I'm a Blake fan but there's no way he is the best player not to win a Slam. I mean Andy Murray, Todd Martin, Marcelos Rios, Nikolay Davydenko...I'd even put guys like Ferrer, Berdych, Soderling, Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, and Ljubicic ahead of him. If you were talking about the player with the most wasted potential, I might put Blake on the top of my list. He was one of the most flashy, offensive players I've ever seen when he was on, but his downright refusal to play defense(especially on
This is one of those matches where Blake was on and plays at a high level. If Blake isn't having a good day his UF errors will be way up and he'll lose.
@og33pimp lol that's ridiculous. the ball basher blake is a very good player yes, takes balls on the rise well and rallies very good but he is in no way a better player than mardy fish,.
The difference with Blake from 2005-2008 to now (apart from the injuries) is that most of the 'go for broke' shots (especially the forehand) were goin in, now they aren't. Blake is a great shotmaker at times, but it seems to me like that is all he really is/was.
@davd1986 Spot on. Blake had some amazing shot making ability, but that was also his weakness. He always went for winners, and when he's playing well, the shots are going in, and when he's not they're all going out. That's why he was doomed to never Major tournament: he could never keep up that consistent level of strong play. Still, he was very entertaining and frustrating at the same time.
@JForcE777 Blake probably was the most inconsistent shot-maker out there he could unload on shots and they would go for winners but sometimes it was not his day and the unforced errors would kill him and that was ultimately his undoing.
Blake got robbed at 08 olympics....after he beat federer everything was set for him to win it all...the way he got robbed, everything just went downhill after that
@mechkapechka Davydenko hasn't won a grandslam for a reason. Same reason why David Ferrer will never win one. Nalbandian has the game to win one though, well he used too.
@zachkhan100 Nalbandian hasn't won a grandslam for a reason. Same reason why Blake will never win one. Davydenko has the game to win one though, hell he used too.
@StokaXXL i think murray is in with a shout. 3 finals, 8 from 9 masters a higher tour win % than nalbo by 4% at 76%. Also rios got to no1 and didnt win a slam, philippoussis and todd martin both made it to 2 slam finals. IMO i think murray is but talent wise nalbo is right up there such a shame
@BrainSane237 yeh, i think it may be the only reason why he hasnt won many grand slams, though he still should have won a couple. god i love his backhand
Ha, it's funny how the commentator (the female one) starts off hyper, kissing Nalbandians arse and as the match comes closer and closer to the end, her chat dies and dies...
this girl commentator can suck on my balls, she is really pissing me off with her biased favouritism towards Nalby. Otherwise I gotta say these two players are awesome, espicially Blake when he is playing like this, I hope he can back to this kind of level this year!
Imagine a player with Blake's forehand and Nalbandian's backhand...

@bobbypaulb (especially on the return of serve) inevitably caused him to beat himself. To me Blake=Great Talent and Horrible Tactics.

People tend to cheer Nalbandian's backhand, but in my personal opinion his best stroke is his forehand.

I'm very surprised that Blake beat Nalbandian. I really hate to say this but if Nalbandian would have made it to the final, he would have won!

MAN bring back the faster courts this is great to watch!

Why would Nalbandian KEEP on serving to Blake's forehand on the ad court after getting countless winners flown past him?!? Makes no sense.

@BrainSane237 You're right, his biggest weakness. He plays it with a huge margin for errors, never goes for the aces.

Many wrong decisions and bad strokes from David, unfortunately. As it happened during all his second half of 2006.
Still great tournament for Blake, he deserved it for the way he played it.
