And last. The Formula 1 cars don't need extra power to go faster in a corner! Why do you think they use bakes!! They will take the corners this year, with LESS speed than before, so extra power won't help!!
Lasse is correct. The brakes in all automobiles are very inefficient with respect to energy conservation. By applying the brakes, all of the kinetic energy delivered from the engine is dissipated as heat. KERS was developed to harness the 'lost' kinetic energy as electricity to be stored in a capacitor. So, when the driver presses a button in his cockpit, the electricity will drive the pistons instead of combusted fuel, thereby making his car much more fuel efficient.
