haaaaaaaaaaa yeah!!Saw them at Benicassim, I left Brandom Flowers on main stage to sing and jump to this legend of band. They said "Enjoy the Strokes and didn´t praise any British band" it was kinda funny watching em on satge jumping on their fifties
Stop arguing - this is a great song in anyones' language - The Undertones were the best punk band ever - and I love SLF's and the Clash and the Pistols and the Members and the Buzzcocks , but I saw them all live and the 'Tones were the very best. And then Feargal sold out - effing wanker!!
This was supposedly in New York City after they signed with Sire. Fergal said one week they were in Derry and the next week they were in Manhattan. He said it was incredible and a real shock.
Why do so many people want the 'Tones to reunite with Sharkey???? Have you not SEEN how good they are with Paul McLoone. Nope, they can well do with out the pompous twat.
Saw them once, way back in the 80's in Arnhem...they were awesome. Fergal is an arrogant little prick, but boy, can he sing! And the band was really rocking and playing tight. If I'm correct they were also on Stiff Little Fingers label, which was a playground for enourmously talented bands back then. SLF as a label was quite small and independent, and dared what EMI refused to considder...bringing out good alternative music.
My favourite Undertones song, weirdly I only discovered it when it was covered on an advert for not speeding. Never seen it since though, does anyone else know the one I mean?
@Angusismyhero Yehh! I go to a college and we had a day dedicated being aware of the dangers of speeding and in the video of adverts they showed us, that was one of the adverts, i already knew the song and started singing it haha :)
Think the advert ends up with a car swerving into a tree right?
@irishcrusader99 That is exactly what happened to me, I think it was called Drive Alive? I wish I could find the video again though, yes the car does hit a tree, I think because the driver was distracted by his hot girlfriend?
sent this song streight to a girl i knew called jenny over facebook. she loved it but i don't think she got the message lol. ah well, better luck next time :P
@shoeboy59 he doesnt have the voice anymore. He had a unique voice, and well with old age and smoking , it kinda wrecked it :( Same with Debbie harry :/ Still tho, quality tune!
I saw these guys at Hemel Pavilion the first time they came over the the UK - I was 14 and my big brother sneaked me in . They were so fucking good...
Oh, man, I cannot believe someone has a live clip of this friggin' amazing song. Thanks for putting this up. Just sent a link of this to a gal in Oz who needs to hear this. L.W. if you are reading this I hope you like it, heheh :)
this takes me back , i was going out with an irish nurse living+working in Belfast called Heather in 1979 , i went over to stay with her (from Leeds i'd met her in Blackpool that summer ,ok too much information)and this, first of their albums, was hardly off the turntable in her flat almost all the time i was there, great memories , great album , great band , particularly in the early days
I could be nasty but I can't. Those two songs are so different even a tone deaf idiot could see the fundamental difference. They're both great songs in their own way but to compare them tonally is beyond me.
That's how I remember them. Five scruffs from Derry making fantastic music. I saw U2 the week after (in 1979) and they were good but had none of the spirit. Feargal, Billy, John(Sean), Mickey and Damian had it in bucketloads.
This is SO good I feel the need to comment again. If you have never seen the band or haven't seen them since the '80s then you should get to see them as soon as you can. They are STILL the best band I've ever seen live!!!
Awesome. Filmed before Sharkey's ego reached it's current phenomenal proportions. Damo and John...can there be a better pair of rock'n'roll guitarists???
I remember Feargal saying he would just go down the (flea) market and buy the cheapest shirts he could find before touring, then toss them away after a show. A truly awesome vid.
Deeply ace.
