  • Cody Stacy Hi!

What a mash up of what is most obviously a lovely part of the world! I have seen only the aftermath of flash floods so have witnessed the awful sense of loss of the populace involved, the stench and the un-hygenic situaution that exists for awhile to come. Communities do re-build and do recover for we are very good at overcoming adversity. Thank you for sharing your terrifying situation in a very good montage video All the best for the future to you, your family and your neighbours

  • Sorry to see that happen, I have been going to gilbert for the last 3 years, never met a person there that was not a friend. They always say only bad things happen to good people..... Aberdeen OH

  • I work with a couple of guys that live in that area. Well, one is originally from Gilbert Creek, but lives in Pocahontas, Va now. Good luck in the rebuilding. The one guy I work with said his bridge washed out, and he was told he couldn't get any help with rebuilding it.

  • Hey Cody, I'm from Beech Creek and also lived in Matewan. Left there many years ago, but I remember the '77 flood and it was a nightmare. My parents walked across a muddy mountain with the water roaring in the road below. I fell once, but they both had me by the hand so I wouldn't go down into the water.

  • Cody Thank you for these pictures. I did not realize how bad things were in W Virginia. We had a flood in NH a couple of years ago and we lost lives but this damage is worse than ours.

  • Cody - Great job with filming the flood. We are from Pa and are concerned with Fox's. We ALWAYS stay with the Fox's and love those people. Hope they are all safe. Our hearts go out to everyone in Gilbert and all that were hit by the flood waters. Our prayers go out to you. Coming down in late June !

  • Good job, Cody. I live in Ellis Bottom/middle of Gilbert. I like what you did with this--keep up the good work.

  • a really good viedo show natural disasters

  • Hi Cody, I am from southern WV, living in NC. So sorry for all the trouble with flooding and bad weather. I recall my youth hearing my great grandfather talk about the strip mines cutting all the timbers. He believed these things would happen and I believe he was right. May God bless everyone and I pray all recover quickly. Love this beautiful song and music. Thanks for sharing and God bless you..

  • I'm from Colorado but am originally from Ikes Fork/Iaeger WV and still have relatives from all the areas including Gilbert. I pray everyone is getting through this! Also....who did the song? Love it and it was so appropriate!

  • I am Nashville but my mom and dad are from Willamson and Turkey Creek. Alot of my family went through the flood in the late 70's. My Mom spent 2 weeks helping my grandparents clean up what they could salvage. My sister's in laws are coming from Kansas City to help in Matewan. God Bless you Mountaineers.

  • one of my close friends i game with was caught in this, i wish you and yours the best in the recovery.

  • Hope things are getting better. A good friend of mine owns some rental cabins up there, his basement was flooded and he was telling me of the flooding in the parking lot of the shopping mall near there. OH BY THE WAY, where the H*** is Prezzie Obama and FEMA?? Guess the wonderful people of West Virginia aren't as important as the folks from New Orleans. God bless you WV

  • Obama was the same place Prezzie Bush and FEMA were when New Orleans happened. President Bush just wanted a photo op and FEMA was in itself a disaster during New Orleans!!! WV and New Orleans as well as Iowa and other midwest states are when it comes to disaster...people and churches help, not our government...period!

  • God Bless you all from Big Chimney WV.

  • where did you get this song? it is great

    from: Chicago

  • Im from NC but my grandma lives in hanover and some of the pics you have show how far up that creek was in her back yard i would have never thought it would get that high. My hopes and prayers go out to all of those affected by the flood waters.

  • Hello Cody!

First of all, I would like to say how much I've enjoyed visiting Gilbert. WV for the October Trailfest for the past 4 years. Gilbert is such a welcoming place filled with good people, which is why my family and I need to help you.

I'm a senior in high school and my brother and I are collecting bags and bags of clothing donations from our schools that you will be receiving within the next 2 weeks. This is the least that we can do for such a warm and welcoming town.

  • Thanks !

  • I am from Mason County living in Sumter, SC. I am praying for all the people back there. I know how we West Virginians are and everyone will pull together and recover from this disaster. I may be gone from my home state, but I am always proud of the people and the heritage that makes us all Mountaineers. God bless everyone there.

    Gary Cundiff

  • I am from Punxsutawney Pa and we live in a flood area. Me and my husband came there to get married and ride the trails. We fell in love w/it and want to come and live there someday. We are so sorry! I know alot of the houses are across these small streams and ppl are trapped! Our thoughts and prayers are w/you.You are the strongest ppl in this country and you will rise above this and move on. With love, Keith and Barbara Salapek

  • im from logan wv we got bad floods in the past also, i know first hand what the people are going through

  • heyy, im from Maryland. but every spring for the past 6 years my family goes to Gilbert to ride the trails. we stay on browning fork road. a couple of these pictures look like they are on browning fork road. i agree with 86Penny "My heart and prayers go out to everyone. God bless "

  • My heart and prayers go out to everyone. God bless

  • I have lived in WV all my life, I was raised in Oceana and hung out around Gilbert and Hanover alot of the time. The flooding occured because there was alot of rain that fell in a real short time and it had nowhere to go. That's what happens when the ground can't hold anymore water, not mining. Coal mining is the livelyhood of this state, without it this state and the people can't exist. Give this floods because of mining crap a rest!!! WV people are strong and tough, WE WILL SURVIVE THIS!!

  • thats a really bad flood i hope you guys in west virginia fix it and everybody is safe...i have a friend in the red cross volunteers that is going down there at this very moment to help all of the people out. i used to live in kentucky but now i live in ohio ...i hope everything works out ok and this should show people like us to be greattful they dont get floods often at all!!!

HELP IS ON THE WAY!!! AND WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU HERE IN HURON OHIO!!!

  • Thanks For Video I Graduated Class 1957 From Man Now Live In Columbus Ohio

  • Im from Delbarton,WV in Mingo county and we got hit bad too

  • My sympathy is with everyone who had loss , i cant imagine what that would be like trying to recover , I am ashamed of my fellow man tho to come on here and start blaming this on mining , dont u people realize flooding occurs where there is no mining , shame on you , instaed of blaming why dont you offer assistance .

  • I am from Springfield, MO. Gilbert was my home for 17 years. Thanks for the video so I can see what my brother told me by phone. Linda Lowe Wallington

  • I am from Kingsport, Tn my name is Rene'e. I have never seen such distruction. I just got home from Gilbert . I was attending my uncle's funeral (Bucky Belcher). My family was born and raise in this area. God's knows he would be right in the middle helping everyone he could. He will be so very missed. To anyone who could help this small town of wonderful people with prayers, help, hope or donations know that they are in need of all.

  • I was horrified when I saw the devastation! My prayers go out to everyone in Mingo area. 6 in. of rain contributed, but obviously strip mining and poor engineering of the Red Jacket highway were to blame. Small saplings the mines mollify environmentalists with have nothing on the original plants, which were the original plan of God. These mountains did not just happen, they were created with a natural flow for the waters, perfect in the eyes of God and not meant to be desecrated by man's greed!

  • Hi I'm from Chapmanville WV. Thank You for Showing this I pray it opens up the hearts of humanity and You all will be back on your feet again. My family and I too have went through this a couple of years back . God Bless You All . Thank You Cody (Barb in C-VILLE
