@rawmixable Hey. There are a couple of ways to increase your volume on your mic. If you are using Windows, go to your system's volume control. I believe it is a double-click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of your screen. Check the recording setting and make sure your mic 'record' volume is cranked up. There may also be a "db" boost check there. That will add more volume. In Audacity make sure the mic volume is up high as well. Let me know if this works for you?

@777Swag Somewhere you can enable the option "Software Playthrough" (I have the italian version so i don't know if the name matches in English). However there's a delay between what you play and you hear I did not figure out how to solve yet...

Yo for all those that have the problem with the little drop down window at 0:17, all you have to do is click on EDIT and go down to PREFERENCES, click on the AUDIO I/O tab and at the bottom check the small box that says "PLAY OTHER TRACKS WHILE RECORDING"

In that case i'm unsure as to what to suggest. I can only guess that for some reason, its blocked it out, whether this is because your computer only thinks there is ONE input/output source. I'm not sure. Sorry I can't be of any more help :(

Turning the volume down on the cassette deck lowers the volume of the recording which i could augment afterwards with the AMPLIFY feature but that's just more work.

Now for my question which I can't find online or from audacity help or faqs.

While recording my cassettes with audacity I use line-in and other sounds on my computer do not get recorded at the same time,,, but I don't want to hear the playback while I'm doing this.

Is there a way to turn the volume down so I can play other games or videos without the recording from my cassette being audible.

it was so simple to download and get running that you'll never regret it even if all you are doing is transferring your cassettes or vinyl to your computer library.

Use the hyperlink - direct link or check insdie the pop if you have a pop-up blocker. That's where the audacity program actually is.

I had the same problem the first time. The AVS AUDIO EDITOR is a trial version of another software and doesn't do all the amazing things you can do with audacity.

if i remember correctly the red bar on the left right corner will show you the input of volume on your recording.

Underneath this area is a small upside down triangle and if you click on this a menu should pop up that allows for more information like monitor input.

ok for everyone who is having problems with the box being greyed out i have a solution!! but only for vista users ok first you have to right click the sound icon on the bottom right corner of your screen then select recording devices. then right click below the devices and select show disabled devices and the stereo mix, enable it and disable the regular microphone the grey box will still be their but now when you hit record it will record hope this helps

Can you help me to retrieve back the meter toollbar (input and output audio level meter bars back into its place, some-how I was able to delete it from the upper right corner. If you have Vista you won't get the pulldown for Stereo Mix. Do this:

In Audacity, click Edit, Preferences, Audio I/O. (you might have to arrow-left to see Audio I/O). In Recording click Audio Sound Mapper. Make sure "Software Playthrough" is unchecked or you'll get echo.

In your computer's Realtek you must have "Stereo Mix" working. Right click on the speaker icon on your bottom tool bar. Click Recording Devices, disable everything except Stereo Mix and enable it.
