  • My dad was Air Force and we were in Japan from '64 through '68 in the Tama region. never had the mushrooms but the bamboo shoots werw excelent :) Mamasan across the street would take us kids to pick bamboo shoots on the Tama river.

  • If you used the transcribed audio when he announces the selection it's: "Chosen at random: MATTHEW!".

Apparently human beings are on the menu according to YouTube's Closed Captioning.

  • The unveiling of the ingrendiant is a top 5 thing in human history.

  • i didnt know charcoal had that kinda explosive power...

  • MAAAAAATSUUUUUUUUTAAAAAKEEEE.

  • i love sakai :)

  • i love sakai's battle he looks like a nice guy to be around with lol

  • OMG!!! why wash mushrooms?! huhuhu it'll become soggy and eeww. :| haha they should just brush the dirt off dry cleaning :)

  • Dude, that just grinds the dirt into it. You have to use water or you'll have dirt still on it.

  • ok, prices have largely changed because of increases in growers outside japan, primarily in canada as well as quality control.

  • lol, Sakai always has that "WTF, this is bullshit" face when the ingredient is announced. But it never matters, he still makes great dishes.

  • Lol! That's so true.

  • lol

  • looks like they'd work better than hot dogs

  • They taste extremely nice. Cost me alot xD

  • They used to be $350 a pound, now they are about $5 a pound.

Dunno what's happening, they very cheap now.

  • Its obvious whats happening. People got sick and tired of getting ripped off.

  • Not really. Its still a gourmet item. The reason why they are cheap now is because of people growing them outside Japan, which means there is more supply of them

  • @DazzChannel I don't think anyone's been able to cultivate matsutake yet, but there is a lot of harvest from the pacific NW and BC.

  • I thought they were $100 for one.

    But $150? Hm.

  • not fair at all, the pickers sell for only 2 dollars per pound last year. what are back breaking pickers like us.

  • well, they have a complex grading system that determines the wide range of price. there are some grades that dealers won't even buy.

  • Awesome stuff, I love the original Iron Chef. Sakai #1!!!

  • MMAATTSSUUTTAAKKEE

  • MMMMAAAAAHHHHGHT - SUUUUUUUUUE - TAAAAAAAAAAAH - KAAEEE!

    lol. that was funny.

  • @Musiqking06 Ahh, Chairman Kaga~

    We love you so~

  • LOL! Chairman Kaga is so funny when he introduced the mushrooms. And did you guys see Sakai's expression? OOooooHHH!!!

  • It should come as no surprise that matsutake mushrooms are a symbol of manhood. My friend's mom said that she dreamed of matsutake mushrooms while she was pregnant and that's why she had a son. I was like... uh... okay.

  • Man, those are some expensive ingredients! What theme ingredient was the most expensive ever used in Iron Chef? Does anybody know?

  • The 100 year old abalone.

The abalone has hairs all over the shell and Chairman Kaga was all pissed about it.

  • Lol, why was Kaga pissed about it? Was it the hair or the price of the ingredients?

  • oh forgot to mentioned. It was the price.

  • nice
