I remember when this show was about to premiere, WNYW in New York did their own advertisement for the show, and emphasized that Wink Martindale was the host. They must have been that excited to have finally picked up a show that Wink hosted.
Winning two out of three games won the match. Winning two out of three matches meant a contestant was the champion, and the other contestant left the show when they lost two matches. A bonus round was played after each match. A contestant stayed on the show until they defeated five opponents or lost two matches.
I guess BOB QUIGGLY was the brain behind creating the games and Merrill Heatter produced. If you notice in 1980 Bob Retired and Heatter just produced:
I can't speak for the OP, but I was on this same show, and the taxes were pretty brutal. My total haul was about $60,000, but A: that's all in prizes, no cash, and B: that's by their estimation, which they inflated to make it seem more impressive.
I ended up simply not taking a lot of what I had won. Then I (meaning my mom; I was 19 at the time) had to find the fair market value of everything I did take, and I sold most of it to pay the taxes.
That's right. I lost once in the five shows I did. I *think* I had the highest "take" in the show's short run, because when I won the bonus round no one had done so for about three weeks, and the prize pool kept building up. :)
RSBowen, Sorry u had to sell it. The secret in game shows is that the "show" gets all the prizes, even if the players don't win then or accept them.
I cashed in nicely, and didn't have to pay any taxes on them because they were no longer prizes.
All the benefits of being on staff ;)

First off, it's Bob QUIGLEY.
Second, you neglected to mention "Bargain Hunters" and "Battlestars."
