two of my favorite voices! I heard them for the first time as a four year old watching Aladdin and Anastasia and now I've grown up a bit and I can now hear them sing such deep songs... It jus touches me so much.
This isn't an actual duet, is it? It sounds like different clips both singing the same song combined. The music when Lea is singing sounds a bit softer.
Now I see! I always thought Lea was the singing voice of Anya on Anastasia and that Liz was taking credit for some reason (no offense, I hadn't heard of her before now) so I looked it up and yeah. I don't think she was taking undue credit anymore. I love them both now!
same here. they sound so alike! for the longest time I thought it was Lea Salonga that did Anya's singing voice for Anastasia, until I found it that it was Liz Callaway. it's no wonder that Disney was able to hire Liz for Jasmine's voice in Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the Forty Thieves, since Lea couldn't return to those roles due to being busy in other things. but I could have sworn that Lea sang Anastasia's Journey to the Past at least once...
Lea may have...Liz was also the singing voice of Kiara as an adult in Lion King 2 and played griz in cats. I just love her. I actually got to be Liz in real life. Very down to earth and sweet person.
i prefer lea - her voice is not only crystal clear, but very sassy sounding at the same time. she has attitude(character) in her voice. liz is great too, but hers is more innocent and only crystal clear.
These 2 ladies are going to go down in history as 2 great singers. They currently are in Wicked the musical. They starred in baby: the musical, The Ziegfield Follies of 1936 with Howard McGillin and Gregg Burge and much more.
Both beautiful voices, both amazing talents...yet I definitely prefer Liz over Lea. She has a warmer tone while I feel Lea's is less crystal clear (airier, if you will), less nuanced, less expressive. But seriously, I'm not knocking Lea's chops. She's at the top of her field, for sure.
OK, going on the record that I have the BIGGEST crush on Liz Callaway. I got the chance to meet her at a concert at Showchoir Camps of America several years ago, and she was as gracious as I could have hoped. I saw her in "Merrily" and "Baby" and "Miss Saigon" and "Cats" and "Spitfire Grill," as well as the Sondheim concerts. Sorry, Lea, you are great, but I still have the BIGGEST crush ever on Liz. Thanks for letting me set that straight.
I find that when Lea is belting she tends to use vibrato earlier on in those long notes than Liz. Also Lea has a very rounded tone to her voice which makes it a very clear sound.
Lea sounds more Broadway in her singing, very strong and (can be) in your face, while Liz is a little softer and more intimate with her singing.
I love them both though, they have amazing voices <3
Liz was the one who did Anastasia. Lea did all Aladdin movies as the singing voices for Jasmine. Liz was also the singing voice for Kiara in "The Lion King 2".
you mean those so called pop singers have thin voices with feck all emotion............broadway singers have soul, a good classical training and acting ability....so get your facts right girlie
Not sure about the albums Lea's version comes from but Liz's sings it on the Original Cast Regording of Baby and also on her solo album on Varese Saraband, also called The Story Goes On, Liz Calloway, On & Off Broadway (album no.VSD-5585.
Good Lord, wherever did you get these tracks? I'd give my life to get my hands on them! (Well, not really, but you know what I mean.) Arrghhh! No matter where I look, I just can't find them.
I think Liz's voice is softer, and Lea's more powerful but they're both very great. I thought it was Lea first, singing the Anastasia, but found at the credits it was Liz.
And, yeah. I wouldn't have known who was singing if there weren't any pictures of them.
pls vote for Lea Salonga at voote website (u know what letters come before and after the "voote" word, can't post it here) as Hottest Female of Asian Origin
Yes they have very similar approaches and vocal qualities. But certainly hear Lea has a greater depth of tone quality than Liz. Much more character and flexibility in the instrument... Both have very beautiful voices. Thanks
did they have the same vocal coaches or something....their techniques are the same!!! although Iris sounds like them too and i have similar techs maybe its because they all sing with their souls!!!
That's why Liz follow up Lea's jobs after Lea. Lea Salonga recorded Jasmine int he movies.Liz Callaway is the singing voice of Jasmine in the tv show because their voices are close to each other. Lea recorded Baby and then Liz recorded after. They did appear together in Miss Saigon on Broadway.Lea was Kim and Liz was Ellen. Then they appeared together again on Lea's concert at the Carnigie Hall where they sang this song.Again, people were confused.
both lea and liz have been the singing voice of princes jasmine. lea was the original singing voice while liz provided her voice in aladdin and the king of thieves.
Wow, wasn't this recorded during their rehearsal for Lea's Carnegie Concert? Was this a sound board recording? Were you there during the rehearsal? The concert version was different from this one. Liz sings after Lea introduces her during the chorus. Beautiful song. Too bad the concert was not recorded for commercial release. Thanks for sharing.
Actually I mixed the two separate versions of the song to achieve this duet; it's not a live thing :) I've never seen Liz or Lea perform live, not alone their rehearsal. And I'd love to. I also wish the concert dvd was released...
it was a goosebump- tear swelling moment, specially when liz pointed to lea's growing tummy, who was on her second trimester, then, and "tweaked" the lyrics near the end of the song to fit lea's very pregnant condition... sigh* heaven!
First, you're a freaking psycho.. just because I mentioned I prefer Lea's voice over Liz means I dislike Liz. I prefer Liz version of Anastasia than Lea. I prefer Ruthie Henshall's version of Fantine over Lea tho Lea's my 2nd bet. I prefer Idina Menzel's version of Defying Gravity over Lea... and more..
omg... i love both of them!!!! i've always thought they sound similar... but now, thanks to this, i have basis for comparison... liz has the smoother voice, while lea has the clearer one... i think i like lea more though...
yes, the original cast was indeed the London cast.. mrkh8791 specified "original Broadway cast".. as in the pioneers when the show finally came to NY...
anyway, I love both of these women so much! they sound amazing together... Lea's is obviously the power-bearer... and Liz sounds so smooth and flawlessly motherly... totally awesome!
both of them are very easily confused with each other... it's kinda cool, though.. heheheh! leaves each of the listeners with a little homework each time...
although there's a resemblance to their voice but i still can easily recognize lea's voice and i personally think it's better than liz. you can hear the variation of notes while liz notes sounds low and the same.
beautiful! At first lestening, I couldn't tell which one is which. Their voices are both crystal clear and somehow alike. I'll give them a standing ovation!
