Thanks for mentioning it was a Rubenstein favourite Chopin work, as it's mine too, and I've always thought Rubenstein's first LP recording of it, many decades ago, was the model of perfection. Given the near lack of a formal structure, the two short melodic fragments and mediant tonalities are all that holds this larger scale work together; and only the mesmerizing talents of a very few pianists have successfully brought it off.

If it is indeed his favorite piece then you can tell how deep he gets into the music and how he flows with and whithin it. Chopin would be proud!

Don't love this piece; perhaps he's an acquired taste. And I think he may appeal more to women, but just a theory...
