Ric Flair was always bigger than NWA / the territories or Japan. He made every tv show, bingo hall, armory gym and ball park into an event and made himself a real superstar without Vince jr.
@bettydaw1970 OK Mick IS good. Very passionate but Mick is sometimes too goofy for my liking and he loses the seriousness. Ric NEVER waivers on professional wrestling being the greatest sport in the world, not once, that separates the good from the great.
I never knew which was better: the wrestling feuds or Ric Flair cutting a promo.. I watched a whole episode of wrestling one time. The whole show was ok..Flair come out the last 8 minutes, cut a promo for damn near 6minutes and seemed like I had just watched a world title match
I thought The Rock and Austin were very good on the mic as well as Shawn Michaels. But when i watch old Flair videos like this it reminds me why he was the best of them all at cutting promos.
when flair was in the wwe. he worked with jobbers who got a push , made no money for vince and were fired by vince. ric got paid really good money to do charity work for vince. in other words flair worked with nobdies compared to the talent in the 80's.
ric flair just cut an awesome promo for his match this weekend against jay lethal. so i was just cruising some of his older ones. the man still has it today. it was the best promo i've heard in at least a month and with the amount of wrestling iwatch thats saying something... brother!
@GBev2K Yes, but do you think he gave the dirtiest player in the game any moustache rides? I mean you've heard the stories. You know how sick these wrestlers are when they get good and drunk and fucked up.
Flair is the best professional wrestler of all time. And I loved how he always had his own "amen corner" when he was on TV. Listen and you can hear some guy with a deep voice in the background sayin "Yea!!" and "That's right!!" nearly every time RF paused. Just too cool for school!!!
Thats Right!.....Thats Right Ric!! That guy in the background yelling that towards the end of the video got as pumped as I did watching this. Ric Flair = The G.O.A.T!
Jesus Christ, Flair's promos are HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE. This man is the yardstick where all wrestlers should be measured. It's so sad how the art of "the promo" has been lost among wrestling. Flair and Jake Roberts were fucking MASTERS at their craft.
No kidding! i have and old 1980's vid when Kerry Von Erich beat him for the belt and the camera pans in and he calls all the Von Erich brothers in the ring and tells them "Remember this and tell your old man. YOU AINT SEEN THE LAST OF RIC FLAIR" i didnt think it was the truth! LOL
@DocLeggz About 30 more yrs. Hes not stupid he knew a Gold Mine when he had it in his lap. Dont he still come on and announce on WWE sometimes. I dont have a TV so I have no idea.
@scumgod13 Actually, he still comes on and wrestles on TNA occassionaly and he's a big part of AJ Styles' storyline right now. So, yeah, Nature Boy is still banking.
@scumgod13 Actually, he still comes on and wrestles on TNA occassionaly and he's a big part of AJ Styles' storyline right now. So, yeah, Nature Boy is still banking.
@jonnymack The only person that could ever do a promo as good as Flair is Roddy Piper. Thats my opinion but Flair himself admitted it during an interview.
Oh, it was on that show Off the record that hes watching a promo of himself and he says Hulk Hogan couldnt do that,he named a few others that couldnt but then said Roddy Piper could. I thought it was cool cause Piper is one of my favorites and hes basically the only one that Flair didnt trash in the whole interview.
@jonnymack I hate how everybody says that. Back then, you had freedom to say what you wanted to. Nowadays, wrestlers have writers write them their stuff. I'm sure there are many wrestlers with natural charisma that could pull off great promos.
@RubberClits maybe....but we'll never know. Chris Jericho is someone who makes me stop and watch but other than that who is there? If someone really had that charisma believe me Vince would let them run. All we have to go on is what's on tape, and the tape says there is nobody that can cut promos like this on the WWE's roster right now.
If I was a mid-carder back in the 80's I would probably beg him to mention me in a promo just so I could get the rub. That's how good he was, just mentioning someone gives them credibiltiy.
I'm having the chance to watch some old AWA matches, and seen Wahoo McDaniels and Manny Fenandez wrestle, I recognize those names because Flair said their names in his promos! WOOOOOO
@bobber316 Harley Race said he could do it for a time, but Flair could even do it today, take anyone, take any stiff, take any non wrestler, and still make it look like a good match between them. Ric could wrestle a broom and still put on a 5 star match. On the mic the bad actors who read scripts today can't hold a candle to him.
Ric Flair is in a class by himself. he loves wrestling that's why he's still around after all of these years. He still has the ability to wooo everybody. Just when you're feeling sorry for him (like in recent years) all of a sudden he reminds you why he is the dirtiest player in the game (when he aligned with Triple H in '02) and many wrestlers will shoot on that. The Horsemen were untochable in these days, truthfully. Too bad Ole hates Ric and Tully, they were the very best faction ever.
This was probably late 1985 after Starrcade. Flair and Garvin had an awesome stiff match on WTBS. They fueded until early 86 before Flair turned Ricky Morton into a singles star with a classic fued and five star broadways. Magnum just beat Tully at Starrcade in the ultra classic I Quit match and won the US title again. He had a very brief fued with a returning Harley Race before he and Dusty fueded with the Midnight Express and Nikita Koloff. Magum's car accident was in October 1986.
Epic promo from The Man. Why can't wresting be good today? If it wasn't for YT a lot of the great footage from Mid Atlantic, Memphis, Georgia, Mid South, etc. would never be seen. The ass hats that are today's wrestlers need to sit down with pencil / paper and learn something. The product today sucks.
Garvin beat him for the title a few years after this. This has to be 1985 or very early 1986 as Flair still has the old NWA title and he mentioned the Von Erich's which he would do often while they were still in the NWA.
Absolutely the best wrestler/entertainer. love the line...Don't put that camera on those girls when I'm on tv. Keep that picture on me man. He looked so serious. Absolutely a genius at ad libbing. At the end, he is laughing too hard to continue. Either he recognized how funny that line was or the guy behind the camera was laughing uncontrollably.
I don't think anyone should try to be ric flair...I mean that's like comparing kobe to jordan...or crosby to gretsky..I mean times change but the true innovaters always shine brighter than the rest, like right now randy orton, he is becoming one of the best heel characters I have seen ever and I can't wait to see how he works his way back to the belt
the difference is EVERYTHING the boys do today is scripted from how the come out, to every line they say, to whatever else you can think of. nothing gets done unless its written by the team and approved by vince.
youll never see freestyle interviews like this anymore....
Flair was ' the man '. His interviews and promos in his prime were outstanding. Ric Flair is truly legend. I am glad to have witnessed Flair and the Horsemen in their prime years.
That's not entirely true. How do you explain his working guys like Ron Garvin and a very green Sting, or Lex Luger? For every great wrestler Flair worked against there are a handful of brooms he had to work against, too.
He didn't work Ron Garvin at all; Ron Garvin has been wrestling since the 1960's, way before Flair came along. You are absolutely correct about Sting. If it wasn't for Flair, Sting might not have ever gotten a shot at the title. You sound like you know a little about wrestling; I like talking with people who are smart about wrestling, and ones who can give good insights on other wrestlers. I wish that Luger's career didn't hit rock bottom; He could have been a true legend in this sport.

He is great because of his talking and making other wrestlers look good.

You'd have to be an idiot to not like the man nowadays. I hated him growing up.
