This song makes me feel like Im driving around in the early 70's in one of those big ol 70's cars with some dudes and one has a affro like Jeffs, drinkin beers smokin a j and just goofin around lol, to bad I was just a tot in then early 70's
I can't help but laugh to myself everytime I listen to this song, because I know those guys MUST have had SO MUCH FUN recording it! IMO, this is the most fun song ON Out Of The Blue!
R.I.P. Kelly one of the best bass players and sensational back up voices I heard in Rock n roll GOD BLESS you Jeff, Kelly and all the rest of the guys ofELO your music will always live in our hearts and soul
This song cannot be listened to at a low volume. It HAS to be LOUD! There is just SO much going on inside the song! That's one of the wonderful things about it! Especially Jeff Lynne's Tarzan yell near the beginning!
Lyrics! (part 3 of 4) I said now please explain the meaning of this song you sing Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm "Wondrous is our great blue ship that sails around the mighty sun, and joy to everyone that rides along." They sang "Hooka chooka hoo la ley." (That's what they sang) "Looka looka koo la ley." (Ah, that night) And they danced! Pretty soon I knew the tune And we sat and sang under the moon And the jungle rang in joyful harmony
Lyrics! (part 2 of 4) A hundred animals were gathered 'round this night Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm And they were singing out a lovely song under the pale moonlight Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm I stood and stared for quite a while Then a lion sang to me and smiled "Come join us if you so desire." They sang "Hooka chooka hoo la ley." (That's what they sang) "Looka looka koo la ley." (In the pale moonlight) "Hooka chooka hoo la ley." (That's what they sang) "Looka looka koo la ley."
Lyrics! (part 1 of 4) Jungle Electric Light Orchestra (written by Jeff Lynne) I was standing in the jungle, I was feeling alright Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm I was wandering in the darkness, in the middle of the night Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm The moon began to shine, I saw a clearing ahead Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm But what's that going on, I think I'm outta my head Mmm-hmmm, mmm-hmmm Hooka chooka hoo la ley Looka looka koo la ley
@filsgreen The dancing bit in the middle was not done by a real dance troupe. It's actually Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan & Richard Tandy tap-dancing in the studio. In the album sleeve notes, it was credited to "Spratley's Dance Academy", but that was part of Lynne's humor. In the 70's, Lynne was known to use the alias "Spratley Bagweed" when checking into hotels.
Seriously, this is one of few songs in the world I would never get tired of if it lasted forever! I always get dissapointed when this song is over, those rythms is too cool to end!
I enjoy good music.... this is good music.. I enjoy this... I love rock and roll.. its the best sounding music in the world... fact... there is no dabate
The way I see it is in the late seventies the technology in the recording studios had reached the point where the quality of electro acoustic recording was as good as it was ever going to get,
By 1980 the computer technology was starting to take over digitally, and everything went down hill after that. Cheep and nasty.
Except for some pretty good music, the '70s was a nightmarish decade following upon the equally nightmarish '60s - war, assassination, political turmoil, inflation, gas lines, etc. The '80s, '90s, and '00s have been much better times, to be honest, though the quality of music seems to have declined rather dramatically.
I thought their album "Out of the Blue" was superb. I still play it. Jungle is up there amongst the very best tracks they recorded. Did they release this track as a single? Anyone know?
"Jungle" and "Mr. Blue Sky" are two songs that seemingly have been written with no hidden meaning, and with no other purpose, than to just listen along to and enjoy -- which I do!
lolsmurf1962 correction...you can easily drift away to any song on this album or any of their other songs...best of our times...and forever!! god bless ELO
Modern "Music" isn't music at all! I wish that at the end of the 70s,the70s had started (in an eternal time warp)all over again, then E.L.O. would be fresh & brand new forever!
yeah!! and you know what..i bet if ELO..and say led zeppelin, Pink floyd, The Stones...hmm and the beatles? woud have never sucsed today..at least thats what i think....
This is probably one of their best songs. Too bad only few have heard of it. From the cry of Tarzan and from the elephants to the beautiful harmonization found at 3:15. You just want to hear it over and over again. It keeps you coming back for more. Pure talent!
I saw ELO when "Out of the Blue" (the album this song came out on) was released. This was my fave song then and now. They were great in concert even tho they didn't play this song. But I have lots of memories from hi school driving around in my '74 Blue Maverick listening to this on 8-Track.
Am I the only one who loves the choreography in the middle 8? I think it is a Birmingham dance troupe. Very good, reminds me of the dance routine off Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
I thought I was the only person in the world who loves this song! It reminds me of when I was a child and my Dad used to play it, I now have my 11 year old daughter listening to it especially in the car, such a fun song makes me feel happy and young again.
I love this song. It was constantly played on a juke box in a pub in St. Ives, Cornwall, England when I was in my late teens and is certainly on the soundtrack of my life. Great memories.
