is showing, but look at the green led, cause when the songs are sync or getting closer to be sync, the green led flash together on both channels so hope i could be on some help for you :)
I hpe you read the Behringer manual, and understand that Behringer mixer's cannot calculate anything more or less than 70-160BPM's! -so on faster tracks, like Drum & Bass, that are over 160, it will input half of that, and thats why you get such a slow reading, like 88 or 89.
yea i just use mixmeister. it seems to be SPOT ON every time, so i'm sticking to it. i just write the bpm on a little laber and stick it to the record cover after i find out
Think those bpm counters are never accurate in piece of eq, counting by your self is best way even tho they might not be accurate unless you count the full minute. Think ellaskin had couple of good videos on how to count bpm on different type of musics.
omg! hehe another person who likes original old Ministry! Have you seen the old Ministry videos here? I like both old and new Ministry. Al J. hates it though lol. I don't see why, I mean back then that was the style it was the 80s.
I never understood why he would dislike his early work. What I've always liked about Ministry is that every album is totally different. Al is cool like that. He seemed to have a lot to share and didn't waste too much time with one sound. Always wish he would have done one more album like "Twitch" though.
I also have a djx700 and to be honest with you, it sucks!! not only that but confuse me all the time with the bmp...I just cover the digital numbers :)
First off I'm loving your videos, Brian they are great.
Awesome Ministry toon they were so good in there earlier days.
I find my BPM counters on my Denon decks quit a bit off too.(How about your Denon decks?) But if you want a mixer with the closest BPM counters you can't go wrong with the Pioneers.
My Denons are hit or miss as well. I've found it's always best to check your math. I was hoping the BPM counters on the Denon DX1500 were better than on the CD units themselves. Probibly not
I'm not sure if mine is building or not. It only shows a build when I unplug the unit. So far, every Billy Joel song I have seems to have a value of 320 BPM in Serato. HA!
Yeah, it does mess up on a lot of rock songs. BUT, for dance tracks, it is pretty good. To build overviews, disconnect the hardware and then click "build Overviews".
And about the counter, normally in DnB it will be half of what the song is for real because it picks up on the high's which are half as often and the bass (you know that) It was prob something from 172-180 based off of all the diff numbers you were getting there. =)

well, BPM counters suck, even on Pioneers. My advice: put your pitch to the max, and slow it down till it sounds as one beat, thats the easiest way

yeh that helped but for even more acurate BPM counting you could count the beats for 30 seconds and just x2 whatever you get!!!!

The DJM line of mixers from Pioneer are incredible when it comes to BPM counters. Kind of pricey units but they make up for it with the features.

i find that when counting DnB its very fast so i tend to count every second beat, not as sopt on as counting every beat but its still good.
pratice and enjoy :D

Usually, I do it with a digital kitchen timer, it's a bit more accurate than the wall clock :)

When you build overviews in Serato, it will count the bpm. I find that it is pretty accurate.

It keeps shutting down and giving me errors when I unplug the hardware and try to build overviews. Any idea what may be wrong there?
briansredd 5 years ago
Hmm...I dunno why that is happening. I've never had any problems like that. Contact Serato, they will probably be able to get your problem solved.

Yeah, I'll have a chat with the rep at the clinique on April 4th. We'll see what he has to say about that.
