  • hi, very nice review. is that the gloss or matt finished ? ( sorry for bad english )

  • nice review...but man...are you in a cave with the taliban? whats with the location?

  • @greggy16d Thanks. What would you like for a background? Please specify a color or colors. Thanks!!

  • haha, you look like the edge

  • I'm alright with that! :)

  • So u would go with Mango tenor over Mahog?

  • I haven't compared them. I've got a red cedar Mainland tenor. I can't help but think the Mango would sound amazing. Maybe Mainland can send you sound samples.?

  • Great comparison video Alan! Thank you for doing that. For those of us who haven't (yet) had a chance to hear a Mainland live, this video is a great way to hear what they sound like and the differences between them. I think I liked the Mango best, but they both sounded wonderful!

  • i gotta say i like the red ceder a bit more than the mango or mahongany(mispelled probably), i had a happier sound to it i think. i would wanna listen to cedar over the others while lyin on a beach

  • Thenx for Presentation end Musik Alen ! :-)

  • You are welcome!

  • that's one beautiful Mango... I like the fact that it does look very distinctive like a Mainland Uke. And you can still see its beautiful grain!

    wonderful

  • Yes, you can. Thanks!

  • Are you Mike new sales rep? ;o))

Bushman strings, on Mainland Uke?!? Traitor! ;o))

    Good review, thanks!

  • maybe that's why the Bushman strings are shredding. Can't take the full awesomeness of the Mainland!

  • Damn right! My Mainland soprano's so loud I have to play it with ear plugs! ;o))

  • Great review Alan. I envy your mainland collection - I don't have a single one! The mango sounds sweet, but I think I would go with the cedar, but soprano sized.

  • Thanks, R. The red cedars are wonderful.

  • I was expecting something a little different - I think I got too used to seeing the spalted mango Ponos. But it's still a beautiful uke and a great player! Your Mainland collection is still missing a few pieces of the puzzle ;)

  • Talk to hoosierhiver - get him on that! :D

  • You should ask the warden for early release.

  • That mango was sounding sweet! (Hear that Santa?) Thanks for the comparisons!

  • Sweet is the word.

  • You should play a full-sized guitar.

  • I'll leave that to you, since you're headed in that direction anyway... : P

  • that is great info. I'll definitely be thinking about the mainland concerts the next time I "need" another ukulele!

  • I like all the sizes, but I have tried the new baritones.

  • Really interesting comparison, Alan. the mango one has a well-balanced, rich sound. It looks good too.

  • Thank you, Ken. It's very light in weight too, which I like.

  • Interesting vid...food for thought for when the bug strikes again. Thanks!

  • I have a couple observations. First, it looks like you have moved down into the fall-out shelter. Im sure the wife said "enough is enough with all the ukes, get out". Secondly, This is a great vid Alan. No formal review here, just you talking about the ukuleles. This is good stuff. (I'll probably watch this several times). Thirdly, about the ukes, the mango doesn't look nearly as "pink" as it did in the mainland photos. (Thankfully). So now I'm more confused than ever. Maybe I'll blog about it.

  • Your essay is awaited.

  • thanks for the comparison vid AC! looking forward to the mellower sounding mango.

  • You need more mellow.

  • Good video and quite informative. I think I'll take the cedar one, please.

  • It's a beaut, isn't it?

  • I like the sound of the second one the best, it's just nice, but really they all are. Thanks for test driving them like this!

My ears perked up when you pronounced Aquila. I come to ukulele from Latin music (see my old videos) and I had a set of Aquilas on my charango for a while(I have cheap fishing line on it now), but I had always pronounced it like Spanish, "ah KEE lah". I never thought about how you might be supposed to say it in English, lol.

Now I'm scared to try saying D'addario...

  • It is a-KWEE-la and dad-ARR-ee-o.

  • I am allergic to mango.

(The new UAS, ukulele allergy syndrome.)
