3 point difference with 7 minutes to go? I won't question the technical, but a game that close with so much time left on the clock, the technical didn't cost you anything...
the thing i find weird is why did the ref want the ball at the baseline anyway? they would need to advance the ball to shoot the free throws so it does seem a bit strange, and yeah delay of game warning or something
@TheMattswish the black team missed the shot, just so you know. also, the black ref was dealing with the foul/score board, so the appropriate play was to give the ball to the other ref. That was just a bad technical call by the black ref, but an even worse job by the white ref for not telling his partner what had happened. but then again, both refs are overweight and probably know little about how to ref an aau, high school, or college game.
Yeah, I noticed that they missed it after I commented on it when I re-watched it.
You can't say it was an even worse job by the white ref, because he clearly went over to the other ref and told him something, which we will never know what he said exactly, BUT refs (from all sports and all divisions) tend to not like to change their calls AFTER they already made them. Maybe he admitted his mistake to the black team after the game.
Really? That technical with more than 7 minutes to go in a 3-point game cost you the game? Not your non-existent defense? Your inability to shoot? No, it must be the ref's fault.
I umpire adult baseball and get the same BS from over-the-hill guys who need somebody to blame for their own shortcomings. Officials are always an easy target.
@bigyaz That's kind of a copout. Yes, there's plenty of time left. And no 1 is blaming the ref for missing a shot. He's blaming the ref for a suspect tech. A ref isn't thinking about the score at all. Nor is he worried about the time unless there's a violation. The ref is concerned with what's happening between the lines during plays. You ref at the end of a game in the same way you ref at the beginning. The guy isn't harping at the ref. He's saying that rolling the ball isn't wanton of a tech.
@bigyaz I didn't accuse you of misinterpreting anything. I said that officiating must be consistent no matter what point in the game it's done. What I didn't say but meant to imply is that players have use the same philosophy. You don't swallow the whistle. I also said his issue is with the ref making a suspect call; which it was. But as a ref, you don't get to make the determination about a player's skill level or his motives. You just call the game.
@upabittoolate OK, my last try here. You said, "And no 1 is blaming the ref for missing a shot. He's blaming the ref for a suspect tech." No, he's blaming the ref for, as he explicitly said in his description, "costing us the game."
I don't care if you think the tech was justified or not. My point is simply that you can't say the ref cost you the game when you're talking about a single technical foul with seven minutes left in the game. To me that's just weak, looking for someone to blame.
@bigyaz Being a bad shooter doesn't validate challenging a call or a no-call. But it's appropriate to challenge a call when there's not an infraction. The guy gave the zebra the ball & ran downcourt. How is THAT a way of expressing anger with his own lack of skill?
this is a bad technical... he called a foul on black 24 with a push. therefore red should get the ball on the baseline. the black player somewhat rolled the ball to the ref on the far side, no reason for a technical foul. unless there was a warning prior to that.
the ref that calls the foul goes to the bench and switches ends with the other ref...THATS WHAT YOU DO. this ref obviously was too lazy to switch ends and had it predetermined in his evil mind to screw over the black team. the amount of training for basketball officiating for what they make an hour is not even comparable to "crappy jobs" like a fast food joint. This ref should hang up his whistle because he put himself before the best interest of the players. crappy ref.
doesnt mean it made you lose the game. you cant rely on the refs for your whole game. you gotta work at it. and you guys werent even talking on defense or offense, either one. bad communication.
The foul was on the red team player who pulled down the player on the black team who got the offensive rebound so the ball should go to the black team. A good technical foul.
@pcorf a good technical foul?? have you ever reffed basketball?? giving the ball to theref that BY THE BOOK should be the one giving the ball to the inbounding team IS NOT WORTHY OF A TECHNICAL. IN NO CASE WHATSOEVER should giving the basketball to an official be called a technical, especially when the official is coming to you to receive the ball and go to where he should be.

if there was a delay of game warning before this point, then the black team player would be assessed a technical foul for delay of game

Ummm..... Not sure what your taught, but around he the REFS make it VERY clear NOT to touch the ball after YOUR team scores.
So grabbing the ball and running away with it would have been called a technical foul here.
