Thats a myth,europeans countries the "christianitas" were always very interdependent,Europe only really progressed and demarked itself thanks to the Roman Empire,a huge set of peoples,after its fall,for great part of medieval and modern history we were more undeveloped than China and the indian kigdoms,only far stronger militarily than them,due to constant wars.

Federalists want a politically united Europe to optimize its economical output,thus its political independence,not to attack anyone,thats in deep contrast with the european values post WWII.
A Federal Europe does not imply the end of the national governments,and can work with a relatively weak central government,only able to implement economical and external policies,being out of most instances of internal policy.

Nato is far from a good alliance,the unreliable corporativist dictatorship across the Atlantic has too much power in it,it endangers Europe as it puts her in opposition towards Russia following closely US external policy of intimidation(followed in Bush era dropped by Obama,it will be surely resumed by the next republican),while there is no reasons for Europe to be antagonistic towards Russia,much for the contrary,we have reasons to be allies.

@EUrealitycheck1 Its unfair,in Nato context we payed for decades with money,research material and personnel the US military industrial complex,in exchange for downtunned US equipment to the european forces(US never really trusted "allies"they see only their interests)but at that time it existed the Soviet Union,rather different matter than Russia, so I have no objections back then for the treaty,my objection is that Nato exists with much of the same policies,terms and conditions today.

@St0rmbre4ker Elections in the EU take place every five years by universal suffrage. 736 MEPs are elected to the European Parliament which has been directly elected since 1979. Any decision from the Commission requires approval from the European Parliament. The Parliament also has the power to dismiss the body, so the Commission is directly controlled by the Parliament, which in turn is democratically elected.

Without the nations of which it consits, europe is nothing but a geographic term. It is not possible to form a centrlized european state without destroying that which has made this continent so cultivated and technologically advanced.

@ViriathusVingathor But the united europe can only be of profit if the integration progress does not harm the nations which sum up europe after all. The current development though is that europe always orientates itself after the weakest. The ECB is ruled by the unstable south, the commission and thus the entire EU is run by an unelected wanna be napoleon. And I bet that 90% of the MEP do not know about the chaos of over 64 side agencies.
This is leads to ruin not power or independence
