  • Tommy Bell was so "capable" that he knocked Sugar Ray Robinson down and was well ahead on points at the halfway point in their fight for the welterweight title.

Robinson had to fight like hell to get back in the fight and eke out a decision.

I would call Tommy Bell's performance in that fight quite "capable."

    I'm sure Robinson would too.

  • @marcxopoco I've heard many felt Bell deserved the decision and won that fight. Robinson is quoted as saying that Tommy Bell was "a killer". Tommy Bell was a fighter that nobody wanted to face. This is great footage of two great champions.

  • @TheChoice264 , This is great to actually see Tommy Bell.

He was taller than Robinson. Robinson often had trouble with fighters as tall or taller than he was.

(Tommy Bell, Randy Turpin, Maxim, etc.

Bell was a welterweight but to get fights he fought above his weight class against middleweights.

No one else gave Robinson as hard a fight as a welterweight, did they?

  • @marcxopoco The hardest puncher Ray Robinson ever faced was Artie Levine..

  • Can't argue with that.

Sure would like to have seen that fight.
