  • this man has never never never never sung a bad song.

  • My son ask me one time, who Charlie Pride was and I told him, he was my Garth Brooks. He said really, I said yes, and Garth could learn from him. He is a class act with a voice that is extraordinarily fantastic.

  • cant wait for the movie of his life with the rock playing charlie should be a great movie

  • my country hero!

  • I play this always in the cassette in the Plymouth.

  • I played the Hank Williams version of this song on the jukebox, Bartender walked over to play this version, had a 5 min. talk about Charley and Hank.. It was a good night out.

  • @April7297Personal opinion - we are are entitled to them. I think the PSG playing of the great Lloyd Green makes this concert (and so to did Mr. Pride!).

  • Man...what a cool song/voice !!!

  • No one else can sing this like Charley..

  • Wonderfull. One of the great country singers

  • My dad was a huge fan of Charley Pride. My dad died in 1987, and I listen to his favorite music to keep the memories. Everytime I listen to Charley's awesome voice, I'm saying thank you to my dad for introducing me to country music:)

  • This guy is black!?

  • @rdv1982 Yes, and one of the greatest country singers to ever grace us with his talent.

Oh, and so you don't die of shock, Darius Rucker is black too. Not that it should matter. Talent is talent. BTW, were you born in THIS century?

  • This just rocks, real music died so long ago

  • Is it just me or did anyone else notice...there was only one person (front row wearing white) tapping their hand to the song.....In the begging of the video you could hear applause but you didn't see it......the same at the end...THANK GOD WE'VE CHANGED

  • @BACKDOOI RCRAFTS

I am a 45 yr old white male and I grew up listening to Charlie Pride, I just love him. This is my Fav from him.

  • That's an excellent video for the year that it was......He's my hero ok? I love Charley and always will.

  • He would probably tell you the same thing; Glad you think about Hank

  • Always reminds me of my elder brother Charles,in a sinle room in Westlands Nairobi, back in 1984.

A voice that is a wonder to say the least.

  • killing Indigenous culture

  • Let us not forget Lloyd Green on Pedal Steel! :-)

  • such a haunting voice...just incredible

  • i seen charlie in concert once with dave and the sugars.. they were great ... :)

  • Hank done it first, but Charley does it better........

  • This is a cover of a Hank Williams Sr. song. Charley had great respect for Hank Sr.

    * silver wings* lyrics

  • CHARLIE!!

  • Yep Charlie Pride is one of a kind!!!

  • Thanks for posting, I love Charlie! I recently read that a scalper got this women, she paid 900.00 or close to get a ticket to his show in Branson, Charlie heard about it, paid the lady back and gave her a front row seat free, said he woudnt pay that much to see himself! Good ending! Great man!!!

  • I just adore this song....Charlie was the 1st African American singer....I'm a blackfoot/ cherokee indian lady and I think he's done justice for our people and then some.Rena, swva

  • Dose anyone know the chord progression for guitar for this song???

  • Im a Marty Robbins fan, but this is without a doubt the best version of this song....YO-HO.

  • This was the very first song by Charlie Pride that I learned to sing when I was little

  • My wife and I saw Charley in person many times in the late 1960s at the old Sam Houston Coliseum and also the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

  • Hey sandom12.. I'm born and raised in Houston, Texas. I saw many concerts in H town, and Charley did play here, but has it really been since the 70's? I can't really be getting as old as you!

  • Thanks for a video of the man whom Chet thought had great talent. And he did!

    I love good ol' Charley!

  • The "Pride" of Country Music.....

  • hank jr's version is the best.

  • charlies is far superior to Hanks not even close

  • You do know Hank did this song first, right?

    (Hank Sr, that is)

  • hank sr was better

  • Charley Pride--a class act. Kaw-Liga, a great great song!

  • I think his version of this song is the best out of all who have done it!

  • Love that Hawaiian steel guitar.

  • ericbo4...got weed? lol

  • Whoa!!!! The indian face at 1:40 freaked me out for a second. I thought I was imagining it at first.

  • I'm 32 and love to hear Charlie Pride sing KAW-LIGA. I like his version the best. Thanks for the video.

  • I was blessed enough to see him in person back in the 70's at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, even better inperson!!!!

  • The power of this song when you see him do it live is like nothing else!

Awesome song! Wish there was a better video of this.

  • i agree 100 per cent you make your own mind up.

  • love this songgggggggggggggg

  • The Orchestra is terrible. I have another live version of this, from Charley, and its much better. I think its a brilliant song. Thanks to hank for writing it and Charley for that long ass kaw-Liga- aaaaa-iiii-oooo or whatever. Man Charley, Hank, Cash, and some of these old guys mess up my image around here, all my friends listen to Hip Hop and stuff, and they shake their heads when they catch me listening to this music. But I cant stop. New country music sucks, except for Gillian Welch.

  • way to go Charley! sing it like it's suppose to be sung!

  • I love a lot of the old stuff too. That was really great talent back in those days. But you have to remember since Elvis, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis it has always gotten a little rock to it. But it's all great.

  • Charlie Pride is a great singer .his songs are classic.

  • Country Music is not like it was in the 1970's & 1980's now it has that rock mixed in and for me it totaly ruined it all together.

NOW for me it is ALL OLDIES ALL THE WAY.

    Thank you very much

  • Hi there - thanks for posting this track. Is this the 'Live at Panther Hall' concert by any chance, with LLoyd Green on Pedal Steel? Sure sounds like it........:-)

  • i agree with you both, allen is right, country music today is one of the biggest if not the biggest in the industry, but at the same time, as my opinion only mind you, damony is right in saying that country music isnt what it used to be. If they hadn't added the smoke, lights and extra sounds, country music would be on the bottom these days, because if you listen to anyone newer than alan jackson or george strait, in my opinion, it doesn't take much talent to become a star.

  • Don't know what your problem is Damony but attributing modernization (not charley pride anyway, he sang traditional) to the downfall of country music is like Attributing Elvis Presley to the downfall of rock and roll.

Actually not similar at all, your problem can only be that he is black. Listen to it a thousand times in a row pal, charley sang it better than Hank in every way. Deal with it.

  • Are you talking about all those '70's losers like "let your love flow", and "don't it make your brown eyes blue", and "lucille", "blue bayou", "delta dawn", "blue eyes crying in the rain","the fightin' side of me","is anybody going to san antone", NEED I GO ON????

  • To Damony: Man if you think country music is dead you must not be paying attention. Certainly it's evolved and sprung ROOTS. That is an indication of something ALIVE AND WELL PAL. Heads up man, the CMA draws the largest audience of any genre, rock, pop, or hip hop. The highest paid performers (music) in America today are C&W. That HASN'T always been the case. Wake up pal. You're beating a non-existent horse.

  • Wow. Angry much? Pride marched through all your angst as one of the greatest c&w singers ever in this white guy's eyes. I don't know how that fits into your theory, but it IS reality.

  • I don't know who wrote this song, but I believe legendary Hank Williams sang it before Charlie did. I never liked Hank's version of it, Charlie did it so much better. I in fact looked for Charlie's version here some time ago and it wasn't here, only Hanks. I was disappointed, thanks for uploading this. Sure would be nice to get the studio version of it up on here as well.

  • Oh yeah, he's still alive. Last I heard from him, he did an album full of Jim Reeve's coves and there was a spat about some sort of copy protection on it and how it not only stopped it from being copied to your computer but stopped it from playing in a lot of different players. Too bad, wonderful singer.

  • iss charley still alive just wondering

  • he sure is!

  • love this mans voice charley never fails to make me tremble at the knees

  • Yep, that HAS to be Mr. Lloyd Green.....is this the 'Panther Hall' gig? 'Cos if it is, then that IS Lloyd Green! :-)

  • Charley, one of the BEST in Country Music!

  • That HAS to be LLoyd Green on Pedal Steel!

  • Of course since we never got to see the steel player, it's hard to say with 100% accuracy, but it may have been the late Gene O'neal, Charley's road steel guitarist for many years. Gene could do an amazing job at emulating the great backup that Lloyd did on Charley's sessions.

  • Thats a good number of hits I hope If I make it in Nashville I have that many #1's

  • I really dont have a favorite song of charley prides I love them all there all really the best of him in my book.

  • Pride had 36 number one hits on the Country Billboard Charts and 70 million sold, he's is RCA's second most successful artist, after Elvis.

  • @MaxPride59 Good old Charley is what I say i have been to 4 of his conserts and he is just great..

  • @MaxPride59 Wow. Thanks for that info. Didn't know that.

  • I love this song!!best version..thanks for posting:)

  • Me too, Barnzulla. Charley Pride's is my favorite version of this song. And Mississippi Roll On is still one of my favorite songs. Hmm. Wonder if I can find that, now.

  • I always loved charley pride's version of this song as well as his other songs there all awesome in my book I cant wait to see him perform live sometime

  • Kaw Ligaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... eeeyo aho.. whooo !!
