@SteveSabbai Their is .That race is called hummanity. not now but in time. q said it himself that hummanity will advance even beyond the qs. i dont recall what episode though.
@ZKY2 If we, as humans can not achieve greatness without changing who we are as a species, then how can we, as 'enhanced' beings hold onto our humanity?
This is definitely my favorite episode ever. I think it revealed real depth to Q's character and Data's as well. Prior to this I think Q was just a misanthrope. But after it was clear there was more to him.
@jordanNism, wesly doesnt have family ties on the enterprise with the captain. he's and engineering prodigy (according to a memeber of a superior race) and so picard grans him to be an acting ensign 'and heavy on the study' in order to train wesly quickly. and he doest stomp all over the efforts of pple who earned their rank coz he earns his rank by the having the intelligence he owns (which picard was aware of)
@DSWrath I agree: without emotions there would be peace. But wouldn't the world be dull without such emotions love, anticipation, happyness, surprise.... ?
That is where people have to check the positive versus negative advantages to either having emotions or not having them. We need to look out for the greater good and what the history has taught us if anything besides that we are most capable of hate, anger, and vanity. Even without emotions our mind would still be subjected to having conscience to show the necessary human quality such as the love and care you have for your kids, spouse, family, and friends.
@msinvincible2000 well, perhaps its only 'dull' to those who can view such a world through the lense of emotions? imagine a race of unfeeling machines; would they describe their world or existence as dull? no, for they cannot feel such a thing, or anything. likewise the irony is a world without emotions is dull only to those with the capability to FEEL dullness and boredom; the those emotionless beings, it simply is. no more.
Yeah, those "human emotions aren't what they are cracked up to be"...until you become human and start boohoo-ing and whining like a little bitch, Q-tard.
Q: "Ponies, pegasus, and unicorns aren't any fun, either. So much harmony. So much boredom. Pray Jean-Luc never forces you to take shore leave on Equestria."
I am convinced that Q is not really as inteligent as he says he is. He may have great knowledge and perspective that we can't fathom, but in many ways he is an idiot. Now sure, you can pull the "he's just so far above your level that you don't get it" card, but the fact is that his arguments are often contradictory and undeniably illogical. So unless his goal is not to win arguments or seem inteligent but to somehow influence us towards an unknown end by acting like an idiot, he's not so bright.
@waldoman7 Well he's being played by a human and invented by one, as well. He obviously not really omniscient at all. In fact, he's the result of typical low IQ human reasoning, believing that "humans" are this or that, when the difference between individual people are far too variable too be accurately put into one box.
@waldoman7 I like the idea, as presented in "All Good Things...," that everything Q ever did, every little adventure, was merely a way of testing humanity for it's eventual evolution.
Of course that's broken by this episode, with Q *actually* having lost his power through scenes of him alone with another Q. He "learned a lesson" this episode, which, really, he should be far beyond learning.
@Flobbyoiboyz Wouldn't be surprised. Usually the clothing of the 24th century is nicer on the eyes, and certainly less drab than what Q is forced to wear in this episode.
@Flobbyoiboyz According to you, yes. However, according to his way of viewing the universe it may actually BE flattering, or simply not something one should care about at all ;)
@Flobbyoiboyz He WAS an amazingly powerful being, but this is the episode where he got kicked out of the Q and forced to be an ordinary human, so he had to wear whatever Picard and his people gave him.
@Flobbyoiboyz In this episode he was human (if I don't mix up the episodes) and the suit was given to him by starfleet. I guess Picard ordered: Make it as ridiculous as possible!
@Flobbyoiboyz in all fairness it wasnt his choice, when he materialized he was naked, and in this scene he HAS no powers, he was given dress from picard who im sure gave him extra unflattering clothes...
@Flobbyoiboyz This was the episode where he lost his powers. Thus, Picard made him wear an ensign's uniform. It's the lowest uniform possible on the ship. It's a sharp contrast to the Captain's uniform he wears any other time he shows up.
It's civilian garb, not a Starfleet uniform. You don't wear an ensign's uniform unless you are a commissioned officer, meaning you graduated Starfleet academy or were granted a battefield commission.
This is partly why so many people hate the character of Wesley Crusher. He stomped all over the efforts of the people who actually earned their rank, rather than being granted privileges because they have family ties to the captain.
@JordanNism starfleet academy isnt the only way to gain promotions. Starfleet academy is like our westpoint, but just because you dont go to westpoint doesnt mean you cannot earn promotions from the rank and file.

They seek to improve themselves and seek to improve knowledge..
But they agreed to terms with the Romulans to specifically outlaw their own creation and advancement of cloaking technologies.
And also outlaw genetic enhancements/engineering.
And also appear to have not stepped into cybernetic enhancements either.
Seems like they're more than willing to hold themselves back.

Human emotion is irrelevant. We as people would be better off if we could find a way to suppress all emotions and we would reach higher plateau.
