The diagram on any given drive is enough to go by, but Maxtor branded ones uses two jumpers stock, and I can't get mine to read, when I removed them for whatever reason, the data seems stuck on it, showing as corrupted when it did read. I'm trying to save it, it's a 30GB Maxtor, 2000 vintage

@GodOfSlain0 IDE can be had cheap, not as cheap as SATA anywhere, but place it against PATA 2.5 laptop drives, those things are as pricey as gold per ounce... DOLLAR A GIG thereabouts

ok i just got a 2.5" Sata Hard Drive to USB 2.0. and i CANNOT find the jumper for the life of me!!! there isnt even a diagram to show where the jumper needs to be =[[

You made a mistake. You said Cable select make the middle drive master and the end drive slave. This is backwards. The drive at the end of the cable is Master, the middle is slave.

If you're using SATA, it's quite easy. IDE on the other hand, you'd need a RAID controller.
