Oh man this brings back memories. My parents owned this same car when I was a kid. They bought it new in early 1980's and I remember bits and pieces of the car when I saw this video.
holy shit...the sticker beside the radio at 1:37 !!! what does it say? cause my moms car has one in the same exact spot...has an address to some house on it...
i have a 2 door 84 delta 88 with 74xxx miles on it!! i love it everything works but the speedonometer.. oh and in dallas u only see 4 doors with big o'l rims on it, rarely see a 2 door in mint condition like mines
These early 80's full size GM cars are still seen on the road today. even the ones that are beat to hell are still going strong around here in Chicago area. I see lots of them. I hardly see any other makes this age on the road as a daily driver today. Just proves what a quality product GM put out.
That's rings pretty true with me. Take the next 6 months when you are out driving and start looking for early '80's GM cars that are still on the road as daily drivers. Olds, Buick, Chevrolet, and Pontiac. Now at the same time try looking for early '80's Hondas, Toyotas, and Datsuns. Then report back to me.
@DerrickOil yeah you sholl right about that im from michigan and so many people got old skools despite the salt and snow. they are all in good condition why people try to play my 83 old delta 88. its in great condition and it can take me anywhere any newer car can. older is better, they were built to last.....
this prooves that gm was and still is better than ford we had an 83 grand marquis it was somewhat reliable but had a lot of bugs, most fords didnt last as long which might explain why I can never find a part for an old GM, but since most fords are in the junk yard theres plenty of them.
As pretty as the 80s Ford and Merc Marquis were, you are right, not many at all around. Here in VA and when I lived in MD, the 77 - 90 Caprices, and GM wagons are really abundant. Even 2 weeks ago, I saw 7 late 80s Caprices still looking like new and of course... running! Im holding onto my late 70s Deltas and my 93 Roadmaster!
I will have to say back then that fords had the upper hand in terms of technology Ford had the most advanceEFI, computers, and I think they pioneered it because most gm and dodge were still carbureted
@1995bisquick That may be so, but look at how many of those Fords are on the road still compared to the full size GM's. Simplicity in many cases = longevity.
actually true miles are unknown sadly these oldsmobiles odometers are not a full arrangement like modern cars that has for example 100,000 well on these cars like most the 1 dont exist but it is a nice car bad on gas though
Yeah. They should have made these with 6-digit odometers.Because with good care they last well more than 100,000 miles. My 85 has 213,000 miles on it.
yes they did, with a full size spare, enough room for vacation luggage, or transporting bicycles.. and being built on a frame you can TOW with them, unlike the crap they have today. try loading down a Honda with suitcases and a boat... LOL
The man id totally proud of his 88, and he should be. Had one almost exactly like it. Best car I ever owned. You can't kill it. I had a rod knocking in it and I went on to put 40k miles on it and was still running great when I sold it.
I noticed that when you started up this Oldsmobile without your seatbelt on, it made no sound at all. Did this 1983 Oldsmobile originally come with a chime or a buzzer?
Originally had a buzzer. Most GM had the buzzer untill about 1985-86ish Cadillac had the luxurious lol chime. And GM cars n trucks for that period had an annyoing higher pich buzzer.
efi is ok i like the snap of a carb. but i do agree gm centerport efi do kind of suck

I noticed that when you started up this Oldsmobile without your seatbelt on, it made no sound at all. Did this 1983 Oldsmobile originally come with a chime or a buzzer?
Jac2Mac 4 years ago
Neither there isn't anything to protect your safety aboard that lovable Boat, I know I own a 82.
SpideyFan6010 4 years ago
the car is all steel, wear your seatbelt if you worry. it will crush anything that gets in the way
bfgoodrik 3 years ago
Originally had a buzzer. Most GM had the buzzer untill about 1985-86ish Cadillac had the luxurious lol chime. And GM cars n trucks for that period had an annyoing higher pich buzzer.
kphj81 4 years ago
Did the Brougham version of the 1983 Olds 88 come with a chime or a buzzer like this Olds used to have?
Jac2Mac 4 years ago
It might have originally had a chime but since this is not a Brougham it most likely had the buzzer or the flute-like tone.
kcro25 3 years ago
However, the regular 1982-83 Olds Delta 88 could be ordered with the chime as an optional package instead of the buzzer, right?
Jac2Mac 3 years ago
yes a bell chime, my 81 has a beep.
bfgoodrik 3 years ago
What Oldsmobile do you have?
Jac2Mac 3 years ago
1981 Delta 88 Royale 4 door. with 403ci 400th trans 4speed. all power acessories with moonroof
