not to get you sublime fans all riled up but most of sublime's material borrows from rock history whether it's the 60s garage rock or 80s punk. hell, the drum beat in "get out" is simply just the begining of a minutemen song played over and over throughout the track.
The Witch - The Sonics [Tacoma, Washington] - 1965 - "AMG pick. Would become a regional hit, receiving extensive airplay on the powerful Seattle AM station KJR, but the Sonics would never break nationally." - Here Are The Sonics (Norton)-1999.
@diehlam Brad had notoriously good taste in music and the fact that us sublime fans have ended up here shows there some underlying logic linking the two. the true spirit of authentic punk perhaps? or maybe just one band ripping off another?
@diehlam now we know who influenced Sublime and unfortunately the idea was only recreation of the past ... But instead of comparing, let's listen. ahaaa!
@acoug - yeah, that's not goin' to happen, i've contacted loads of garage musicians via the net over the last few years, i generally find them cool...i've been a bit lax here lately, but i've put a lot more effort into videos and bigging them all up generally than i ever get out of it...bit of satisfaction, that's about it.
I almost broke my neck doing the Frug (that was a dance back then, kids_-_) at my..?? 11th year birthday party... still consider this vocal unquestionably the best raw screaming ever.. after 35 years in the music business... thank you for posting!! my oringinal is loooong gone.. too bad... wish I still had that huge stack of 45s....
And yes I have the orignal 45 on etiquette too....I bought the record back when it was released when I lived outside of Seattle....a very long time ago!!!!! LOL
I concur and enjoyed reading most all of the comments posted here by my fellow pacific northwesterners. We lived in a musically blessed region, and Pat O'day was THE MAN! I still have my Kingsmen and Wailers autographed albums an 45's-someone can pry them from my cold dead hand someday. Maybe.
Want some more Pacific Northwest Rock from back then that's truly GREAT?? Type in "Out of Our Tree" by the Wailers (NOT Bob Marley!) and give it a LISTEN!! Another Pacific Northwest band that didn't get the airtime it deserved.
I do agree - there were a bunch of good bands from the NW - Even here in Oregon, I used to listen to KJR at night, one name that comes to my mind is Pat ODay... one of my treasures from the 60s is an album, something like KJR Presents - was a collection of songs that I happened to really like - thanks for bringing back so many cool memories
I also listened to the Portland Stations too. I was north of you on the coast in Aberdeen. I have a Viceroys album with a full side acknowledgement by Pat O'Day. Remember the Viceroys song "Granny's Pad"?? Portland also had a band called Don and the Goodtimes Remember them? One of their members finally got to join Paul Revere and the Raiders...(another GREAT Pacific NorthWest Rock Band!!)
I've lived in western Oregon since I was 10, now 56, a few miles south of Eugene. Not only was KJR a station I remember hearing, but also KOL - I was very interested in AM radio as a teen, I would send reception reports to stations and get a QSL card in return verifying reception, I have some of them still, and found the one from KOL earlier today.
I do remember Don and the Goodtimes, I always really liked their song Little Sally Tease, my sister was crazy about Raiders and Mark Lindsay
i've messed about with it and altered colours and that but it's a clip from a relatively obscure but excellent late sixties british film called the touchables......i dont think it's had an official dvd issue, someone copied a video for me ages ago.....could do with a proper release.
Now, you know the score 'cause i set you straight Well, you better be careful Before it's too late She gonna make you itch 'cause she's the witch Solo Well, she walks around late at night Among startled people sleepin' tight If you hear her knocking on your door You better sneakin´away
The Sonics,& The Sloths are two reunions that work!
