finally an adult who is talking sense heck yeah your a smart women and btw a cool thing that really makes teen feel respected is to call them a teen and not a kid.last person that called me a kid got chewed out bad.
I think even kids under 18 should be allowed to make most of their own decisions. I'd rather just ask them why the come to their conclusions/decisions, and try to be persuasive, not authoritative if I disagree. Other than that, let them fall down and let them know you'll be there to help them get up, but ultimately their consequences are THEIR consequences, not yours. If you just tell them what to do, they'll be indecisive followers the rest of their lives.
My parents are driving me away to the point where I don't want them in my life. They have high expectations that are hard to match plus everything has to revolve around them. I hate making them angry but I am suffocating! And by the way I am 26 and I live with them after losing my job due to self doubt, paralysis fear and depression.

I totally agree with you on this my GF is 26 her family treats her like a 10 yr old her mother steals her benefits spends it on holidays and forces her to go to places against her will not to mention no one except me ever listens to her it's driving both of us up the wall and making her feel like life's not worth living there should be a international law to stop parents from doing this
My parents were overly controlling. It caused a lot of problems. Some of my teachers thought that I was stuck up because I would never speak to anyone. At home my parents would yell, scream, and beat me if I so much as even said good morning to my teachers, friends, neighbors, etc. At 18, I had to literally leave home with just the clothes on my back, no savings, no job. It's the best decision I ever made.
Yes i agree with you...My mom and her new boyfriend that she has never met wants me and my boyfriend of 5 months to break up..! Umm no. She never used to be like this. Ever. She didnt have a problem with him until he pounded things into her head..So i am not breaking up with him..NEVER..
How old are you, and are you still living at home. I went through something similar. But I was literally not allowed to even look out the window when riding in the car. I was too young to realize it at the time, and possibly in denial, But as an adult I came to realize that the reason why I was kept like a prisoner away from the opposite sex was because my stepfather was attracted to me, and because he couldn't have me, he was damn sure I NEVER had a BF. Just be careful.
@brooklyn1967@brooklyn1967 Oh no - it was NOTHING like that. My dad's really laid back and everything - Mom's the control freak. But that's how she grew up, too. She doesnt do it out of spite. I hadn't been back here to look at comments for a LONG time - nice to see the video is still being seen. Kinda crazy. I've been on my own for three years now - in a relationship, have a great job - going back to school next month. How is everyone doing these days?
Because of my abusive control freak parents I'm in my late 20's but yet I have the maturity of a 15 year old in a lot of cases. Hell when I was 16 I used to be in the comfort and safety of my bedroom and my parents would come in and check on me. That alone made me feel like a retard. Even today I feel like at times. Up to this day, they can't see anything wrong with what they did. It's almost like they're actually mentally retarded or something. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
You're in your late 20's and still live with your parents? Find a job and move out. I made myself an ultimatum. I'm 22 and I still live at home, but most of it is because I'm waiting to get my apprenticeship so I know I have a steady income. After that, it's adios amigo. I can't live at home forever. My parents peek in on me all the time too. What am I gonna do when I have a girl over again? Are they going to stick their head in to make sure I'm okay? It's like get the fuck out sometimes.
It's like they are constantly trying to impede any way for me to have fun. I like guns, yet I can't have one but my dad owns three. Every time I go out, they stay up until 2am making sure I come home okay. I'm a 22 year old man for crying out loud. They are always trying to tell me what I can and can't afford or what I can spend my money on even though I'm the one that works for it. If I work for it, I can blow it on anything I fucking want. Then it's "Then get out of my house."
Sometimes I feel better when I sit down and talk to my friends about it because without them, I think I would snap. But it's like it never ends. Like a migarine headache that doesn't stop. I do my own laundry, I provide for myself, buy my own groceries, pay my own bills... yet I'm constantly told that I can't take care of myself or I can't do this. Let me tell you guys something. Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do anything, even if it's your parents. Be your own person.
@hogger129 what would you do then if your parents refused to even acknowledge your opinion? especially if they sart yelling and raging the moment you try to "defy" what they're telling you to do?
I also have a younger sister who is 19. She has a boyfriend who is what some would call "rich." It's like they don't worry about her at all. She sleeps over at her boyfriends' house just about every night. The only time we see her is maybe an hour or two on weekends. They gave her my dad's brand new Mazda Tribute. I had to buy my '08 Volkswagen. Sometimes I think they see me as a black spot on the family tree. Like somehow I let my family down beacuse I'm not rich and stuff.
I also found out that she was taking birth control pills and stuff, yet I was never let in on that secret until about two years after it happened. I guess somehow I didn't have a right to know what was going on between my own family. She goes on trips and shit all the time to places, and they don't say a word about how they're worried about her. Yet when I go to Minnesota, they worry themselves almost to a heart attack.
My dad always told her she could never have a dog, yet today, she showed up with one. Kind of hypocritical how he lets her have this and that and doesn't worry one bit about her, yet he treats me exactly opposite. I talked to him about it, and he feeds me this line about how he cares about me and stuff, yeah, whatever. Blah, blah, blah. All my dad cares about is himself. He thinks he's alwyas right and everyone else is wrong. He always thinks he's doing everyone a favor and shit all the time.
Never let anyone every put you down or make you feel unworthy. Sometimes when a parent likes one child over another its because you have something that either makes you better or make you shine brighter than the other one.
For example My parents would:
tell their friends that I was retarded when in fact I was a high iq and was getting A's and B's.
Call me a whore If someone even complemented my hairstyle in my early 20's where my 15-16 year old sister was getting high, etc.
I agree with you there beyond a shadow of a doubt. I have the same parents who don't give a shit about my own privacy. I'm 20 and they treat me like a 12 year old. They don't have any respect for you. I get so angry sometimes i just fell like killing them.
I posted and the message didn't show!lol! Best wishes with getting a much more relaxed relationship with your mom!My mom has gotten better but when I was younger I was a perfectionist and many times procrastinated so much I wouldn't get things done.I feel I have done well in school but missed out on chances which take a risk.
Great video! The parents think they're doing it out of love but the child of any age can have self doubt and be very critical of themselves to the point nothing gets done which really gives them experiences in life.
i have a very controlling mother. she doesn't realize that she's this way, i know, and that's just..that's just how she is. but as a result, i'm a perfectionist. and i'm never satisfied with myself...i'm very critical of myself...so yeah. thanks for the comment!!! i'll be posting more videos later, so subscribe to my vlog! :)
@jesusfreak8511 I haven't been here for over a year.How have you
been? I hope things are better with your dad.Parents think they're doing the right thing when they're controlling. It's really strange.Do you have an adult friend or
