  • Hey Adrian, I've been through 5 different routers from five different companies, and every single one has been useless to unusable. I then thought, hmm, what would DRBUK use... and the Airport Extreme seems like the thing to buy!

I'm going to fork out a massive amount of cash (for a router) for the Airport Extreme because I just can't be bothered any more, with these useless routers from useless companies.

I hope it's still working fine for you, please let me know if you've had any problems! :)

  • he wants to use it to blow up a plane wirelessly

  • this product makes a good paper weight or anchor.

    but it looks great. : o |

  • this vid is a waste !

  • Thanks for the videos. Just starting watching today after buying my first mac!

    peace!

  • can i use pppoe connection with airport extreme

  • Fish fucker

  • fuck off

  • Your the racist scum not me

  • will my wireless g laptop (windows) pick up the signal? thanks

  • Networking protocols are "Operating System independent"

If your Computer (Mac or PC) is has a Wi-FI Card (a, b, g or n) with the most recent drivers for your WiFi card/dongle...

there is no reason to not being unable to pick up the signal

Now to have acces to the secured network is another story (password, SSID when not broadcasted, type of security, WEP, WPA, WPA2 etc.)

Anyway if you plan to buy an Apple Airport device the Software utility/management are avalaible for Mac OS and for Windows

  • err (double negation):

"there is no reason to not being unable to pick up the signal"

    =>

"there is no reason to not being able to pick up the signal"

  • yes it will the airport extreme works with wireless n, g, b, and a devices

  • I have an AirPort Express and it works nicely...I just wish my printer was compatible with it so I can print wirelessly...

but yeah, DRBUK, did you consider the AirPort Express? or what about the Time Capsule?

  • ye im thinking btw an airport express or another base station, i mean not really a huge price difference. but wouldnt get either of them until late summer.lol. dont have money for another apple product.lol.

  • if you access the APEBS only wirelessly try to find a central place for It

A friend of mine have a strange small 3 room duplex

he screwed his Wi-FI router in the ceilling at the approximate center of the total volume of his flat.

    Cheers

  • Well after having read some of your comments such as plugging in a usb USB hub to allow more devices i guess it wouldent be such a bad product. but for me still not enough bang for the buck lol.

And if you have cemented and ridiculosy thick walls, i guess it is a good idea to extend your network, But i have read some where that with 2 diffren makes of routers you could extend your network meaning for a cheaper solution.

  • Seriously do the math dude, Wireless printing server are still very expensive, so are NAS (as seperate devices)

And ALL of Applle's Airport devices (Extreme Base Station, Express and now Time Capsule DO support WDS so extending an existing wireless network is dead simple as checking the right option along the Apple setting assistant)

  • not necessary Thick walls dude

in 50's (at least here in france) there were 5-10 cm inhouse cemented wall with garbage metal (not straight armed metal, garbage)

not even talking about metallic pipes craziness (some still used some not replaced but doubled , then condemned, etc.)

If you live in a new building or well taken care of House/flat, good for you, but don't take your personnal case as the universal truth

  • THIS IS JUST PLAIN FUCKIN STUPIDITY (coming from a Mac user and a person, who has an iPhone, MAC air and Imac)

  • this is just my view.lol. im not giving out the GOSPEL TRUTH. its my views, i understand you have your views, and thats cool.

  • I mean its not just this one case, I've seen you spend so much money on useless shait Like the ICLEAN, do you reallllly need it? And those Sony headphones, I mean like you could have saved a lot of money buy getting perfectly decent headphones for much cheaper. Overall, there are just so much cheaper alternatives, and you can save so much money from not getting this.

  • lol i bought the iclean because my screen is MESSED UP, i had younger cousins an stuff puttin hands all over screen an stuff, so i bought something to clean it. you cant judge things by just watching a few vids, the sony headphones i got were free from ebay.lol. they gave me a voucher for being a loyal customer so i never paid for it. the bang an olfusen headphones were free from an ebayer. the apple router was paid by another member of my family, i suggested to buy it. so please think.

  • In MY opinion PLEASE DRBUK don't buy another one of these it's bad enough you bought one of these. And you a student man flipping hell. You shouldn't be spending your money on shit like this, spend it on more important things to aid your pharmacy studies.

  • i understand what your talking about, and appreciate your comments and views. BUT PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT ON MYSELF AND MY EDUCATION, i can gurantee there is no one who takes education AS SERIOUS AS I DO. loads of youtubers say a lot of offensive things to me, but i let it pass, BUT DO NOT TALK OR GIVE ME ADVICE ON MY EDUCATION. Academia is something i take great pride in, so please refrain from commenting on that.

  • I wasent implying that you dont take your education seriously and im pretty sure you do take your education seriously, i mean pharmacy is probably one of the hardest courses out there, and the fact that you have managed to get onto a pharmacy course in a UK University deserves much respect as you have to take really hard A levels such as chemistry(arguably the hardest A level) and biology, and im sorry if i offended you.

  • And other thing is, i wasent saying this in a harsh or assertive way, i too was just expressing my views in a general conversation tone, i feel that you have taken this to heart, if so please dont as i didnt mean to offend you.

  • ROFL, bazzaaa123 seems to offer Itself as your new mom and dad

  • My opinion you really don't need this you really don't man, what's the point of extending your network a wireless router would provide excellent coverage for a standard house in the UK. My standard Wireless router gives me perfectly fine coverage in my house.

  • i NEEDED a new router....so whats the problem of getting the base station.ALL ROUTERS DO THE SAME THING. my rangemax costed me 100 STREET PRICE. same with apple. so whats the problem.

  • Extending Wireless network is usefull when you have garbage metal in walls (may be cement or concret)

If you have more than one floor (which seems to be the Case for Adrian's house)

if you have other interfering device like microwave, Halogen lamps, DECT phones, BlueTooth device, Alarm and CCTV, etc.

  • Loll the worst thing is that you want to buy TWO of these that's £240 pounds man. You could get a network hard drive, wireless printer, a DSL/ADSL router. In addition why do u need to extend you network, you live in a house by the looks of it.

  • Additionally it is in my opinion a good Idea to have those numbers and a sign with the flashing led's to show network activity. This is because you could have a quick glance to see a simple thing for example one quick glance you show you that your are connected, that line 1 is using the internet; that line 2 is using the internet etc, etc. Whereas without these simple things you have to turn the Mac on just to see those simple things.

  • I do have those lights on on my various routers (Home, Office, Parents home, CG Studio)

Of course those lights can be usefull to check if some cable is cutted or if the computer on the other side is active

    BUT

for wireless you DON'T have wireless strenght indicator (even on most recent CISCO BigASS Router)

    When Problems Occurs :

-THERE iS NO Diagnostic LED indicator

    - You do check inevitably the END User PC and/or Hoock up a PC to open a SOFTWARE that will do the Diagnostic or present the setup.

  • Additionally there is only one USB port; this is stupid if the main differentiating feature of the airport is the USB port. This means you can't have your printer and a hard drive plugged into the airport at the same time. So you would keep having to go up stairs (or where ever it is in your home) to switch the USB Port if you wanted to use both your hard drive and your printer. However it is an excellent feature if you would want to use it for just one device.

  • bazzaaa123

"Additionally there is only one USB port; this is stupid if the main differentiating feature of the airport is the USB port."

You'r Wrong and missinformed Read my other post

  • My fourth opinion is that the USB feature and the design of the Airport is great, but paying £80 - £90 more for the Airport instead of an ADSL/DSL router is enough motivation to put me off buying the airport.

  • If YOU don't need It nice for You, but for those who DO need It The AirPort Extreme Base Station is a really good deal.

    Wireless a/b/g/n Router

+ 3 LAN Gigabit Router (4th for the WAN)

+USB to host a Wireless Printing Server

+The Same USB To Hook a USB Drive that work as a Network Aera Storage

If you have more than One USB device to hook, the AirPort Extreme Base Station allow to plug a AC powered USB Hub in order to hook one or more USB HDD+ a Printer

  • Thirdly, I agree that Apple don't tie you down to ADSL or DSL if you buy the base station. But what's the point of paying £120 for the airport when you can get an ADSL wireless router for £40 and a Cable router for £30 brand new on eBay, in total that is £70 compared to the £120. This way you could just have one device on the desktop.

  • i get u, but im taking street prices, as not everyone buys from ebay or online stores, especially basic users, im using street prices.

  • "But what's the point of paying £120 for the airport when you can get an ADSL wireless router for £40 and a Cable router for £30 brand new on eBay, in total that is £70 compared to the £120"

    you forgot Wireless printing Server

+Wireless NAS server (with hardened ACK I/O to allow Time Machine Backup to not being fucked up by design)

  • First off, that router u said that cost you a 100 pounds, cost me £40 on eBay over a year ago. Paying a premium of £80 for that USB port doesn't seem worth it to me.

Secondly isn't it one of the great features of MAC that it clears up desktop space? And you're suggesting that we put more shit on our desktops. One of the great features I love about my Imac and air book is they take up so little space and they make my desk look clutter free.

  • Any Router Works With Dsl or Cable

  • depends on where u live, i mean for me virgin is amazing since the excahnge is jsut down my road.lol

  • being loving your videos since christmas Adrian, but was that a review or a rant?

  • passionate review.lol

  • Fantastic review, i love apple base stations i had a linksys before and now i have an Airport Express and it is by far the best base station ive ever used and set up. I can only imagine how great the extreme is :P

  • I might get one but how do I open up ports??

  • that might be a prb, as the printer is still be hooked to leopard, just by the network rather than a cable. either way ull prb most likely face that.

  • Excellent!

  • u love apple products!! explain please?

  • great review!

  • great review!

  • hi 5 stars

    hi ramin haha

  • the computer would have to be 802.11n enabled with a wireless card to pick up 802.11n

  • can any computer connect to 802.11n? like my toshiba laptop thats like 2 yrs old? and wut bout the macbook? Cool video

  • N device generally are a, b, g compatible in addition to the n standard

By default the station is open to a, b, g, n But you can restrict It to whatever YOU decide

for example you can decide to switch It to n only and the in addition choose the 5GHz frequence, which offer full speed without interferences with 2,4GHz interferences (WiFi b and g are 2.4 as well, BlueTooth, microwave and some DECT phones and other wireless remote and stuff )

  • Not exactly 802.11n but since 802.11n is compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n most laptops new and old will be able to connect to your router.
