TruthThroughResearch: Canada could become economically independent in the same sense that you could become economically independent by growing your own food, making your own clothes, ect. The problem is by isolating ourselves from the world economy we would suffer a reduction in our standard of living just as you would by isolating yourself from the local economy.

Maybe you feel independence would be worth a reduced standard of living but let's not kid ourselves, there would be a cost.
