My great grandmothers brother, my uncle Joe, was at Pearl Harbor the day the Jap Imperial army invaded the U.S. I have a commemorative coin that says, "to all those that served at pearl harbor". Its very sad that this day and age you hear people say to the U.S./U.K. to not be the world police when avoiding intervention in other countries politics is what gave rise to this war, the closest thing to Hell on Earth in human history. Praise the United Nations and NATO coalition forces. World peace.

yeah, in fact, the german army was the most effective (in places anyway) throught out the whole war. But also, almost every film is made about the american army in ww2, hardly any about the british. Yet the british army had been fighting since the very start of the war and played as significant a role as the US army on d-day and beyond.

im guessing its because we saved Britan's ass after they were left alone wihout France since it fell, and we were also fighting another war in Japan and we beat them and the soviet union captured the capital of Berlin*( Because we let them we could have captured Berlin also but we let the Russians do it...)

not saying Britan didnt do anything they were very succesful in North Africa... but no one really thinks of North Africa when they think ww2..

and also, i heard somewhere that overlord wasnt only for france's freedom. but it was also to reach berlin before the russians so communism stoped growing between european nations

By the time america had actually enterred WW2, the British had won the Battle of Britain (stopped the Germans invading), had won the Battle of El Alamain, and the USSR had inflicted on the Germans the first of a series of defeats on the Eastern Front for the Germans. The USA did not save "Britain's ass", but did contribute HUGELY to winning WW2. Without the USA it is doubtful that we would have won in the 1940s, and some say not at all (we'll never know) but the USA did not save our Ass totally

The sinking of HMS Hood was basically the symbolization that the Royal Navy was no longer the primer Navy of the world.

(Note: having said that I am not implying that the Royal Navy sucks or that it wasn't the British who took successfully took on and defeated the German Navy).
