The horse that came back from a furlong behind was called Runover. It confused me because he'd run earlier that afternoon at another track and was ridden by Ridley Lamb.

more fallers than the 1984 National. I remember a race, just like it was yesterday where ra nova was last about half a furlong back in the home straight and was about to be pulled up then won.

something very wonderful about seeing Newbury as it was, when people could stand close to the racing without any rails! The cross hurdle's gone nowadays, couldn't tell you why... we don't seem to have so many cavalry charge handicaps these days. It's probably to do with progress. Oh, and the starts were a lot better without all these delays: the jockey had to line his horse up correctly, or the starter would just say 'tough mate' and let them go!
