This is the basement of house.. This is what started it...if u don't love this song!! Something is wrong in the house nation!! I think about this song so much!! the ending is sooooooo nice!!
If I'm not mistaken, disco was the 70's! The 80's brought a more fresher, cleaner sound to the dance industry. Groups like Lime, paved the way for such artist like Madonna. Lime had a unique sound and to this day, nothing can compare to it. I think back in the early 80's is was (correct me if I'm wrong) new wave. Music has come a very long way since the 80's and pioneer groups like Lime, paved the way. Thanks for the memories (ah, such awesome ones at that too!).
This always reminds me of "107 North" in Glen Cove, Long Island and my main man DJ Tommy Nappi! Plus the voiceover guy...ca 't remember his name...lol :)
Lime was one of the most popular HiEnergy groups in the early 80s in Charleston, SC. These times were great in downtown Charleston at the popular dance clubs such as The King Street Garden and Gun Club as well as LesJardins in the Market area. These songs will remained etched in my mind as some of my best times during my college days.
OH MY GOD WOW WHAT AMAZING MEMORIES, YES THIS WAS THE BEST MUSIC UP UNITIL DANCE FREESTYLE DIED!!! IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME, WE ALL KNEW EACH OTHER AND IF WE DIDNT THEN WE KNEW SOMEONE'S COUSIN LMAO OR SISTER!!! IT WAS ALL ABOUT PICKIN UP AND GETTING ZOOTED LMAO. RIP TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO DIDNT MAKE IT, I WILL NEVER FORGET!!!!
@daxbear1 You got that right..."when clubs were clubs" God, I miss the early to mid 80's!!!! Those were the best years of my life!!! How can it be that I am 50...I was 23 just a moment ago!!!
Its actually not disco, Its actually a style of music called 'Hinergy' that became very popular in the mid 80's, Classics is all this music mixed in to one bcuz in a classics mix a dj'll mix house, new wave, hinergy, disco & even funk, Those of you who know the music & its artists knkw what im talking about. LITTLE VILLAGE STAND UP!!!! RIDGEWAY 25TH!!!!!!!
Hi everyone who were alive on the eighties, believing still alive, right. just wanna say this one was one of the best dance. now in the fifthties still listen to all disco music, which still keep my collection of 12'' inch vinyl...! My collection went to 600 12'' singles.
@gecco1021 Let's make it easy for you. Download the video, then the Youtube downloader and that's it. The youtube downloader will convert that video to MP3, AND THERE YOU HAVE IT
@gecco1021 connect turntable to phono line in,and run line output to (correct connector),line in on pc,use the correct software ,(some good ones are free)record the song-wav file, then convert to mp3.i prefer using mozilla firefox, with download helper, with conversion helper.and i download this video(i like the videos, even if there just music),but i also convert copy-the video to mp3 for my ipod.so i have a collection of videos AND mp3s.when my pc is connected to my stereo,OH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
@worldturnsdisco I was there during this same year too. The music and DJs were unparralled then. Joey Messina, Alan Orton. They took these songs and worked absolute magic on the turntables. It's a lost art these days.
@restareabear I agree! I used to like Michael Stark and a couple of other DJs. Michael used to make me tapes of his music in the late 80s, early 90s. I always loved the changes that Backstreet did with the lights, disco balls, etc. Always state of the art and with perfection!!!
Excellent pure 80's techno classic from back in the day!!! this song holds special meaning for me personally because I used to hear it driving on the FDR Drive up in Manhattan visiting my older brother when he was sick in Mount Sinai Hospital so I always put myself back there whenever I hear it on KTU or Z100!!!! The ultimate dance track of the Big Apple with a little bit of Lime for a terrific flavor!!!!
I used to hear this several years ago after it had been out for years, but could not figure out the artist and title till I googled some of the lyrics!!
@tlw1950 Couldn't agree with you more!!! The best days of my life were in the early and mid-80's!!! I will cherish the friendships and memories forever.
@tlw1950 My club days where in Philly...at a bar called Key West.....I came out in 1983...how did I go from 23 to 50 so fast!! I wish I had a time machine to go back!!!
I still listen to this music all the time! I'm glad so many of the gay dance classics are on CD! Do you remember dancing to Let The Music Play by Shannon? I was in the clubs when that was a PEAK time experience. Also Searchin' by Hazell Dean and of course, Eartha's Where Is My Man always brought the boys out on the floor! I'd love to be 23 again but only if it's 1983!!!!!!!! Today's dance music has lost its groove, imo!
You bet I remember dancing to those songs. As a matter of fact, I e-mailed m BFF this morning who lives in Florida that I You-Tubed "I am what I am" by Gloria Gaynor and if he remembered us taring up the dance floor. You are right about the music today....or are we just getting old. Regardless...those songs just bring back so many memories of the friends that I have lost through the years and how we were once young, carefree and beautiful!!!!
Do you remember Danger by the Flirts? I Am What I Am was a fave of mine! What about Take A Chance On Me by Waterfront Hone? And Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight by Lime? OMG, you've sparked so many memories for me! Remember when Making Love came out? That was probably the first gay themed film I ever saw. Remember Eartha's Cha Cha Heels? Male Stripper by Man 2 Man? OMG, what about Another Man by Barbara Mason?
You are brining back so many memories.....but I remember them all. I remember going to see Making Love...it was right before I came out. Why is youth so fleeting
Fantastic Backstreet Atlanta memories!!! I was so young and innocent...until I went to Backstreet. I had to fight the hotties off me. I still do...because of my angel eyes...I just want to stay all night, hold me baby...hold me...I'm still young enough to do it all again...hold on.
@70sdiscoretro Ft. Lauderdale Backstreet memories here! I can still see, in my mind, Lime performing this live on New Year's Eve, the colored loghts, the horse carousel spinning, and all the mirrors....
@cottonceena Do you know how many years Backstreet Ft. Lauderdale was open? I wish someone would do an indepth history of both clubs with photos included! I just moved back to Atlanta from Ft. Lauderdale. I am trying to figure out where Backstreet was in the downtown area of Ft. Lauderdale.
@70sdiscoretro Hey! BS Ft. Laud. opened in 1980. It closed in June of 1989. Frank Cashman owned it, and I think he died a couple years after it closed. Antonio was the manager, Chai was the cute Asian admission cashier at the front, a big black guy "Lemon" was the doorman/bouncer. John and Jay (bartenders) were there from day 1 till the last day. John died in 1990. It was at 200 W. Broward Blvd, in the exact center of the city.
@cottonceena Thanks for the info! I appreciate it very much. I think both Backstreets will always be remembered for the music, lights, dancing and great times! By the way, Backstreet Atanta was open from 1975 to 2004. The building was torn down and now are condos. Very sad but I guess that's life.
@70sdiscoretro BSFL had to be the most beautiful club ever, and it was HUGE! 2-story French Quarter style with balconies all around the 2nd floor. Huge ornate mirrors lined the walls. Chandeliers. A large spinning horse carousel in the ceiling. Polished pine banisters on the curved stairways at each end. Amazing light show & music. A huge outdoor patio with large swimming pool. Outside bars, a gym, and a mini mall.
@70sdiscoretro The best memories of my life, I practically lived there. I do have some photos of several Halloweens, inside and outside. I had a video of BS NYEve '87 w/ Lime singing, but lost it. The city gave Frank constant grief because of the thousands of Gays it drew each day, right in the center of their city! LOL It changed into the "Chile Pepper" (straight) and they gutted it! Filled in the pool, stripped the walls, metal staircase & rainings. It is still there, looks like hell.
@cottonceena Wow! It sounds absolutely wonderful!!! Atlanta has cracked down on a lot of clubs here. They have been doing it for years. I always met people who were from Fort Lauderdale or S. Florida who always said great things about Backstreet Ft.L. I hate that I never got to visit. I never got past Orlando!!
@cottonceena Did you get to meet Lime? Denis and Denyse Lepage? They are truly gifted people! It is a shame what the new owners of the club do to supposedly "update" the look to draw a crowd. I probably have seen the old Backstreet in Fort Lauderdale when I lived down there but didn't realize that it was Backstreet. I have been all over downtown FtL taking pictures!!!
@70sdiscoretro Yes, met the Lepages, Sylvester, Madonna, Vickie Sue Robinson, Eartha Kitt, Bonnie Pointer, Viola Wills, Tapps, Bronski Beat, & many others. They would all circulate in the crowd. You probably drove past it a lot: on the corner of Broward & 2nd, just west of the tracks. I will try to scan my photos of it and email to you. Hopefully those reading our comments will get an idea of an unique era and lifestyle. Frozen in time, and will live forever in the minds and hearts of thousands!
@cottonceena I would love to see your photos! Thanks a lot! I hope others will respond and share fond memories, too! My name is Jonathan. Would you like my gmail account?
This was the best music back in the day! It brings back good old memories! Dam...if only music like this can stay forever! This group has nice songs too!
