I agree battery cages are inhumane. But banning the cages is a band-aid on the wound. "Cage-free" or "free range" birds are simply piled atop each other. Although I sympathize with efforts to improve their living conditions, I think perhaps banning intensive farming may be a more appropriate way to approach this. Slavery shouldn't be presented in the most comfortable way for the consumer. We don't need to eat animals, they suffer, it harms the planet.
