@colonelmusturd02 - It is not Dave's band at all, read up on them a bit you'll realize that the name of the band is because when they first played at a local bar he said to just put Dave Matthews down on the sheet and she automatically put band after it, and since then it stuck. They were all founding members of the band and they did think that it may give more attention to dave but they stuck with it.

Espacially his hi hat approach is key too carter as opposed too his great fills and hand strokes, Also love the ghost notes he uses it alot during 02:30, and hes prob one of the greatest people i have ever met (met him in san fran !!!!) just what he does is amazing espacially his double bass kinda makes him seem like a metal drummer but hes much more then that hes groove techneique and just amazing!!

You guys are idiots! Saving Space has nothing to do with it. It's all in his approach to the music. Not only can he and does he use double bass in mostly all of his songs, he does it in the right places... Now that he's older he doesn't necessarily seem to do it all the time, hence the gloves... the age i mean.. he does what's best for the music as opposed to doing it because it sounds good

Carter is my idol and I am able to play open handed the same way carter does...once you open that up and watching this, this drum solo is actually quite easy! I mean it looks and sounds amazing but its just a lot of ghost notes as well as his signature single roll's and the randomness of the kick! I have been able to open that door in my playing and can produce sounds just like this. Its his attitude and emotion that creates the drama and aww of his playing! Plus the gum!

Sorry, but Travis looks like he is very tired when he plays and he's more nervous. Carter is a classplayer, chill, technique and fun (gum). Travis will never be so technique drummer as Carter. Let's not ever forget what drums primary purpose is: to groove. Pure and simple. It is to accompany the music and add embellishments where needed or where it would heighten and add to the music. If you can't give mad groove on drums then how can you call yourself a drummer. It's been said before, but I'll say it again; It's the music that compels me to play drums and not necessarily vice versa. Groove is God. Pocket is King. Amen.

I don't think it's exclusively a Carter thing.Yeah,to be accurate,I used my remote DW 9000 HiHat and kept the pedal on my left foot and the ran the hats to the right hand side,so it wasn't "truly" a left handed set-up and I played in an open handed style.Left handed ride patterns were interesting though!

It seems to be some universal question amongst musicians and non-musicians alike. What I will say is, how well can you adapt to different genres of music?
