  • you gotta love Fozzie. best commentator by far

  • 5 years later and it still send chills down my spine... AUSTRALIA <3

  • Thought the goal keepers would have caught on. Every Australian kick went to the same corner as did every Uruguay kick!

  • @stevop23 um you might wanna watch it again, Aloisi went right the others went left.

  • fozzie is such a legendary commentator. he gets so emotional i love it haha

  • Kind of hate the fact we are in Asia now, easy qualification now. I loved playing off against South Americas finest.

  • 46 people ara urugrian

  • I dare say that 46 people are not Australian?? Just a guess..

  • @Jetball74 Stop posting sad comments like this...

  • Still gives me shivers. I was there and watching that brings the emotion back.

  • there should have been a pitch invasion no one in that stadium wouldve cared.. wouldve been nuts

  • A great moment.

  • This still gives me goosebumps. And to do so well in the world cup just made it better. Uruguay are are great team, even better now. And I love them for what they did to Ghana in the 2010 world cup. Boy do i hate Ghana. They have the nerve to call us aussies weak, then can barely manage a draw with us. We had 10 men. They could only score from a penalty. Useless bastards. Cameroon are a much better african team.

  • I can't rate it 5 stars, but I'll sure as hell like it.

  • Australia had the advantage since they were in Australia but i can't believe Uruguay didn't qualify in 2006..but i didn't watch soccer back so i wouldn't understand back then

  • Do you come from the land down under !!! Thumbs up if you're from DOWN UNDER!

  • This just doesn't get old.

  • still makes me nervous

  • One of my greatest days

  • AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI!!!!!!!

  • uruguay made it to the semis 4 years later

    quite an accomplishment

  • @1488slav Glad they lost. Ghana should have made it and you know it. Your striker is a pathetic cheater.

  • @COMMANDERZEALOT1 i'm neither australia or uruguayan, i just enjoy football

  • @1488slav Me too mate. But I was just pissed when Ghana lost in the quarter final. Doesn't matter though. Ghana for 2014 ;)

  • @COMMANDERZEALOT1 please search on youtube for video "Ghana Vs Nigerian With White Lady (Bus Arguement) " and let me know what you think :)

  • @1488slav I lol'd ;)

  • What a crowd!

  • This is why i love Australia!!!

  • almost brings tears to my eyes! onya socceroos! we got cheated in 2006, we were outbeaten in 2010, but bring on 2014 brazil we will be ready and i can smell an upset!!!!!!

  • I was there and still every time i watch this i get nervous for australia Go the aussies!

  • harry kewell's hair was so gay back then

  • brings tears to my eyes everytime

  • Which tournament is this? haha :d

  • @sebbekung123 2006 World Cup qualifier. This put Australia through to the final 32

  • schwatzer is the real hero here

  • Fozz absolutly jinxed it for viduka

  • The atmosphere would of been epic

  • what a win. Schwartzer saved the day.

  • nowdays we would never beat uruguay

  • Best sporting moment is at 7.54 when Aloisi interupts celebrating the biggest moment of his sporting career to run across the field to console his then current clubmate at Osusana Richard Morales and to exchange shirts. What a true champion!

  • 2:18 the security guy in the background is classic!

  • 6:13

That save was so big, the screen suffered a quick seizure the next second

  • THUMBS UP IF UR FROM AUSTRALIA !! :D

  • This was amazing i was at the stadium. What a feeling of euphoria.

  • "and Guus Hiddink is a legend" AMEN TO THAT!!!!

  • los unicos que erran en uruguay son los re putos de peñarol hdputasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • 43 people come from Uraguay

  • Argh I remember this, it was awful, before we even got to this point my parents sent us all to bed! All four of us ended up lying awake in our seperate rooms, trying to hear...and when Mum and Dad started screaming we all came rushing out to see the Socceroos jumping all over each other! It was brilliant!

  • brings a tear to my eye every time

  • Craig Foster is a terrible commentator.

  • @whatsdoing23 It was so biased lol

  • @dvsandy It wasn't that biased. Think about it, Craig Foster was part of te 1997 qualifier when we were robbed against Iran and all he wants is for football in this country to succeed. He and every other football fan desperately wanted us to qualify for the Cup because the sheep who follow AFL will realise what a great game football is.

  • @SydneyFCPete WTF mate? I flollow the AFL because its what i grew up with and I follow the a-league because soccer/football is also what i grew up with, the reason why meblourne clubs get great attandences is because unlike you they are smart enough to be able to enjoy 2 great games for what they are.

  • Look at that...fuck Qatar, our World Cup wouldve been a million fucking times better.

  • @mitchy08mitch I dont like austrailians. They are criminals and the backward white race. I like Arabs and Qatarians. Am an Irish girl.

  • @SonyaOOOlights Why don't you fuck off this page then. I am Australian with Irish heritage ffs. You obviously have never been to this country to know what a friendly country we are.

  • I swear i will be watching this video occasionally till the day i die.

  • It's Neill, it's 2-Neill

  • fucking viduka

  • I remember seeing this on the news, followed by scenes of thousands of people dancing around to Land Down Under :D

  • one of the greatest moments in my life!

  • loser!!!!

  • @97511373 cunt!

  • one of the greatest sporting moments in Australian sporting history if not the greatest!

  • @hookee the greatest mate. The greatest.

  • @hookee It's a great watch but we're the top sporting nation in the world per capita - so qualifying for world cup isn't even remotely close to our greatest ever moment.

  • I was so nervous watching this just now, years later and even though I knew they won it! Haha. Schwarzer is a god!!

  • i wish i was there

  • "Here's Aloisi for a place in the world cup..." "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • ALOISIIIII

  • wow one of the best moments of australian sport

  • Schwarzer. Good egg. Get it up ya.

  • Craig Foster is a legend! Great commentary

  • never get tired of watching this, but god craig foster talks alot of crap sometimes

  • AUSSIES AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI YEAH SOCCEROOS!

  • fake

  • Socceroos are my favorite National Team after Uruguay. Good game and congratulations for the win. By the way, your Stadium is fantastic!

  • @uruguay152

Mate. You are a good egg.

  • @uruguay152 well done to you sir

  • 2:03 "FUCK YEAH!"

  • where was this played?

  • Comment removed

  • Fozzy lost his shit when Aloisi slotted that final penalty

  • that little bit of video lag when aloisi gets it in ruins the video

  • i think these commentators should have been a little less pro-uruguay.

  • That is a beautiful stadium. I wish FIFA would've seen Australia's potential more than hot-ass-can't-even-play-well-because-of-this-fucking-heat Qatar

  • @decade03

    lol thats true

  • fuck italy

  • harry kewell, pure class? oh dear me.

Good for australia though, much better than my awful england

  • @thebigeasy792 he was talking about his hair style

  • I remember this game. Im one of the 40 uruguay fans, and it was a good game that eliminated Uruguay from entering the WC, but Australia was a little better. I hold no grudges, but Uruguay where I was born, only has 3.5 million people and is currently ranked 7th in the world you gotta respect that.

  • fucking epic!! 40 people are uruguay fans

  • blz :)

  • Comment removed

  • lolll notice the sercurity guard behind the goals pumping his fists everytime australia get a goal :P lol

  • Schwarzer's second save was so good it fucked up the quality of the vid.

  • FUCKIN AWESOME

  • i still get goosebumps watching this :S one of my greatest nights of my life

  • Still get goosebumps watching this

  • bloody dukes! ya no lip bastard! nearly cost us!

  • Look at you fucking losers. Celebrating a shootout win to make it to your first world cup in 2006!!! And for what? At least when Uruguay goes to the world cup they do something, bunch of losers

  • @HansSmuth

They did pretty good in the WC to be honest...idiot.

  • @HansSmuth

I am Brazilian and I like Australian football and certainly has a lot to evolve since been continually gaining popularity in Australia

  • @HansSmuth 2nd world cup, if you are going to criticize for absolutely no reason at least get your facts straight you moron

  • People always underestimate the significance of this match against Uruguay. It revolutionised Australian sport and its reputation, a true milestone.

As for Mark Schwarzer, he is as big as it gets!

  • sheer clarsh

  • Australia kicked it to the same side like every time haha

  • HUGE save by Schwarzer - thats an understatement.

There hasn't been a penalty save like it before!

  • Tony Vidmar <3

  • Awesome...

  • great moment

  • It was good that Australia won that match. Socceros were fair winners. I hope we see you again but in a wolrd cup, not in a classification step. We are in peace now ;-). Greeting from Uruguay.

  • @nirvanandoo We are always in peace because we share your passion for the beautiful game. And to be honest, I was excitied at how well Uruguay did in South Africa. They played fairly in the tournament and Forlan scored some great goals, it was fun to watch.

  • I bet the 38 dislikes are from Uruguay

  • @RiceRhys You fuckin bet pussy

  • @RiceRhys I doubt it! We do not live in the past, like you guys who are still celebrating a penalty that is lost in time... Guess what, I wrote Uruguay, and this video is on top, but the messages are in English, not Spanish. We have you forgotten already about that penalty. For us, the only games that count are the 2010 WC... and for your information, in case you do not know, we got to the fourth place, and you??? You are still celebrating and old game that means nothing in history!!!

  • @yourugua2008 Here's something you don't know about our country: Football has to compete with two other dominant codes: Aussie Rules and Rugby. They're much more prominant in schools and in the media. Not to mention all the other sports we all compete at a high level, such as cricket, cycling, swimming, basketball, athletics, and that's just to name a few. So learn a bit about our country, our sporting culture and our football history before you decide to be a cunt

  • @operationmiller So what? Or do you think that in the rest of countries there are not other sports? We have basketball, cycling, tennis, swimming, polo, beach football, and many more... As I said... you guys are still celebrating sth. that is lost in time, and the worst is that it didn't mean much in football. I could understand you if you were celebrating being a World Champion... but just a game???

  • @yourugua2008 Although the Australian Football League as an organization has a few years. Maybe that's why all this euphoria for this victory. hehe Unlike us Latin Americans who have a great tradition in football.

  • @pabgomesara That's weird because you have English influence... you should have their football too!

  • @pabgomesara australian football is older than most professional leagues. Do your research bud.

  • @yourugua2008 We hadn't qualified for 32 years mate, that's why it was such a huge moment. For 32 years we watched the Socceroos fall at the final hurdle but finally we broke through into the World Cup. It's had lasting effects on the Australian people, football is now the most played sport in the country. For us, with where the game was at the time in the country (basically dead), this was as important as winning the world cup.

  • @shallawoop I saw the Socceroos games in the crown of 2010. If it were not for the evictions and had not played the first online game with Germany to Australia is not taken so many goals, and may well have passed to the next phase.

  • @yourugua2008 You should probably look up Aussie Rules football especially the AFL. It is huge in Australia, and bigger than football is in Brazil, nearly as big as baseball in USA, and it takes away a lot of talent that would probably go to our national team. So for us football fans in Australia, this win nearly as big as your world cup win in 1950. And I know you're all still celebrating that, and with good reason. It's a lot more than just a game

  • Let me put it this way. Australia has almost 22 million people, let's say 90% play the sport you mention. You still have 2.2 million people, right? That was about Uruguayan's population when we won WC 1950 against Brazil with probably 100 million people then... (Today Brazil has almost 200 million), and we are only 3.5 million people today. So, how much talent in less than 5 million can we get for ALL the sports played in Uruguay? Make your math! So, your comment can not be sustained!

  • @yourugua2008 Pathetic! Obviously you have no understanding of what this 'game' meant. Not many Aussies give a damn about pathetic comments such as yours, qualifying for the world cup completely revived football in Australia. 32 years was the last time we had been there, many of us weren't even born when the 1974 World Cup was played. What sort of mischievous little imp are you to trash talk another culture?

  • @SpawnofChaos2010 Pathetic is to celebrate something already forgotten and not important for the World Cup. And pathetic it is to blame somebody of something the person didn't say. What makes you so mad? That I do not share your point of view? Do you think your case is different than others? Come on! All the countries have sports that are not so popular, and when they get the chance to play it and win, everybody is happy, nobody denies that... but keep celebrating just a game? That is pathetic!

  • @yourugua2008 Actually dude, many of the things we've said may or may not be pathetic but without doubt, something truly pathetic is the list of arguments you have created on this post with other people... if it's just a game why are you so hung up about it? How many teams lift trophies each year? Less than 5% at domestic level, less than 1% at international level. Therefore, the real heart of football or any other sport isn't the silverware, it's the games the neutral fans forget.

  • Comment removed

  • @yourugua2008 Means nothing? Maybe it doesn't mean anything in Uruguayan history but in Australian history, this is one of the most defining moments in Australian sport. This is when we came of age, it's when we finally stood up and made the world take notice.

  • @yourugua2008 This was just the beginning, if you watch the videos of our 2006 world cup games, you'll see that everyone is still celebrating those just as much as this one. We weren't meant to even take away a point from the cup, everyone wrote us off, said we were making up the numbers but what happened? We made to the last 16 and a 50/50 call went against us to knock us out. We matched it with the best, and we still do.

  • fucking mark viduka! made my heart stop for a few minutes.

  • Dont even like soccer but this is one of the proudest moments of Australian sporting history, it brought the nation together.

  • That second save by Schwarzer with his trailing hand is one of the best penalty saves ever. So hard to react that quickly when already over-committed. He got us there

  • Couldn't FIFA see the passion we have for Jogo Bonito? But they chose to follow the money to Qatar with a population of 1.6 million? Horrible choice... fuck sepp blatter

  • @tseebsic amen brother

  • 33 people are from Uruguay

  • @ozzradd or italy

  • Great moment. It's a shame that this video doesn't include a short clip of Bresciano scoring the only goal of the game. After all, while Aloisi got the limelight, Australia won this game 1 - 0 to force penalties, and few people remember who scored that goal.

    Thankyou Mark Bresciano!

  • MARK SCHWARZER

  • Lmfao w/e, at least Australia contributes more to the world than just sport.

More than what I can say for U r gay

  • Mark Schwartzer is shouting "FUCK YA!" after stopping the first Uruguay shot

  • a qualifed need penalty ???? replace with round of 16 match

  • i like craig foster

  • i hate craig foster so fucking much

  • craig foster is a dickhead

  • Greatest single moment in Australian international sport.

Simply because for that night the whole of our country was united, and for that kick 20 million Australians held their breath.

  • LOL URUGUAY

Who the fuck are they? WOW you won the world cup in 1934 and 1950. GREAT effort.

  • @stkildaftw also they won Olympics 1924 1928, also they won 14 south American cups and are the nation with more titles in the world (more than Brazil) same as Argentina, also they ended up 4th place in the last world cup 2010 and are ranked within the top 8 countries in the world according to FIFA and also they are the country with less population (less than 3 million) and number one exporter of class A professional football players (all in top European leagues) and who are you dick head?

  • @TancoMartin

URUGUAY didnot prove anything this last WORLD CUP !

Their football is dirty since the 80's !

    URUGUAY has no merite

  • @stkildaftw Uruguay has more gold medals than the amount of australian participation in the WC :P

  • One of the commentators is pretty bad.

  • @ChrisBromley

That would be that fag Craig Foster

  • like this if u like soccer

  • Uruguay vs ghana...damn...

  • fozzie worst commentary

  • harry kewells hair is woefull
