  • A sad day in British history...

I (like many) cried when I watched this live... I don't think there was a single household that didn't watch this...

    It's 2010 now... and I'm nearly crying again! T.T

  • I still weep. The world needs someome like her. May she rest in peace!

  • Mirando a Charles solo puedo sentir desprecio hacia el; Diana sufrio mucho en su matrimonio con la infidelidad de este sujeto.

  • I cried too when I first watched it live. We awoke very early to watch the funeral here in the United States.

  • I am humbled to my Queen of Hearts. My land shall be ruled with you and Queens who passed. England shall shine within my dark Queen again.

  • Wasnt I Vow Thee to My Country played at her wedding?

  • @WDI2008

Yes, it was. She requested it.

  • It hurt so bad to see the William and Harry that day. they were saying good-bye to their mom. It made me cry.

  • Leeds0united is right Princess diana is of the stuarts blood the only reason Elizabeth is queen is because her Uncle chose love over kingdom

  • I was just starting my freshman year of H.S when this took place. n some ways this still hurts. A person who thought of others just not herself! all over the world to leave so suddenly and so young.

  • Purcell reigns.

  • I Vow To Thee My Country should be our national anthem

  • I do Agree with you !!! I'm not British, I'm from Canada ... but I think, that hymn is for much, better than the actual one!!!

  • @NottinghamForest22 i agree... the words are meaningful and I have always loved the melody..

no need to sing for the Queen... the only thing she would need saving from is the fires of.... ehem... nevermind. ... anyway... I loved the movie "The Queen"...it was so much fun seeing her get trumped every few minutes by the people's love for Diana

  • It seems like yesterday I was watching this on TV here in America. This song brings tears to my eyes, and I'm not even British.

  • i watched it when it first aired.i cried

  • I cried too!

  • Me too mate

  • I cried to. The loss of a Princess is to much.

  • @tribecatom As did I.

  • The Prince of Wales is a BIG BIG MAN AND A BIG BIG FATHER!!

For me the more important Prince of WORLD!

  • I remember watching this part of the funeral crying my eyes out especially when they started to sing "i vow to thee my country"

  • just the words of her favorite hymn are so prophetic and eerily true:

the love that never falters, the love that pays the price,

the love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

  • I do not know why i am so emotional to this. I am 16 and wasnt evan alive. But for some reason, i feel like i had a real connection to her. Im crying right now and i am a boy.

  • has it been that long since she passed? it seems like yesterday.....wait, you were 4!!! you were too alive. silly.

  • uhhm..yes you were alive when this funeral was...this was 1997. I'm 18 and was 7 years old at the time.

  • To admit you can cry makes you a man

  • can sumone send me a comment on who she was plz??

  • she certainly wouldn`t be HRH nor the King Mother,which is a non-existent title,idiot

  • had she lived during william's reign she would most likely be queen mother and knowing how close she was with her sons, they would brake tradition to make her royality on their terms

  • The ironic thing is she was the most royal one of the family. Her blood could be traced back to the Stuarts.

  • Yeii... She was more Royal than the Royals!!!!

  • We love you, Diana. We, the world.

  • This was the Church Of England at Her finest.

  • I can't watch all of this. It was too painful the first time. (I was in the hospital during the funeral.) I can feel my heart breaking all over again.

  • I really admire the courage of Diana's sons,Prince Wiilaim and Prince Harry.I don't know how they had the strength to do this.May God bless Diana.

  • Same I miss her too!!!!

  • those poor guys carrying the coffin!

  • I miss Princess Diana so much; May her rest in peace.

  • prachtige begravenis...nog steeds een brok in mijn keel.

    rip diana

  • luv her

  • i was 17 when she died , icried as did my mother. although she was princess, she was the true queen of england and everyone knew it.

  • RIP

  • I don't think she would have liked me, she really seemed to be a good Judge of Character !

  • I Know Her.... I Wha's In Her Funeral..... It Doesn't Cear, That I Am From Lithuania.,... I Came To Her Funeral Because I Respect Her... Rest In Peace Lady Diana... God save the Queen!

  • The pain of losing ones love,Is like an endless wound that never ceases.

  • The tune starts at 7:27

  • people die every day. the body is but a vessle.

  • i remember... i was crying lik a stupid!!! and i didnt even kno who is it!!! i was in grade 7.

  • princess diana was an amazing princess and kind i was only 4 when she died but i'm english and she was always kind and caring

    may she rest in peace

  • im asian but i do respect the british royal family...god save the queen!

  • God save the Queen! We need her to stay with us! I'm am an a American!

  • Long Live the King..... I'm English.

Type in on Youtube Elvis Presley long black Limousine....fits Dianas death perfect as it's a song about a car crash.

  • I said it before and I'll say it again! I had a dream on my birthday. I saw Diana in her casket. A few months later she was gone!

God rest her soul! A more lovely and considerate women this will never know!

  • i'll never ever forget this day ever.

  • me too...I remember my aunt running around the house letting everyone know about the accident..and I didn't realize the big deal back then, but my aunt made me watch the funeral in it's entirety live....I have never seen anything like it, it's still indescribable.....even as a 7 year old boy to be a part of this history, even then as I didn't know much about her, I still felt sad...and now I still remember and respect her and all she did.

  • i agree with yuh jonasfan. i hate camilla too.

wasnt prince charles like cheating the whole time.

  • No. He was in love with camilla but no cheating.

  • she wasnt an angel she wa doin herf job full stop.ans she might well still b alive if she was wearing her seatbelt

  • what an angel she was.

    I hate camilla.

  • She sure was and still is...

  • so so sad.heartbreaking.

  • she died tryin to outrun paperazzi in her car didnt she

  • Well it was her driver, a drunk man imposed on Diana by Mohammed Al Fayed, who was trying to do the outrunning and it was he who caused the crash. I think they found his Al Fayed organisation ID on him after they'd extracted him from the wreck.

  • damn

  • The driver was drunk!

  • its nauseating that Speilberg, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were even allowed to attend. Hollywood will do anything to make press. She was`nt friends with any of them. She was`nt speaking to Elton John at the time of her death.

  • She and Elton John reconciled a short time earlier at Gianni Versace's funeral in August and the reason that Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, and Nicole Kidman were present was because their names were in her address book and that was where many of the guests were drawn from.

  • How apt that the Princess should have the beautiful "I Vow To Thee My Country" sang. It should be our national anthem...and she should have been our next queen.

  • i have to commend those men who carried her coffin so well after walking for over an hour and a half. that is why our military is the best in the world

  • is it true that the coffin is lead lined, like all royals?it sure looked very heavy,as you say they did well.

  • Did Prince Charles do the sign of the cross when he laid the flowers down at 5:41 ? I thought they weren't catholic?

  • I don't think he does. The Royal Family is banned from being Catholic by the Act of Settlement of 1700.

  • Oh, it looked like he did to me. Huh.

    Really? Since 1700? Why?

  • Glorious Revolution, Battle of the Boyne and all that. Remember it was less than 200 years after the Reformation and religious intolerance was the done thing back then. Parliament, by then growing stronger while the Monarchy was becoming weaker, was dominated by Protestants who didn't want a Catholic monarch. The Act of Settlement was the result.

I read somewhere that the two conditions he had for a wife was she had to be virgin and protestant. Diana met those two conditions.

  • Ah! I see. Thanks for the history lesson. :P

  • Thats a disgrace that there cant be a catholic monarch or prime minister. How backward can you get. Britain is a great country and have given more to the modern world than any nation...but thats shameful.

  • It's a little more complicated than that. I agree that it shouldn't matter about the Prime Minister but the British Monarch is head of the Protestant Church of England, so has to be Protestant. Can you imagine having a Pope that wasn't Catholic?

  • Monarch is nominal head of the Church, the Primate is the Archish of Canterbury. I tend to regard him as being the 'Pope' figure in the C of E. I think we should have a head of state of any religion, better still we should have one who is elected by the British people and has achieved their station in life by merit rather than inheritance. The issue with the head of church thing just shows how unnecessarily divisive religion is.

  • A long standing distrust of Catholic structure in England is the main reason why. Quite simply, the Vatican has proved long ago that they cannot be trusted with complete power of government. Restricting & persecuting religious freedom, heavy taxation that goes to "the church", among many other problems. If a Monarch were to be Catholic, British laws would be changed to be based upon the Vatican's laws, and our Monarch would have to answer to the Pope.

    Hope this helps.

    God Save the Queen!

  • HRH the Prince of Wales did the sign of cross because the Anglican church has a Catholic Tradition. is legally for an anglican make the sign of cross

  • how terribly tragic

  • the music is so spine chillingly beautiful.

  • Elton John originally wrote the song about Marilyn Monroe. In the week after Princess Diana's death, he rewrote it for Princess Diana to sing at her funeral.

  • Slight sentence structure error there methinks.

  • does anyone know the song?

  • She passed away when I was eight, and even though I still didn't know who the heck she was the funeral made my eyes water up, now its super sad to watch it now after knowing the whole story of her life

  • I hope she did not die a painful death.

  • She wasn't Princess Diana. Full stop. During her marriage to Charles she was the Princess of Wales and a Royal Highness. After her divorce she ceased to be a member of the Royal Family and was no longer a princess or a royal highness. She was a commoner entitled to the style "Diana, Princess of Wales". Note the comma.

    Long live Queen Elizabeth II!!!

  • she did continue to be a member of the royal family after the divorce. The Queen decided she should be, being the future King's Mother.

  • she did continue to be a member of the royal family title or not because one day she would be Her Royal Highness Diana, The King Mother, but she died before William became king

  • William isn't king. It's been Queen Elizabeth for the past 50 odd years you dumbass!

  • what a lady

  • I saw a documentary of Diana's life, and there's a interview to one voluntarie and she said that one day, Diana was with a litle girl in her last days. And that litle girl, moments before she die, ask to voluntarie,"who was that angel". That litle girl thought that Diana was an angel...

Oh my God... Why? Why this person die so early? She could make so many great things to the world... :(

  • I was 5 years when Princess Diana dead. I remember the sadness and the tears, but I didn't understaind that feelings. Today, I can understaind that Diana's dead was a desaster to the world. Her smile and her love made many people believe.

I miss you Diana, Rest In Peace :'(

  • Now that's how you do a funeral

  • i was 5 when she died, and though i don't remember much of it, i do remember seeing william and harry and wondering why they were so sad!

never ceases to bring me to dears.

god bless you Diana, i truly do miss you.

  • Gosh, I can't believe this was almost 11 years ago. I remember where I was the night of her car accident and I remember getting up very early to watch her funeral. I was 22 at the time and was very sad about her death.

  • so many years later and seeing this still makes me feel like it was yesterday ... Diana you will always be missed.. you were truly "The People's Princess

  • these songs are songs of hope, the funeral is a reminder to all that death is not the end

  • I disagree. I think it's a celebration of the person's life.

  • I remember this too well, still make me so sad. Love you Diana.

  • rest in peace

  • i miss you darling diana. the world is empty without your smile and your love. may you rest in peace, my beautifull princess.

  • Masonry

  • it doesnt matter if she was royal or not. she was a remarkable woman and a true role model .

  • RIP Diana

  • A great funeral for a Great Woman.

  • im sorry but even if u were not a fan of any royal member u couldnt honestly say that this didnt make u cry or at least well up. the songs alone were eerie and sad. and the fact diana was the better looking royal who died and at the age she was was more shocking also

  • I cry every time I hear this song. It's weird coz im not really patriotic, its just something about that tune, I Vow To Thee My Country that gets me every time

  • When is the poisonous cloud of this appalling women going to be lifted from our country? She was a self-confessed adulterer and fornicator and if she had been Diana Spencer from Southend or some where like that she would have been labelled a TART!

  • Oh c'mon, she wasn't that bad!

  • As far as tarts go, Camilla is a mighty good example of one. And Charles is a self-confessed adulterer also! He admitted it on a televised interview.

  • why dont you do one, dont speak ill of the dead. or come to newcastle and i will burst your head open

  • yes that's the spirit...

  • she also helped a lot of people. Who's perfect?

  • Fornicator? Adulterer? She was a loving, compasionate human being with human frailties.

  • there was that ugly controversy , Princess or ?

The PR folks in Buckingham advised a funeral of state. How divine the windsor"s (intentional) are never a surprise!

  • Great music in contrast to that shocking piece of hackneyed rubbish sung by Elton John.

  • That could be said, but you can also think of Elton's performance as a farewell to the People's Princess.

  • You are right... A pop song like Elton John had no place in such place and at such moment...

  • it was Princess Dianas favourite song. There are often pop songs played at funerals, i think she would of liked it.

  • Princess Dianna was a close friend of Elton.

Do you know how hard it was for him to sing &

Play that song, also he changed two word 's in that song which was ENGLISH ROSE.

There are million's all over the world that loved such a Beautiful Princess like no other.

  • we was all nearly crying at this when i wached it

  • its we were...but thats sad anyways

  • i very very love i vow to thee my country

  • That would have been just too sad to be at, how could you keep your composure.

  • why was prince phillip walking with them? was there a reason?

  • Just because he was her former father-in-law and he's the grandfather of her two boys.

If you saw events at the Inquest just before Christmas, it was revealed the relationship between the two of them was perhaps warmer than many people had previously thought.

  • i was just 11 when she passed away and i'm from australia we all loved her i just wish that the press would leave her alone why can't they just let her rest in peace they have already killed her once what more do they want. RIP Diana

  • i think Paul Burrell is just a misguided individual, a bit simple, but i genuinly believed or believe he is doing no wrong,

what we think is just an opinion.

  • paul burrow did not decieve diana they adored each other and wot he did the queen ask im to thats a fact cuz wen it went to court they theatened to make her cum to court then she wrote a letter saying she new all bout it y she did nt say anything early i dnt no but he adored diana

  • paul burrell and any other loser who wants to try and make money out of this magnificent ladies death should go and get lives and consciences and proper respect for her

  • I don't think Paul Burrell betrayed her at all. All he's done is meet a public demand by giving a glowing account of her life and his role in it.

    Controversial, I know.

  • he has, she trusted him with secrets which she never wanted the public to find out. he betrayed that trust by writing all of those secrets down and selling them to make money!!!

  • yes, but he did this after she was dead. He's a miner's son; Diana had £17 million from her divorce and she got huge sums of tax payer's money for basically doing work that common people do for a fraction of the price.

I don't think you can fault him for wanting to make some money by meeting a public interest in his deceased boss.

His deceased boss would act to meet the public interest in her from time to time. Do the names Andrew Morton or Martin Bashir mean anything?

  • RIP Diana

  • if she was still alive, i bet shes gonna be a good queen and a leader and a mother

  • Diana you are still missed and still an inspiration...thank you, and thanks also to your blessed England, country of my ancestors and inspiration to my heart...may your light instill constant peace and love for all.

  • RIP Diana u will for all eternity be missed

  • RIP Diana

  • "mommy" that is soo sad

  • Does in fact say "mUmmy"... British version of the word.

  • Well im not British Im American and I feel as deeply saddened by this as u brits do..Dianna is a beautiful woman and she did alot of good know matter where she was...We all miss her and her kind spirit...RIP Dianna

  • the tears just poured down here... its been 10 years since and the emotion was just as strong as the first time

  • God save the Queen. God bless England. And may her royal highness, Diana, Princess of Wales, rest in peace in God's Kingdom.

  • God save the Queen and God Bless BRITAIN

  • she wasnt a royal when she died .

  • true, but she is a part of the royal family because she is the mother of the future king

  • i am crying so hard right now

  • why are you crying?

  • It's because we are British and we cry for our immense loss.

  • How beautiful and sad still. She was adored and still is, even in death. We will miss her terribly. Thank you for allowing us to be sad for her once again. Even after this time it's hard to let go.

  • almost 10 years later and this still hits soo hard. you will forever live on in the hearts of the world, the true Princess of hearts. rest in peace forever our beloved Princess Di...

  • you here this music at the church and this is very special moment and i cried the whole video

  • That music is great.. I've never heard anything so beautiful - I wish I understood what's being sung.

  • I love "I Vow to Thee My Country" such a great song, has to be sung with pride....if i didnt want land of hope and glory as the english anthem i would want this !

  • I will always remember her - I thank God that the Royal Family finally allowed the tribute that we all wanted for her and that her final wishes were followed.

  • WHat is the Tribute?
