@Xrball It was partly Anakins fault Xr. He was full of anger and power hungry. Palpatine (The Emperor) knew Anakin for years and they trusted eash other. Palpatine did tell Anakin lies about Obi-Wan and the Jedi and it did lead him to distrust the Jedi more. The Jedi also took part in his betrayal because they didn't think he was ready to be a Master, which angered him. He basically joined the Dark Side after he killed Master Windu for attempting to muder the Emperor. That was Anakins fault.

I always liked to think it was the Emperor's own way of 'intensifying' the anger and the hate that Anakin would have. Clearly Anakin's not able to think straight, or see right from wrong at this point, so the pain he endures on the medical table only helps focus his hatred, essentially making him more powerful.
