I watched a in depth full documentary of the re union of gerald and nigel ben after ten years since the fight. the doctor that was in charge of the night that analsed him after the fight told channel 4 " there was clear sighns of brain damage after 12 rounds of harsh beating to his head. yes, the head butt made it worse probably, but the doctor said in the scan, brain was heavly bruised. But I respect gerald. he was a fighter. hats off to the brother

90% of Collins' wild swings in the clips from that fight missed completely. Collins faced Benn and Eubank at the right time, and knew it was the wrong time for him to face a young Calzaghe so retired as Benn should have done rather than face Collins. Eubank stepped in to face Calzaghe,
Never really liked Collins.....always thought there was something in his water....talentless as a boxer....who did he fight in their prime? I liked Benn and Eubank for various reasons....that age is gone forever. I remember watching the Benn-Eubank fight I, the Eubank-Watson fight, the Benn-McClellen fight....all classics....it's all abit crappy these days.
To give Collins his due he did go in overseas with Mike McCallum and Sumbu Kalambay who were top men in their prime, although he lost on points to both. McCallum had won all his fights at the point except a loss to Kalambay, and had beaten Herol Graham, Julian Jackson, Milton McCrory, Don Curry, plus Michael Watson in the next fight after Collins. Also Eubank was unbeaten at the time Collins beat him and Colllins is 2yrs older than Eubank, although Eubank was past his best.
Eubank was pulling his punhces after the Watson fight....so I think Collins beat half a man that night. Oh Herol Graham....so frustrating..all talent but just unlucky - and no defence! And then he met Jackson....what a KO. I miss the Prince TBH....not a bad bone in him, daft as a brush, wonderful entertainer....but no real mindset. One defeat and he loses it - should have been the greatest ever...unrivalled power, bizarre angles/reach and speed. And the powers that be want us to ppview garbage!

Benn was a great fighter, and opened doors for the likes of Eubank and Collins to earn 1mill purses that never happened in this country apart from the heavyweights. he also never lost to a yank and also won both world titles in different country's WBO america, WBC Italy how many british fighter can say that, he also made 9 successful defences of his WBC Super middle weight belt not a rubbish WBO belt but a WBC belt.

I completely agree with what you said about Benn. Nigel was an exciting fighter to watch but he was also a dirty fighter in the ring. He would rabbit punch & hit opponents when they were already down on the canvas. Hell, I lost track of how many rabbit punches he throw to the back of McClellan's head in their fight. The referee in that bout was a total JOKE & should've lost his job right after that fight.

He carried the flag and the expectations of the country with him when he fought, and he NEVER let us down, he gave everything, a real lionheart! 90% of Collins' wild swings in the clips from that fight missed completely. Collins faced Benn and Eubank at the right time, and knew it was the wrong time for him to face a young Calzaghe so retired as Benn should have done rather than face Collins. Eubank stepped in to face Calzaghe,

To give Collins his due he did go in overseas with Mike McCallum and Sumbu Kalambay who were top men in their prime, although he lost on points to both. McCallum had won all his fights at the point except a loss to Kalambay, and had beaten Herol Graham, Julian Jackson, Milton McCrory, Don Curry, plus Michael Watson in the next fight after Collins. Also Eubank was unbeaten at the time Collins beat him and Colllins is 2yrs older than Eubank, although Eubank was past his best.

Eubank was pulling his punhces after the Watson fight....so I think Collins beat half a man that night. Oh Herol Graham....so frustrating..all talent but just unlucky - and no defence! And then he met Jackson....what a KO. I miss the Prince TBH....not a bad bone in him, daft as a brush, wonderful entertainer....but no real mindset. One defeat and he loses it - should have been the greatest ever...unrivalled power, bizarre angles/reach and speed. And the powers that be want us to ppview garbage!
