Okay, if you are a Christian, though we are "free" from the law, we are supposed to love Jesus Christ, and have the "Law" written on our hearts. The first commandment is to Love the Lord God and Him only. The Minerva is a Greek goddess, so I think that having emblems with this symbol is not quite a delight to God. The second commandment, which Jesus points out and emphasizes, is to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. That eliminates thinking that you and yours are superior to anyone else.
im not apart of a sorority but i have three generations before me that have became beautiful women of AKA i feel alot of what your saying but one thing you said which made me decide to comment was why is it a secret growing up in a family of greeks i have been told that the secrets seperates you from being and AKA (EXAMPLE) if you know all the rituals secret hand shakes what seperates you from being and AKA when you join you then are let in unto the secrets your opinion was a nice view tho
2)I went to a church were the mens leader was an open fornicator and nobody cared because he had a degree and that tithe check was coming in! These frats keep you in love with the world!
1)Look most black people who go to these schools and join frats r not going to let it go! I went to a step show or some show where they introduce new members, and all I could think of was where was God in any of this? I think ppl take this very serious. A little too serious. So joining a frat or sorority explains your relationship with God? Because you pledge it means that my relationship with God is not right? People no one can tell you what your relationship with Him is like. He gave you a brain, if you know something is not right, then simply leave. It's all what you do. I think it's ok. I joined my sorority bc of its mission, history, service, expectations (high moral & ethical standard), & the women in the sisterhood. I've never been beat, had to sexual things, or any other negative experience. You talked ab sharing your testimony. I've told ppl how being a member of a BGLO has helped me. That aspect isn't private. I don't have brands. No one is made to get branded though. It's a choice & God also gives us choices in life (freewill).
@PearlfectJourney I also wanted to say that I had been saved 10+ years when I joined my BGLO. Trust me, I was not going to allow myself to get hit or do anything that I know goes against my upbringing, values, &/or morals. I don't get down like that. :) I think it also depends on the person. Anyone can make anything an idol. It's all about how you treat and value that 'thing.' I think Christian sororities are different but could be good. I haven't had much contact with them. So, don't quote me.
With all that being said, I feel as though, (no offense), non Greeks or people who were not far enough along in their Christian walk when they joined made this videos... I feel as though you can't speak on issues that you have not experienced. I love my sorority. I have had good and bad times with it... But I've grown as a woman and as a Christian.

@MissOctober18th John 8:7 says he who is without sin casts the first stone. So who are you to judge anyone in a BGLO or anyone for that matter. Everyone's process is different. However, I don't feel it's right to participate in anything not pleasing to God sight to join these organizations. First of all I didn't PLEDGE a fraternity I joined one, I never pledge my allegiance to Omega I joined Omega, I pledge my soul to Christ Jesus and it will forever be that till the day that I die, or will I; because believe it or not I don't see death anyway in Christ so...but there are a lot of goods things about Fraternities and Sororities and most people who are in them belong to Christ as well, but always remember before there was any such thing as Fraternity there was Jesus the second Adam!

BGLO's are cool for what they do. The issue is the claim that BGLO's are based off of christian principles, and that is not so. As far as the issue of some members renouncing their letters and active members defending their org, that is a personal matter been that person and Jesus Christ. I just want to say that I joined DELTA in 07, I loved what it stood for, the unity, the bond, and much more. I did underground pledging, wanted to do things the real way. I later on graduated and left to be with family. Got saved and started to read the Bible and start my journey of righteousness not thinking anything of Delta. I still loved it and cherished it. Furthermore, branding is a choice -in most cases ..in cases which it is not, that is indicative of the problem i mentioned earlier about individual actions and not being uniform and things not being condoned by the orgs or by law. As for the networking, it may help on occasion, but it's more about the effort you put in. someone may have a general idea of the type of person u may be, what principles you value b/c of ur membership, but you are certainly NOT handed a job or given just anything.
. but to re-emphasize secrecy is mostly due to liability issues if membership processes and selection were open there'd be so many lawsuits of people who dont get in (some may have a case some may not) Also if every aspect of the org was open to the public what would be the purpose of joining? the idea is to have a bond with the bros./sis. of the org..the concept is of bonding due to shared experience.

The 'pledging' you described isnt universal or endorsed by the orgs - those are actions & decisions of the individuals. I think people give frats/sorors. too much credit for being uniform - which they arent. The secrecy is due to both legal (the main reason) and maintaining the integrity of the org.

Sorority and fraternities are not of Christ simply because of the nature in which they were founded (occultism) and most importantly, the things that are done within them. @OohLaLaHolly I don't know if you ever joined one, but GPA is not the only requirement that gets you in a frat/sorority..I know NOT mine..if that's the case, then I wouldn't be in it, so to say that is false and incorrect!! It's true that scholarship is a requirement, but you have to be well rounded with other things besides a point avg. I can't speak for others except mine, and I know scholarship just isn't it! It takes quite a bit more.
@Sulls2Cold saw this old comment...figured i'd respond anyway. each one is different but the only thing i'll say regarding exclusivity is this: at some churches, one has to participate in the membership orientation class before becoming a member. basically a few weeks of sunday school classes. non-members can't vote on official church business or attend business meetings. with christian sororities/frats that are similar i c no problem as long as there is NO pledging/secrecy/oaths.
As far as the "brand" - whats the difference between brands and tattoos, scars, marktings etc. it is a representation of whatever the person wants. If I get a tat of an Angel does that make it so?...If i get a brand, does it means that I have now idolized a man made org and it now owns me...NO!!! As far as privacy,here's why....If i have a job at a company and we have trade secrets and you work for a competitor's company, "Why would i ever divulge trade secrets to an outsider?"
This is what I'd like to say about joining fraternities or sororities.

Well I am apart of a greek letter org and it's not part of the nphc but it's standards is under the nmgc and in the fact I am muslim so on that level I couldn't join the divine 9 orgs because of my religion. I am a christian who happens to be a member of a Greek Letter Organization as well. I joined my fraternity for many reasons. One was because I wanted an outlet to be active in my campus while in college and continue once I graduate. There are a multitude of other reasons. Strolling, Stepping, and partying were not reasons for joining. To gain membership into my frat did involve a process but nothing was of a sexual nature, there was nothing degrading.
I am a member of a Greek lettered organization, and I am a Christian. I personally believe that anything that you join, whether it's a Greek organization, social clubs, honor societies, anything can hinder your relationship with God if you allow it to do so. I was saved when I joined my sorority, and I still love God and learning to love Him more everyday. Yes, they are very secretive, but so are a lot of other organizations.
These secret societies are paganistic, being beat with a paddle or stuck with a pin or do sexual things is just like being jumped into a gang! I'm Muslim and I would never join that. From the Boy scouts who are baby masons to the frats to the Sors to the actual mason is totally brainwashing to keep a secret society running.
Its not just the branding and the other material stuff, its the whole greek god/goddesses thing that I have a problem. If it were just a bout being in a "club" with no mention of greek gods/goddesses, then that would be different. But I agree with 'Neechy'-when you have CHRIST, HE is allllll that you need. Connections for jobs? That job that you are desperately seeking, but having a hard time getting might be because GOD has something else in store for you like ur own business. Think about it.
Maybe you should talk to some people who are members of these different organization who are saved and interview them and get their point of view. Our organizations were founded to help men and women of color. We promote education, service, brotherhood and sisterhood as well as uplift. If you did not know that in most of organization a lot of our members are Pastors, Chaplains and men and women of the cloth. I think you need to do more research on why we chose to become Greek! I have been a member of my frat for 10 years and I don't have a brand or tattoo or anything like that. I enjoy being in my org. In my organization Prayer is a big part of it Any and everything we do starts and ends with Prayer. So for you to say that we are bad or evil or back sliding is wrong.

I think you're mixing up gossiping with righteous judgment. To judge, one must do it with love, its not condemning. Its showing them their mistakes and faults to correct them. okay so I have a lot to say about this one. First I am a believer. I love God. I have a brother who pledged to the little brother club under a well known fraternity. I was upset when he joined I felt it to be wrong. He was only in the 5th grade and impressionable. The bible states "come out from amongst them and be ye seperate." So why is it that you'd join something that doesnt fully embrace Christianity? Several activities are contradictory to Christ like behavior. Therefore it is wrong.

Okay, if you are a Christian, though we are "free" from the law, we are supposed to love Jesus Christ, and have the "Law" written on our hearts. The first commandment is to Love the Lord God and Him only. The Minerva is a Greek goddess, so I think that having emblems with this symbol is not quite a delight to God. The second commandment, which Jesus points out and emphasizes, is to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. That eliminates thinking that you and yours are superior to anyone else.

I am big on the principle in which the org was established for 100 years ago. I know my chapter is big on community service. I don't need an org to do community service but there is strength in numbs. a lot of you all are with all of these conspiracy theories just like with illuminatti. People say anyone who is successful must be apart of it somehow. It's really this simple people. If it's not your cup of tea don't be bothered with it. But you all seem to be a bit consumed. Everyone's experience is different. I was never beat. I pledged over 6 years ago and I am still extremely close with my line sisters. Again, if you don't agree simply don't do it. It's that simple folks.

it's about networking and establishing life long friends. This may not be your cup of tea but to sit here and downgrade what you don't know about is simply ignorant. It's a choice. A lot of greeks also join b/c it's a family legacy. It's a legacy deeply rooted within the black community. Dr. king, Rosa Parks just to name a few are apart. I in no way shape or form worship anything other than Jesus Christ. This simply sounds like bitterness from people that couldn't get in....truth.

apart of these same organizations that are SO demonic and so evil. To add to that there are many minster and deacons that are free masons. again the not knowing and misunderstanding leads to all the vids smh. We take pride in it. brands arent anything but greek tattoos if your going to talk about people abusing their body u might as well mention those with tattoos, drug, etc. Their are gang members with tattoos shooting and killing people but no one seems to care about them and their influence and they seem to have WAY more influence then ANY soror or frat. Its take a strong person to want to be apart of a fraternity or sorority because of the tempations that go along with it when u get in. If u dont think you cant handle them DONT JOIN. I mean u dnt c people throwin the "dnt pledge" scriptures 2 those who take pledges 2 become a chief n the navy or the oath u take 2 become a doctor, or the oath every american has taken;the pledge of allegiance! I'm not saying all fraternities are bad but from what I've seen in videos and in person, it didn't seem like any of them had the holy spirit. Have you ever met a soro or frat who would threaten to beat someone's behind if they dared disrespect their letters? That is the sin of pride and idolatry. @ToneeTv That's exactly what I thought. These frats are full of pride when I see them. Their attitude did not resonate with my spirit. I went to a step show or some show where they introduce new members, and all I could think of was where was God in any of this? Why are all these people walking with such pride and grandeur of themselves? And why are all these people are cheering this on and congratulating this behavior? I didn't understand it at all.

I think it's ok. I joined my sorority bc of its mission, history, service, expectations (high moral & ethical standard), & the women in the sisterhood. I've never been beat, had to sexual things, or any other negative experience. You talked ab sharing your testimony. I've told ppl how being a member of a BGLO has helped me. That aspect isn't private. I don't have brands. No one is made to get branded though. It's a choice & God also gives us choices in life (freewill).

@PearlfectJourney I also wanted to say that I had been saved 10+ years when I joined my BGLO. Trust me, I was not going to allow myself to get hit or do anything that I know goes against my upbringing, values, &/or morals. I don't get down like that. :) I think it also depends on the person. Anyone can make anything an idol. It's all about how you treat and value that 'thing.' I think Christian sororities are different but could be good. I haven't had much contact with them. So, don't quote me.

With that being said, I did nothing demeaning in joining my organization. I did nothing that would question my walk with GOD. And to answer your question about why it's a secret. It's a secret because everyone does not need to know your business. Greek organizations are businesses. Is Apple, Inc. satanic for not releasing their trade secret to their success? I say this because everything that i do from my career to my personal life I know GOD is the reason that GOD brought it to my life. Sister Neechy, there are so many scriptures that apply. We would see if we only took the time to read them. Romans 1, for instance. I did attend one meeting, but there was something about it that I knew wasn't for me. I wasn't even aware of the deeper meaning until about a month ago through videos like these. First of all I didn't PLEDGE a fraternity I joined one, I never pledge my allegiance to Omega I joined Omega, I pledge my soul to Christ Jesus and it will forever be that till the day that I die, or will I; because believe it or not I don't see death anyway in Christ so...but there are a lot of goods things about Fraternities and Sororities and most people who are in them belong to Christ as well, but always remember before there was any such thing as Fraternity there was Jesus the second Adam!

But Neechy does bring up very cogent points in regards to the cult like nature of Greek letter organizations. As black people I question why we would join a Greek (white) focused organization. BGLO's are cool for what they do. The issue is the claim that BGLO's are based off of christian principles, and that is not so. As far as the issue of some members renouncing their letters and active members defending their org, that is a personal matter been that person and Jesus Christ. Some people have different callings in life. Remember how Moses was called out of his wonderfully worldly and secular life in the house of pharoah into truely worshipping God?

Students on campuses need to hear this information.....and if you don't think the Greek organizations are satanic check your oaths u take and read the bibe. I don't have a issue, its a personal thing and if you are really waking in the body of christ then it shouldn't matter. There are things that are for certain people and certain thing that aren't. Just like the Marine Corps, we say not everyone can be a Marine, beig Greek is not for everyone. You are going to have bad apples along with the good. I don't think God is going to crush you for being in a fraternity or sorority. He is going to look at your heart, and if you follow him.

I just want to say that I joined DELTA in 07, I loved what it stood for, the unity, the bond, and much more. I did underground pledging, wanted to do things the real way. I later on graduated and left to be with family. Got saved and started to read the Bible and start my journey of righteousness not thinking anything of Delta. I still loved it and cherished it. Furthermore, branding is a choice -in most cases ..in cases which it is not, that is indicative of the problem i mentioned earlier about individual actions and not being uniform and things not being condoned by the orgs or by law. As for the networking, it may help on occasion, but it's more about the effort you put in. someone may have a general idea of the type of person u may be, what principles you value b/c of ur membership, but you are certainly NOT handed a job or given just anything.

"I liken it to our relationship to Christ" I think that's part of the issue. these orgs were never meant to be taken in that manner. but from the outside looking in its easy to misconstrue any act. The 'pledging' you described isnt universal or endorsed by the orgs - those are actions & decisions of the individuals. I think people give frats/sorors. too much credit for being uniform - which they arent. The secrecy is due to both legal (the main reason) and maintaining the integrity of the org.

Sorority and fraternities are not of Christ simply because of the nature in which they were founded (occultism) and most importantly, the things that are done within them. There are FARRRRRRRR MORE IMPORTANT things that we as a people -yeah I'm black, not part of NHPC- that we need to focus on instead of trivial things. In my honest opinion....it's something that you choose to do. I'm sure people will say Christ...well if that's the case, I didn't know Christ said to keep an exclusive group for only those who luv me, because not everyone can join that Sorority or Frat, much like any other. @OohLaLaHolly I don't know if you ever joined one, but GPA is not the only requirement that gets you in a frat/sorority..I know NOT mine..if that's the case, then I wouldn't be in it, so to say that is false and incorrect!! It's true that scholarship is a requirement, but you have to be well rounded with other things besides a point avg. I can't speak for others except mine, and I know scholarship just isn't it! It takes quite a bit more.

@Sulls2Cold saw this old comment...figured i'd respond anyway. each one is different but the only thing i'll say regarding exclusivity is this: at some churches, one has to participate in the membership orientation class before becoming a member. basically a few weeks of sunday school classes. non-members can't vote on official church business or attend business meetings. with christian sororities/frats that are similar i c no problem as long as there is NO pledging/secrecy/oaths.

As far as the "brand" - whats the difference between brands and tattoos, scars, marktings etc. it is a representation of whatever the person wants. If I get a tat of an Angel does that make it so?...If i get a brand, does it means that I have now idolized a man made org and it now owns me...NO!!! As far as privacy,here's why....If i have a job at a company and we have trade secrets and you work for a competitor's company, "Why would i ever divulge trade secrets to an outsider?"

This is what I'd like to say about joining fraternities or sororities.
I am apart of a frat. I joined one to develop myself, grow as a person and increase my network. Never was I beat, or put under a slave mentality - I just find it interesting that folks fall on fraternities & sororities and compare them to GOD. Last time I checked, it was and is designed to be an organization, just like anything else. It just baffles me how people (not just you) who compares God to a man-made thing. *Continue

Well I am apart of a greek letter org and it's not part of the nphc but it's standards is under the nmgc and in the fact I am muslim so on that level I couldn't join the divine 9 orgs because of my religion. I have this to say not all orgs give beatings or follow pagan beliefs so please don't put all the org's in the same category !

Everybody talking about learn culture and roots, but yall dont wanna talk about gettin "pledged" and how godly that was (or wasnt). And if you didnt, you were considered "paper" and less of a member. If you gonna keep it real, keep it real all around. I pledged before I was saved, and whats past is done, but I can see where a whole lot was wrong.

I am a christian who happens to be a member of a Greek Letter Organization as well. I joined my fraternity for many reasons. One was because I wanted an outlet to be active in my campus while in college and continue once I graduate. There are a multitude of other reasons. Strolling, Stepping, and partying were not reasons for joining. To gain membership into my frat did involve a process but nothing was of a sexual nature, there was nothing degrading.

I am a member of a Greek lettered organization, and I am a Christian. I personally believe that anything that you join, whether it's a Greek organization, social clubs, honor societies, anything can hinder your relationship with God if you allow it to do so. I was saved when I joined my sorority, and I still love God and learning to love Him more everyday. Yes, they are very secretive, but so are a lot of other organizations.

Its not just the branding and the other material stuff, its the whole greek god/goddesses thing that I have a problem. If it were just a bout being in a "club" with no mention of greek gods/goddesses, then that would be different. But I agree with 'Neechy'-when you have CHRIST, HE is allllll that you need. Connections for jobs? That job that you are desperately seeking, but having a hard time getting might be because GOD has something else in store for you like ur own business. Think about it.

Maybe you should talk to some people who are members of these different organization who are saved and interview them and get their point of view. Our organizations were founded to help men and women of color. We promote education, service, brotherhood and sisterhood as well as uplift. If you did not know that in most of organization a lot of our members are Pastors, Chaplains and men and women of the cloth. I think you need to do more research on why we chose to become Greek! I have been a member of my frat for 10 years and I don't have a brand or tattoo or anything like that. I enjoy being in my org. In my organization Prayer is a big part of it Any and everything we do starts and ends with Prayer. So for you to say that we are bad or evil or back sliding is wrong.

I think this is a great question and discussion. I honestly feel that if you keep God as your Lord and savior,nothing can stand in your way; false gods, non-greek activity, sex, masturbation, adultery, sins in general.
Just because I joined a fraternity, I won't let it distract me from what God has planned in my life. No False God or anything that was mention in the discussion before me, will stop me from doing what God has planned for me to do. I stay true to myself and true to God!

If you truly are a Christian, then you owe it to yourself and others to be absolutely clear and absolutely sure about what you're saying. It's important to be honest and fair. I have been in my org many years now and I have NEVER heard of anyone doing sexual acts. That's just CRAZY and disgusting!

The organizations TRULY promote goodness and doing good deeds but unfortunately INDIVIDUALS are not all good even though they may claim to be prior to being invited to join. If you do, then you have a serious problem and need to assess your priorities in life. Don't blame the organizations! People need to own up to their choices and put the blame where it belongs, on themselves. My experience in my org has been great but I understand that there are people who have had bad ones. Im not apart of a greek orginization, but I am considering joining one. I do find this topic interesting and I try to do as much research as I can. Now, I know many many christian women and men who are apart of these orginizations and I feel like there is a BIG difference between worshipping and admiring these orginizations. okay so I have a lot to say about this one. First I am a believer. I love God. I have a brother who pledged to the little brother club under a well known fraternity. I was upset when he joined I felt it to be wrong. He was only in the 5th grade and impressionable. The bible states "come out from amongst them and be ye seperate." So why is it that you'd join something that doesnt fully embrace Christianity? Several activities are contradictory to Christ like behavior. Therefore it is wrong.
